@XxAceJusterxX if you want to know, the diaphragm works by the top of it going down a bit and the sides of it going upwards. A misconception is that the top of it does all the work, but its actually the other way around (kinda)

I thought I was having a heart-attack and felt like I was breathing through a straw for months. Family-doctor told me it was stress/anxiety related; but I knew it was physical. A chiropractor then felt my chest and abdomen and said, "Your diaphragm is stuck/spasmed - it's not moving properly". I have to see him regularly. It was so validating to have someone tell me my breathing was indeed physical, and not a symptom of stress or anxiety. My diaphragm seems to get stuck/spasm/stop working properly quite often now, and I don't know why. Thank God I have found a chiropractor who listens, investigates, and helps! He also offers exercises to do. If I was left with my family-doctor, I'd be on anti-depressants, still unable to breathe properly, and who knows - possibly on a downward spiral to becoming an invalid! If anyone knows what could be causing my diaphragm to get stuck/spasm/not work properly, I'd be very grateful. All signs point to stress and anxiety - but it is just too physical and in-the-body to be mental.
@laieli
@laieli Год назад
I'm happy you found a doctor who listens to you - it is so rare :) What could be causing your spasms ? Stress. Physical & Emotional; ✦Physical: diabetes test, radiculopathy tests, a sleep study. Research how to give yourself trigger point massages to release the tightened muscles in neck, chest,& stomach. ✦Emotional ? A therapist who you really connect with. You were so happy to find a doctor who understood the problem with your body & it would be just as wonderful to find a doctor who validates & helps heal your mind in the same manner - Even sharing the frustration of doctors not listening to you & the elation of finding one who validated you is cathartic. This is what a therapist is for. ❤︎ I have my own diaphragmatic lockups /spasms & anxiety from physical & mental causes so I can share what I learned with you: Mental & physical are connected. Physical/emotional stress leads to breathing differently; shallowly, with a hunched back, a tightened/elevated diaphragm & an overworked/contorted vagus nerve. This is how we breathe when our sympathetic nervous system is triggered by stress. We barely notice it until it builds up into these physical symptoms that we cannot ignore. These techniques relax the diaphragm - it's a cognitive approach to teach yourself how to breathe correctly so the sympathetic nervous system responds differently when encountering physical/emotional stress. ✦Vagus nerve massage (especially the sternocleidomastoid muscle massage) & diaphragmatic breathing has helped me to relax those muscles & re teach the autonomic nervous system to breathe more efficiently. I do these: Morning when I wake, Noon before eating, Evening right before bed. ✦Do you have gut issues ? Eating healthier meals (balance sugar / more protein, veggies, less carbs - Keto -ish diet.). Chew thoroughly but slowly (20+ mins to eat each meal). We breathe differently when experiencing any emotion, even hunger, & our response to that emotion/stress teaches our body how to react in the future. Eating quickly stresses our breathing & the digestive system. Eating slower, vagus nerve massage & diaphragmatic breathing teach the muscles & brain to create a calmer baseline. ✦How is your sleep? How you sleep affects your breathing - look into a sleep study to see if you need a c-pap or oxygen. If you are not breathing correctly/receiving oxygen efficiently the hyperventilation/stressed breathing is triggered, even if at low levels, while asleep. This teaches the muscles to continue to breathe that way autonomically when we wake. Your body, and mind (because it's a part of the body) ✦Helpful Herbs: Relaxants: Chamomile; Passionflower; Valerian Root; L Theanine; GABA; Ashwaghanda ~ ✧ Change your breath change your life ✧₊⊹

Not sure this helps but if can't breathe on your back then you have Phrenic Nerve Neuropathy. Eating or drinking anything and then physical activity right after will also cause breathing issues. Hope that helps. Good luck.

There are options which certainly should be considered before merely surgery or medication . Chronic tension in the pelvis can cause the diaphragm and other breathing muscles to be unable to do their job. Lifelong shallow chest breathing habits can leave the rest of the breathing apparatus weakened. Medication and surgery are presented here as the only choices, when they are arguably the worst choices.
@raigervasi2070
@raigervasi2070 5 лет назад
I agree. Constipation can also severely prevent the diaphragm from functioning properly and god knows we have a constipation issue these days, you can just imagine the pressure those gigantic guts(created by hyper colonic tension) can put on the diaphragm.

@@raigervasi2070 I have spent time researching martial art philosophy and there is an extreme emphasis on breathing. And a focus on what they call the dantien, I believe, aka the diaphragm. It is basically the key to meditation. The disturbances it faces greatly diminish the quality of life for so many people. Meanwhile, if healthy, greatly reduces many medical issues that people face and think they need all this medication etc. Sad how so much ancient knowledge and wisdom is lost in our so called era of information.

Really? Like what? I have an inability to breathe from my diaphragm unless I'm doing diaphragmatic exercises. The second I stop doing them I go back to struggling to breathe with my chest. My oxygenation is normal. I've been to countless appointments. I even went to a psychiatrist and therapist and began taking anxiety meds. It wasnt anxiety. I've been too short of breath to do anything but lie on the floor 99% of the time for months. It's misery.

Many years ago I owned an old farm property. The land was rented out to a farmer and one day I was going to the barn on the property to do some foundation work and I noticed the farmer was preparing to apply ammonia to the field of corn. His applicator was parked behind the barn with its large ammonia tank. While working in the barn I suddenly heard a loud sound of pressurized gas escaping. This went on for almost a minute before stopping. I was kneeling down working when I suddenly got first a faint whiff of ammonia, then quickly an overpowering smell of it, and then no smell of it at all, all within 5 seconds or so. But I quickly noticed I couldn't breathe. I ran out of the barn and still couldn't inhale. Nothing else seemed wrong. I couldn't smell ammonia any more and my eyes weren't burning, I just could not inhale. I ran about 100 feet to the back of the house and still could not draw in a breath. However, when I opened the storm door and stepped into the tiny enclosed porch between that and the door into the house, I could finally draw in a breath of air. I had no further problems after that point. My question is, since I assume I was in a HUGE bubble of ammonia gas all the way from the barn to the house, WHY couldn't I draw in a breath? Was this a physics issue, due to the lower density of ammonia gas? OR was this a medical issue where my nervous system was preventing me from drawing in a dangerous gas? What the sensation most reminded me of is when I'd previously had the "wind knocked out of me" as a kid. I just couldnt' DRAW IN a breath. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi, so I got this weird sting in my chest. Often times it comes from the diaphragm location. Doctors couldn’t help me and they also did not find out what causes these stings. It starts randomly, but i noticed it occurs more often when I hold my breath for a bit. Even if it’s just for 10 seconds. This problem came after I recovered from pneumonia. Maybe it’s because of the diaphragm. I’d be glad to hear some suggestions
