What's your favourite Neural DSP plugin? Let me know in the comments below! Thank you Xander Raymond Charles for making this Tier List and inspiring me to make this video 🙌 Check out my personal Neural DSP Presets, TABs, Merch and more here: keyanhoushmand.sellfy.store/
It’d probably cut into their sales of the ones which do have that functionality tho. Greedy ass tactic, and I fucking I hate It tho. A pitch shifter would make that plugin 1000x better
@@devendasmusic I wouldn’t call it greedy, it’s just business. I mean it’s not like you can also have the analog effects. If we’re to follow the logic of your comment then neural dsp should make one universal plugin and raise the price by 5 times as much.
Idk man, I think if they give the opportunity to interchange pedals, amp, cab and stuff between plugins it will be the perfect combo and but till then... Sorry but I prefer AmpHub over any of those plugins
13:21 You are, Neural actually has tons of Marshall tones: - Nolly's amp 2 is THE classic 2203 JCM800 - Morello's is a different JCM800 (2210) - Henson's amp 3 is a Marshall - Bea's amp 2, the first Kraken channel, is modelled after a JCM900 - Nameless is a modded Plexi and Cali is also a modded Marshall. If you want to include it, Plini's amp 2, a Friedman BE100, is also essentially a modded Marshall.
@@Wizzerman95 I don't know them all, but I know a few of the real amps behind the archetypes. For example the Nolly amps are: - Bogner Shiva - Marshall 2203 JCM800 (with added bright switch) - Peavey 5150 Blockletter - Victory V30 Countess ("modded beyond recognition of the original circuit") Plini's were a Dumble, Friedman BE100 and a blend between a Friedman HBE and a 5150 Would be interesting if they labeled their "inspiration" on the website like they did for the QC models
I own the Plini, Nolly & Gojira and absolutely love them. I agree that the Plini one is just so damn inspiring. I just dial in a cab-less clean tone or a thick lead with tons of delay/reverb and could just play for hours. The Nolly one just has the Rhythm tone I always craved for and I've never used anything else for that ever since I bought it. The Gojira is just great for some more experimental stuff. I love creating freaky octaved leads or weird "synth"-esque stuff with it
They need to stop releasing new plugins and provide updates to the ones they’ve already released. The lack of any standardization of features and effects across the lineup is kind of ridiculous. They just move on to sell something new. The lack of ongoing support and enhancements for their plugins is disappointing.
I'm glad you moved up Gojira. I bought the Cali and the NTS earlier on, but God damn does the Gojira absolutely slay. Not to mention you get THREE amps and cabs AND a ton of effects AND the ability to pitch shift with the whammy pedal . It has everything I'd ever need and I honestly haven't even touched the Cali and NTS since I bought the Gojira. Definitely S tier for me, and I have no problem getting great tones when playing in drop A, G, or F. Gojira absolutely kills it!
For heavy rhythm tones the Omega is by far the best, even Misha agrees cause that’s what he uses when demoing and doing final tracking for Periphery, then he reamps with other stuff
It sounds absolutely amazing, indeed. I only own one Neural plugin, which turned out to be Gojira because it’s way more versatile, but for rhythm alone I would have gone for Omega. Next one for sure!
Hi Keyan! I just wanted to extend my sincere gratitude to you for putting this specific video out brother. I’ve commented on your channel before but I’ve been putting together my own home studio now over the past several months and it’s something that’s been a daunting task for me. I’ve always been the guy who could play guitar well but knew zero about gear much less recording music on my own. I’m a husband, a father of 4 children, and for a few years I had lost my passion for playing guitar and quite frankly it was a real cause of depression for me. It’s been your channel amongst a few others that have really helped me realize my goal of getting a home studio started and re-lit that fire for playing my guitar again. So THANK YOU Keyan! I’ve consulted your channel primarily for everything regarding audio interfaces, studio monitors, using the quad cortex, and now specifically concerning which neural DSP plugin(s) I want to invest in. I will continue to refer to your channel for everything related to guitar/gear/playing you name it. Don’t let any of the haters make you ever feel like your opinion doesn’t matter or that you aren’t qualified to speak on these subjects because you ARE. Hey I’m a 49 year old dude so I’m probably twice your age but I have no reservations whatsoever in taking advice from you Keyan. Again, thank you for your channel and all the hard work you put into delivering quality content my friend. After watching this video and researching the plugins for months now, I think I’ve settled on the Plini being my first one to purchase. 😊 🤘🏼
NTS and Gojira were my first 2 purchases from NDSP, and later on I bought Nolly, the SLO-100, Granophyre, Cali, and most recently, Plini. I've demoed the other plugins but found that most of them weren't really for me (though I am very interested in the Tom Morello plugin). Ranking the plugins I own from most to least favorite, it would go something like this 1. Archetype: Nolly - probably the one I've used the most. I don't really use the clean or lead amps that often on it, but the crunch tones are great for more rock-style tones, and the 5150 is a 5150. I also really like the cabs on this one, though I do usually just use external IRs or plugins anyways (mainly the GGD Studio Cabs). 2. Granophyre - it's close with the Nolly plugin for me, but Nolly edges it out ever so slightly. I really love the harsh growling kind of tone that comes from the Granophyre. It especially pairs well with the GGD Studio Cabs plugins and you can really get some nasty sounding tones from it. 3. Archetype: Gojira - this one's a bit weird for me. I really love the main amp tones and as I mentioned before, it is one of the first NDSP plugins I owned. More than anything though, I primarily use this for the effects, namely the whammy and the octaver and usually put that in front of a different amp. I don't really like the crunch amp that much, and the clean amp is a bit too breakup-heavy for my tastes. 4. Archetype: Plini - in a way, this one's sort of the inverse of the Gojira for me. I primarily use this for cleans, and I think the heavy amp sounds pretty different from some of the other plugins. Oddly enough, I've found myself using it mainly for 2000s nu-metal kinds of tones, which sounds weird but it just works. Haven't messed around with the crunch tones much, but the clean tones are the main selling point for me. Pretty much the perfect plugin for the djent ambient cleans. 5. Fortin Cali - this is a bit of a mixed bag for me. I think when dialed in right, it's great for more of that "classic djent" style tone that's super jangly and bass heavy. At the same time, I've found this amp is very difficult to dial in compared to the other plugins, and it takes a while for me to get something I'm satisfied with. But for the Meshuggah kind of sound it works pretty well for me (I know the Nameless obviously does that, but I didn't like the Nameless when I demoed it personally). I don't like the crunch settings, but the cleans are pretty nice. 6. Fortin NTS - this was the first NDSP plugin I owned, and at the time was the only one that I really liked the sound of. I still do like using this from time to time, but it is also a little weird to dial in much like the Cali. The main reason why I don't come back to this plugin as much is because for whatever reason, it gives me a lot of performance issues. No other plugin does this, so I'm convinced that it's gotta be this plugin in particular. 7. Soldano SLO-100 - this is probably the plugin I've used the least. Definitely sounds good and works for the Soldano sound as you would hope for, but for my style I don't think it's quite right for me. Not the biggest fan of the cleans, though I have found interesting tones when cranking the clean channel with the crunch switch enabled. But overall, not really for me personally. The high gain is a bit too bassy for me.
Mate I really enjoy how informative your vids are, even though we all really play different types of metal/music, we can really get something out of what you deliver. Much respect
I just made my first 2 gigs this weekend playing through Archetype Gojira (with presets change automation) direct to poweramp and cab....so easy to setup, sounded awesome and i got a bunch of great comments on my tone! I love this plugin!
@@LemonLime36 I use 3 presets (rythm, lead and clean) so i have 3 instences of the plugin on one track and i use the bypass envelope to chose wich preset is active at the right time (we play to the click).
While the Otto II II lived on my guitar bus for a long time, lately I've come back to Granophyre. Such a great plugin. I 100% agree with Nameless and Plini in S tier, those are just iconic.
I'm personally a massive fan of the sound of the granophyre, I've been using that sim for a long time now, I own a lot of the neural dsp plugins and it is still my go to for any high gain tone. Plini Rabea and Petrucci all three have really amazing lead sounds, Abasi has super unique cleans and very interesting and different (albeit niche) rhythm tones. I use all of them in my workflow for different things
Archtype Nolly is so versatile with tone combinations and the basic effects, had it for 2 years now and still in love with it, weather I'm recording or just plugging in and playing
I thought its as the most sassy, no transpose, mediocre clean ambient tones, mostly garbage you need to shut off when actually mixing guitars yet the amp tones alone aren't that great, the Petrucci offers something better in that area, then better then Petrucci is Rabea and Boogie..in the end the Boogie is the most versatile sim because it has the ability to get the tones of almost 80% if the Neural DSP sims and features like transpose etc., the rest like Fortin cali-nameless have the core tones you expect for a real mix with real bus and post effects on the console before a real master..
Dude I literally only use nolly's presets on all the record I do with my clients lol. blood eagle and heavy rock rythm all the time. My clients are super satisfied pretty much all the time 😀
That Pink amp from Henson was actually the first modeled after Marshall amp as said by Tim himself in one interview with Rick Beato and it's also JCM 800
Basically I agree with you. Nameless & Plini are my favorite. Omega has less feature but its sound is awesome than other neural's heavy ampsims, I think.
recording/mixing i do find Gojira the most versatile plugin for noodling alone i would say Nolly along with nameless they can give you some incredible chugging sound especially for Drop C/B and for cleans/leads for me is Petrucci
There's a lot of great insight in this tiering. Especially coming from a guitarist who is really familiar with the type of tones than Abasi, Rabea, Gojira etc.. are intended to serve. For me, I'm less of a high-gain, more quiet-loud, drone, noise, ambient. So I have Nolly for the gainier side, and that does me fine, alongside my physical amp for that, an Orange Rocker 30. My favourites are the Morgan Suite and the Toneking Imperial. I've tried Cory Wong, and liked it for the clean tones. Shout out to the clean tones from STL Tonality Wes Borland 'Borland' JC120 sim too. But, apart from Morgan / Toneking, I'd probably like to get Mateus Asato next. Unless they get Mk.gee on board, which would be awesome.
im not a metal head (actually sick of distortion championships🙄)..prefer classic reality, harmonic clarity ...Soldano, Tone King, Archetipe Matheus Asato...👍🏽
I think the Cory Wong is really underestimated in how good it is for doing anything with DI before hitting an amp or when using an DI, also great for bass too in that regard.
Great list of plugins and very clear video, But unfortunately it's like looking for swimming trunks in a catalog without having a pool nearby to test them. The whole thing would have been cool with sound examples. Especially when it comes to "the best plugin"... Thanks anyway for the input
I have many Neural Dsp plugins but the ones that really made me jump on my seat are Gojira and Plini! They have an incredible quality and are the two plugins that push me to experiment and always do something new or weird! I just picked up my Strandberg Sarah Longfield and installed the Juggernauts on it and can't wait to see how it sounds with these plugins! Great video!
Help me out chat Im looking to get a plugin and im looking at plini x, nolly x, mateus asato, gojira x im inspired by plini, periphery, intervals(older stuff), allan holdsworth, animals as leaders i would like to narrow down to 2 to trial so pls help me out
Your ranking its just your subjectiv opinion so whats the point??? Are you some more important human being? Who do you actually make your videos for???
so just wondering cut I'm thinking of getting a quad cortex, can these plug ins/sounds be loaded to a QC? and be used on the unit itself? or do you build presets on PC then load them to the unit? or is this just for DAW's? computer practice?
I own Plini, Nolly and Gojira (only bought it because of the pitch shifter pedal back in time), and tried all the other ones. For me Plini covers everything in clean, crunch and tight tones, and Nolly in djenty and higher gain tones. The newer plugins just don't bring too much new on the table except of transposing
Gojira is king when it comes to high gain amp tone. Super brutal, it's an evh and not the original peavy 5150, to me it sounds more tight and modern with a very pleasing mid range. I do agree that for the ultra low tuned stuff someone would rather have a kore shrilling kind of tone, personally I mostly play fast metal, and never play anything lower than A# so Gojira is perfect for me. The cleans and crunch tones there are great aswell. For inspiration, rabea is mindblowing to me, the synths and tones there really make explore the instrument, I love it for leads too.l, plus has all the latest features. Those would be my first two recommendations for anyone looking to get into ndsp plugins:)
I just tested the new Pliny updates... and it´s killer! I Used to use Bias FX (bu it´s Really hard to get good tones from it... idk...) and was choosing a Neural DSP plugin to use. And it was all about Plini or Petrucci. But the tone from Plini are amazingly good.
Cali and Plini are my go-to plug-ins. I have most of the Neural DSP plug-ins. And I can say that the only one I’ll never buy is Cory Wong. Petrucci’s got the Wah covered. And even the latest : Morgan which I’ve enjoyed , didn’t compare when A/B ing against Plini. The Tone King which I got but rarely use has a very nice Reverb and the Tremolo. That Reverb I’ve used in my signal chain for Jeff Buckley Clean Telecaster tone. With everything else from the Tone King bypassed. Two plug-ins I dig solely for savage Rhythm tones : Omega and NTS but that’s it.
I don't agree with Rabea being a B tier. It's one of the most versatile NDSP plugins along with Gojira and Nolly. But in terms of features it beats both of them. Definitely an S-tier release. and I don't even listen to the guy's bands, he just nailed the plugin because he has a great taste in tones
It boggles my mind that Neural hasn't updated all the plugins to have the Transpose and Doubler features. Like I understand it can take time to update the older plugins to have the newer ATI algorithm or whatever it is, but the Transpose and Doubler features would be so useful on the older plugins. I know I'm personally passing on certain plugins until they have them.
I might say that you can achieve these effects in a DAW and hear this in realtime with minimal latency. Just a thought as I am an amateur and not sure if this "holds up" but it works for me! I have several VST doublers such as Wider (which is free and sounds good to me), orone from a vendor called Nembrini. I also have some stuff from Plugin Alliance which sounds awesome - I have some amp sims from them as well - I wonder how others would find them. I have the Diezel Herbert and the Engl Savage 120. I got both of these on sales and they seem to hold up to Neural plugins at least on the basic sounds. Neural has better features for sure and more effects that come with the plugin.
Tom Morello is far from being the first marshall in NDSP line-up. Even if we ignore that Fortins are modded marshalls, we have a second amp in Nolly, third amp in Henson and second amp in Rabea which are all marshalls
Gojira is forever the GOAT for me. Just straight STANK face with even just the default preset it opens with, let alone once you dial it in for whatever guitar is in use at that time.
All these new models and Archetypes and I swear, I still boot up Nameless and get a big shit eating grin whenever I chug on it. It sounds EVIL. It just doesn't have the quality of life features, but I hope those come soon because it is my endgame plugin for extreme high gain situations.
The NTS plugin is very underrated. I love the way it sounds. Yea, it’s just metal and no reverb, but it has a lot of flexibility. Hopefully they update it someday. Also, I know people like to shit on the SLO100 plugin, but I love how amp-like it feels.
I think Gojira should have been in the S tier personally. Some of the best high gain, crunch and actually extremely beautiful and usable cleans if you lower the input level a bit.
"outdated" =/= nDSP's unwillingness to update legacy products with drop in features such as transpose etc. It's easier to have this perspective when you get these for free, however it's pretty poor treatment of the paying customers ultimately responsible for their profits.
Gojira is their best, fortin cali after that but neither of these have the transpose, gojira has a pitch whammy you can transpose with but you need to create presets for this to save time. Then you have mesa boogie…all the rest (especially the nameless) offer something but as a recording performing sim i mentioned what i see worked for most ppl.,
everyone has their taste for me they are all excellent but at the level we are with so many plugins on the market "Everyone should have the pitchshifter or transpose included" because in my case I no longer spend money on plugins that do not offer me that function integrated. Hellyeah…..!!!! 🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾
I have no interest in the Archetype versions. The Nameless, Granophyre and SLO are far and away my favorites. I wish Neural would make the effects purchasable so you could use them with any any of the amp plugins. A usb style pedal switcher to turn the effects on and off easily would be great and that connects to my computer via Bluetooth.
I wish that have more ir processing in there plugins. Its just blending no lo/high pass filters, parametric eq and no mic angle They should take note from STL Tone hub can section.
Got to say - other than the Nolly plugin I largely agree with your list. I think to put plugins that are not in your common genre of music ln low rankings may not be what you are really trying to represent. How about these tier lists get a modification - a exclusion list of sorts where you can say "... this plugin is really awesome, however not something that fits in my rotation therefore I am placing it outside in this exclusion box..." instead of knocking it down to "D" tier as it is entirely possible that one of those could be "A" tier at what they do. Just a thought. It's not that I am trying to be fair as much as trying to be accurate. I personally have enjoyed the Plini the most as well by the way. You are right when you say when you open up Plini the presets kind of impress you so much that you just smile and start noodling... So with limited monies I am kind of struggling as the Archetype Petrucci was so good to me but I am raised on Dream Theater music - the first time I heard them well, there was almost nothing like it and it was instant classic music to me. Bur truth be told the music I love the most is the music that begins I really duno exactly but somewhere around 2010 - I had never heard of "djent" and had stopped playing guitar for years because I grew truly tired of the 80-90's music, add in the 70's as well... It all was just so tired, repetitive, and worn out and then I hear "soil" by Counterparts and my mind was blown! So I became a bit more interested and along comes... Periphery. Case closed! Then a ton of new bands came into my rotation and all of this music had one thing in common - it was way different than the old Chorus Verse Chorus Verse stuff, it was layered, it was complex, it was heavy in a way, it was truly musical... Many of the bands I grew to love were introduced to me via a mix of videos that some RU-vidrs had put together. I still listen to the very first "mix" video today, that has songs that are among the most special to me from bands such as Volumes, Periphery, Walking Across Jupiter, Substructure (hell yea Substructure!!!), I built the sky, Born of Osiris with "An Ascent" one of my favorite songs still to this day and a bunch more. Anyway to bring this home what I came to RU-vid for originally was for guitar lessons and of all people I found Stevie T! Say what you want about him but back then he was kind of funny and was focused on music - now of course you couldn't really learn anything from Stevie T (I thought his video on sweep picking was going to be legit... it was a little funny though!) But what I did get from him which is priceless is he introduced me to "D D D DJENT" music, the rest is history. In just a few clicks I went from thinking that there would never again be a good band or song to "wholy shit, this djent/prog rock is better than amazing!!!" And that is how I came across your channel - looking for help on how to play, how to achieve tone, etc... So cheers to what you do and contrat's again on your success! And if you read all of this - thanks!
Interesting comparison, agree a lot, but I think Archetype Gojira should be higher for sure *Edit: I wrote this before you make changes and put that one in A, glad about that jajajj
Great vid - I've been bugging Neural to update the Nolly for a long time.... really needs and deserves all the new features. Please Neural DSP, for the love of God man! It seems like such a no brainer to me?...the cash they would rake in? I just don't get it- (Someone from Neural told me they were working on it already...but that was like a year or so ago? lol)
great video Keyan. I used to think the morello was the first Marshall type amp from Neural...but i think the Henson suite pink amp is also based off a Marshall. Not sure, but I heard/read it somewhere cant recall....that being said, that pink amp is no good for modern metal 😅😅
I own more of these plugins than I need.. it's a sickness.. But I actually like the IIC+ suite. I spend quite a bit of time (way too much time it was kind of fun) dialing it in last night then rolling through way too many IRs... I got it dialed in and using two OTTO IRs panned. It sounds crushing and super angry. Plus, to buy an actual Mark IIC+ head is like what.. $10K? Neural putting this plugin out for peanuts compared to actually buying one is a miracle. It's almost making me want to buy a Mark VII I was having so much fun with it.
the amp that comes with rabeas is the most real feeling imo, it doesnt do modern metal great do to the low end issues and fuzz unless ur trying to do single coil weirdness or can make up for the lack of low end clarity somehow. But there is something magical about the response to articulation that you get with the lead tones and a fresh set of strings. It bridged the SMALL gap still left on sims vs real so im pumped for the next one (fingers crossed its like Mark Holcomb or something stupid modern and focused on the same kinda thing rabea does) But yeah if you love articulation and really putting feel into leads its miles ahead.
I chose the Petrucci when buying a Neural DSP after trying a bunch out. The petrucci is just so well rounded, like Keyan said tho, the amps are not the best.
it's nice to see the Soldano get some love. I had trouble getting a tone I really loved with my new LTD that has active fishmans in it, and the tone i got out of the Soldano plugin fucking rip
