The best feeling I got from this hobby was when I gifted my older brother his and my grail watch on his 50th bday last year. An omega seamaster aqua terra. It was my first luxury watch. I got it used 8 yrs ago and he told me that it was his grail too. Eventually my taste changed and I was in search of a new grail. So I got it serviced with Omega a couple of months before his birthday. The AD said it might take 4-6 months to get it back so I was bummed about it since they were going to visit us on Christmas (he lived in a different country). 2 weeks before they arrived, the AD called and said it was back from service. My brother couldn't believe that I was gifting him his grail that I purchased as my grail. He thought I was just letting him borrow it. Every now and then he texts me wrist shots of his aqua terra and how proud he is of wearing it.

This is what I love the most about watches. Great stories built around them. Best feeling in my case was when muy father gave me for my birthday his beloved Omega Constellation and Seiko Titanium. True love that had us both in tears. Now they are part of my collection and are going to be my little kid watches when he become a grown man.

I think the size question is kind of like glasses frames, if it looks good on ya, wear it. It comes done to your taste. I tend to go a little smaller with dressy watches and don't mind something relatively larger if it's sporty

I was a big 40x20 person. Then I got a Black Bay Fifty-Eight and fell in love with the 39 size. I also tried the BB54 and found that a little too flat/wide despite its “smaller” size. But I LOVE the Explorer 124270 at 36mm. So I think it just comes down to how the watch looks/wears on your wrist

I've accepted the fact that Rolex 36mm (explorer, datejust) and 36-37mm is absolutely perfect for my wrist. I still enjoy and love wearing my larger watches (Omega SMP 300M, IWC Pilot's Chronograph 41, Tag Heuer Formula 1), but 36 is too perfect. Also Nomos club campus 36 and Grand Seiko SBGW287 wear perfect too. No lug overhang, slim and light. Absolute perfection.

Watch size depends on your size, build, style of dress, several factors. I'm 6'2", linebacker build with a 7 7/8" wrist. I usually dress casual and sporty, and while I have watches of different styles, my main would be dive watches 42-45mm. Anything smaller than 42 just seems too small on me, though I do have a couple dressier watches that are 40mm. 38-39 or smaller is just too small. But, as everyone rightly points out, wear what you like and makes you happy.
@frankv7068
@frankv7068 Месяц назад
I’m exactly the same, 6’3” and really built as well. My sweet spot is 43-45mm, I own both Sea Dwellers 43mm that wear like a Sub on regular people, my Sky Dweller 42mm wears on me like a Datejust would on others and my Omega Deville Prestige 39.9mm is my suit watch. Even my Speedy at 42mm is small on me and I wear it as a dress watch on a leather strap. I own other pieces but I see myself typing my entire collection so I’ma stop! 🤣

Speaking to the first question and your point about not writing off any particular size. When I started collecting I was sitting about 7.75-8” wrist. I didn’t want a watch below 44mm. I lost a fair amount of weight, and now sit around 7-7.25” wrist size. I inherited a couple watches 33-35mm… these were sports/leaning to dress watches. I now LOVE this size. Two of my favourites are a 1960s Cyrpus I inherited that’s around 34mm, and my 34mm Timex Marlin reissue ❤

I get all my button ups from Banana Republic for a little over 10 years now. Probably have around 60 and still wear the ealiest ones. They've not worn out or lost buttons. Their slim fits are perfect on me. 2 of the oldest ones (same shirt fabric/pattern in different colours) have torn around one forearm because I always have the cuff folded up and I guess the tightness ended up getting the best of it. But that's two of the older shirts out of 60+.

Good vid as usual. Spot on about giving the extra watch to people who might like them more than we currently do. As collectors, never mind buyer's remorse, sometimes we just have too many watches, or we simply have max capacity the box can handle and yet another new watch catch our interest. Inventory management is going to become important at some point. I'm a small collector but earlier this year, I've given a Tissot away. I still loved it very much at the time and it's actually the watch that fitted me the best, but I gave it away because it's the only watch that I had no emotional ties with, and it helped in making room for a future purchase (that I still haven't made yet). I gave it to a good friend who kind of wanted a watch but never quite got around to buying one. Didn't want to spend the money. I feel like that was the essence of "finding the watch a good home".

Depends not just on wrist size but also style of watch, type of watch, style preference of the person etc... could get a drssy watch bigger size and it can be casual. Bring on Nico! As much as he's associated with the grey market and luxury watches, he always brings a sense of realism when he talks about luxury watches as aspirational goods rather than necessary financial investments. He's consistently argued against people who think everyone should own a Rolex, or that you should own a watch 10% your annual salary. Like you, he's a big supporter of Casio. I also think where you differ is of great interest. Where you advocate for the watch of the everyman and the value that watch producers provide all over the world, Nico knowledge of the swiss luxury market is as broad as it is deep. I'd love to see where you both agree and disagree. At the end of the day, it means a lot to Nico that both he and his channel are being accepted by both the watch community and watch producers, and I'm sure it'd mean a ton for him to speak to your audience of the average watch consumer.

It depends on the size of your wrist. I have small wrists so the ideal sizes for me is 39-40mm. But sports watch are different, so I start from 40-42mm.

I’ve been wanting a Teddy and Nico Leonard video for like 2 years. Two completely opposite people with the same passion… it would be an interesting collaboration

Depends on the watch. My SLA047 wears like a charm, so does my SJE085. One is 44mm and one is 36mm. I wear both and feel great with either one. My buddy has a sub and a GMT master 2. Both didnt really fit my wrist well due to its overall flatness and lack of case dimension.

I think you should do more content with Kirby Allison. Your watch content would compliment his content.

I share your passion in horology. Perhaps, I missed this but I have seen many watches from your channel. Citizen is a major watchmaker and has many features. Why don’t we hear anything from Citizen?

Because they make too many EcoDrives that kids/wives buy for father's day. Very 'Dad-Watch' brand. They've been shaking things up lately, but they're not changing my perception any time soon.

I've looked at you and Nico as the Pseudo Yin and Yang of the Watch Community. Both are ridiculously knowledgeable about the watch universe. Nico is overtly passionate and over the top; while you are just as passionate about watches , but more (for lack of a better word) refined and almost professorial in your approach. But yes yes YES!!! A collaboration is essential!

Sounds interesting to have Nico and Terry doing something together. While both of them being very, very knowledgeable when it comes to watches, thery are very different personalities as well. So pick some controversial topic, just to make it even more fun for everyone!

Teddy, great video as usual. I'm glad that you nailed this "perfect size" watch topic. I'm actually so annoyed with all these RU-vidrs who keep delivering this idea in pretty much every watch video. I have a 7.5" wrist Dia, which I have always thought it's average size. I feel anything below 40 mm is too small for my wrist (considering all the other factors you mentioned, lug to lug, design, etc). My personal sweet spot in my eyes is 43-44 depending on those variable factors. I have one 42 mm Hamilton that looks bigger than my other 44 mm watches (it almost doesn't have a bezel). However, I do get the point that most people wearing watches nowadays have smaller wrists but also depending on the demographics. In countries like the Netherlands, Sweden and a lot of East European countries, the average wrist-size is around 8". I totally agree with you.... Let everyone enjoy what they like instead of setting standards for watch sizes. After all, Watch-collecting is very much, personal.

Have you ever heard of a Swiss made manual watch called Ceventic? It is made in the 1970s according to some websites. I stumbled upon this watch on a website where people sell used items and I bought it for 25 euros. Guess we'll see if it was a good purchase. 😊

Yes to Nico, if only because you guys seem to have completely opposite vibes and it’d be amusing to see you guys put together a sane video about Grand Seiko and dial patterns.

Wrist size should be a dominant factor in deciding what is a good case size. How it wears on the wrist outweighs all the other considerations, thus it's a bit pointless to try to identify the 'perfect' size independent of that.

Case diameter depends in the main on the size of the wrist. I have a 7.5 in wrist and anything less than 41mm looks ridiculously small
