I may have missed it, but if this went the route where he plays the minimum 6 games and accrues a season, does he only get paid the prorated portion of that 5th year option saalry for the games played? If so, that seems really counterproductive to his goal of maximizing his earnings. Yes, he would be underpaid at $14.12 mil for this year if he played the whole year, but if he's only paid for 6 games and holds out the rest, his salary would amount to just under $5mil for this year. That doesn't include the $50k/day fines he would incur once he holds out of training camp. His agent would likely advise him of the loophole that other players have practiced of 'holding in' where they show up but don't participate. But if he's still subject to fines as well as prorated salary, playing 6 games to accrue the year doesn't seem like a productive avenue even from BA's standpoint. This would also seem to lower his desirability to other teams, I would think. I would agree with the Krugerrand that he starts the year on the 5th year option, and especially if things are going well, they reach a new agreement early on in the season and sing kumbaya all the way to the supa bo'. The other question I have regards the franchise tagging process. I could be wrong but it appears that the value of the compensation for a tagged player is often (not always but often) more than what the team could get in a trade for the player on the prior year's 5th year option. If the consensus is more or less that BA's value would return a 1st and a 2nd round pick (or a 1st & a 3rd), or just a 1st (if it's high enough in the 1st round) were he to be traded now, but in a year's time, should he be franchise tagged, SF would be compensated with 2 1st round picks should he reach an agreement with another team. I just find it a bit odd that his trade value is not worth more now, on his 5th year option, when he's playing at only $14mil than his compensation value would be at $24+ the following year if he's tagged. Of course, were he to be traded now, that would likely entail an extension at his desired salary so the lower 5th year value may be a moot point. I guess this explains why you rarely see players on the tag move to another team as no one wants to cough up the next two years worth of 1st round picks..too steep. Also, I didn't realize the cost of tagging him for the 2nd season gets much more cost prohibitive. Around $24mil for the first year doesn't sound bad, but if it goes up quite a bit the following year? How often do we see players get tagged twice?
BA is not going anywhere. He's basically under contract for the next 2 seasons after this one. He is trying what Beebo did trying to get what he wants. But unfortunately he doesn't have leverage. Niners have all of the leverage. They will not trade him. Get used to him being here. The cap will rise so they will have more money to make moves. He will get a contract next season, after he plays on the 5th year option.

They could always wait for an inevitable injury to another teams star receiver. That might be a better situation to get good compensation, rather than listen to these lowball offers.

no there is a huge problem the 9ers value him more than his trade value but cant pay him as much as he values himself it was reported the patriots only offered their 2nd last draft at best teams value him as a late 1st early 2nd only they will tag him at least once
Aiyuk can hold out till week 11 but not without risks. The major one is that he is unable to complete 6 games due to injury and his season won't accrue. Additionally, he wouldn't get paid for games he missed and teams would have a tougher time fitting him under the cap midway through the season if a trade was going to happen. The most likely scenario is he plays his 5th year option and he will be on another team the following year.

He’s under contract…but, that doesn’t mean squat….if he doesn’t get his….’bag’…he’s not gonna be happy..he won’t want to be here…he’ll be a distraction in the LR, and taking up a roster spot…trade his ass..get the best deal, and get him the hell out of here….or he plays on the 5th, gets tagged next season and gets a $10M raise…life’s tough…my heart pumps piss for him and his demands
The 49ers are thinking most probably 28 middle of 26.14 and 30 that’s why Aiyuk was thinking they are real close but they wanted to see what JJ gets and on 49ers side they hv a specific amount in mind regardless. Once Aiyuk saw HJs I think he now really wanted 32mil and will settle for -30mil. He wants St. Browns money.
Sure Aiyuk could do the 6 game thing and then sit out the rest of the year. That would reduce his value to other teams because nobody wants to hire a jerk. If the reports from Pittsburg are true about Justin Fields, he wonʻt last either, let alone get The Bag.
I think he'll either sign late like Bosa, or he'll threaten to hold out until week 11 and then get traded. I doubt he'll take the field at 14.1 million and risk getting injured before he gets his megadeal. Also, my man has to feed his family! If he does get traded, I hope it's not to Washington or Pittsburgh. You don't want to set a precedent of letting the inmates run the asylum.
Hate this for BA. Obviously the best receiver on the team. Could be top 5 if the team wasn’t run based. I believe he’s a 1500-1700 yard receiver. Shitty situation
CMC is the best RB in the NFL, on a team that’s run heavy. The offense is more centered around CMC than it is BA. You can pay BA 28 mil but would you get that value considering the system we run? That’s like buying a Ferrari to grocery shop. You’re not maximizing your ROI. If we had an offense that threw 50 attempts a game and he puts up 125+ rec 1,500 yards+ and 12+TDs then yeah.. but he’s not aquite at that level

There aren't many options left. We can gamble and hope Purdy has a bad year (not going to happen) so we can pay him less than what we should pay him Regardless we can't pay 2 guys 30+ mil right now. Because they didn't also have the highest paid LT, RB, defensive player, LB, FB, an all pro CB. The eagles don't have many big investments on defense. Hurts' contract is friendly now, but in 2027 and beyond they'll owe him around 97 million or so.
They are playing musical chairs trade good players before you pay them. Javon Hargrove, Hisan Redick etc… they are paying offensive weapons only. Drafting young players on defense causing them to be weak on that side of the ball.
It's too bad greed is holding back Aiyuk. I would think the few million dollars can easily be made up and more by winning a Super Bowl. Winning a championship is immortality, name recognition and possible endorsements, something that most likely won't happen if he is traded. Just seems shortsighted.
I truly love Surtan but for the cap situation Trading for Christian Gonzales and a pick is better. Surtan will be in the same boat as Aiyuk next season.
Aiyuk is 7th in receptions and 30th in targets. It doesn’t take common sense to see that the 49ers is a run based team. If I was BA I’d want to get the fuck out as well😂. Real ballers know how good he actually is and could be
