Starting out I tried import vegtan from different places. Usually $5.00 to $6.00 a square foot knowing I would probably screw it up. For me it was a good way to start. Got some Hermann Oak and for stamping it was a true revelation. Deep and crisp impressions every time. Only problem is double the price. If cost is not important, start with Hermann Oak.
I do a bit of crafting....no a lot. This was good for me and explained some of the "grey areas" that have been on my mind. Mostly I've done belts, holsters, and small projects like change purses and keepsake boxes. I need to expand my efforts. Good info for us. Thank you!

Would you ever buy a craftsman grade double shoulder? I make knife sheaths primarily, so I don’t need much but I’m worried that there might be too many blemishes or something
That could work out great for you. Especially being able to hide smaller blemishes on the back side of the sheath. You could always order one in and return it if it’s not clean enough for what you’re building.
