Thank you for the nice video. I lived for a year in Sofia and loved it, even though the winter was brutal for me 😅 Plovdiv has an airport and it actually is the 2nd largest city in Bulgaria. Also, Plovdiv has better weather than both Sofia and Varna. However, the sea in Varna makes it very appealing! I don't like Burgas for the same reason, I don't like touristy places very much, as it tends to be overwhelming and too crowded! The good thing about Plovdiv is that it is very close to the Greek coast by car. Sofia definitely has more things to do but Plovdiv is no too far behind! I am originally from Ruse, much smaller city and completely different feel than Sofia, I really loved my time in Sofia! I think that the next time I go back to Bulgaria will be either in Varna or Plovdiv.

Unless you're really into coastal cities and having the sea next to you, Plovdiv would be the best option for most people outside Sofia. Varna and Burgas are good only in summer. The only thing Plovdiv is severely lacking, compared to Varna and Burgas, is a well-functioning airport, as currently it operates only one commercial flight to London Stansted. There are occasional charters as well, but besides that, you'll have to go to Sofia if you want to fly somewhere. Nonetheless, Plovdiv is one of a kind city in Bulgaria. It has a rich historical and cultural background and a beautiful scenery. It probably also has the prettiest city centre of all major cities in Bulgaria and is economically the 2nd most important city after Sofia, so if you're well-qualified, you'll be able to find a decent job. No city in Bulgaria is perfect though, so everybody should decide what's most important for them. If you're used to and like living in a big city, Sofia is the best place. The best work opportunities are also there.

@techhousegroover9907
@techhousegroover9907 3 года назад
@@MichaelRosmer because I lived 3 years in Varna and I can make this comparison .. in Burgas the urban infrastructure is much better, the mayor is the best, it is close to Sunny Beach, Nessebar ... the biggest summer tourism in Bulgaria is in the Burgas region , you have a highway on which you are in Sofia for 3 hours. everything that is in Varna is in Burgas as well, regardless of the fact that the city is a bit smaller ... if you are looking for a big city, then your choice should be only Sofia. In Varna you have a little more traffic than Burgas and the possibilities are absolutely identical.

@MichaelRosmer
@MichaelRosmer 3 года назад
Generally I'm not too bullish on the Bulgarian rental market right now. The cap rates you typically get are ok but not great. You can obviously shop for deals like anywhere else and like a bunch of these markets I think there's opportunities for decent upside by buying older properties and renovating to make them nice and modern. The market went up quite a bit a couple years ago and since markets operate in cycles that to me is always an indicator not to buy. I try to look for places that are just starting to go up or have dropped recently. One good thing is landlord tenant rules are decent. The demographics in Bulgaria also aren't great so you want to buy strategically where people are likely to move. So I rank it as sort of middle of the road for property investing right now.

I visited Sofia in 2019 and I loved it! I felt very safe walking in South Park and enjoyed Paradise Mall which had a very nice gym too. What I liked most of Sofia was seeing the mountain and the trees. Sure it's not the most beautiful city built in Europe but nature impresses me much more than man made stuff. Why I didn't stay ? I looked at some rental apartments in Vitosha and Loznets they were lovely in comparison to what is available in Spain and Malta but I noticed security was a big issue too? Coming from South Africa I just didn't want to live anywhere again that this is an issue. Is there a crime problem in Sofia? As I noticed there also seem to be alot of gated communities in Sofia especially in Vitosha area like in South Africa.

I would like to know which airport is nearest to deep southern Bulgaria (near to the Greek and Turkish border)?
@BrayanA
@BrayanA 2 года назад
Burgas airport is closest to the Turkish border (60 km) and you can be in Istanbul in 4.5hr (342 km). It is also close to the Greek border (~180 km by car), but unfortunately to the most remote part of Greece (North-East). Plovdiv airport is closest to the Greek border, but you have something like 3-4 flight a day only (London, Dortmund, Belfast, Dublin, Memmingen, Antalia). Sofia is best airport for visiting Greece as it has a lot of connections and you can be at the border in 2h (194 km) and in Thessaloniki in 4h (300 km). It is also not that far from the Turkish boarder - 2.5hr (282 km) and you can be in Istanbul in 6-7hr (550 km). Just have in mind that there are two periods that you should avoid traveling via this road - every year beginning of the summer and end of the summer hundreds of turkish emigrants from Europe travel via the road Sofia - Istanbul daily and block the border crossing. Instead of crossing for 30-60m it may take you 4-6 hours just to pass the boarder. There is no such problem if you travel via Burgas.
