Whew. I needed this! I’m a first time Essentials mom heading into week 5. We missed week 3, so it feels like we’re “behind” and I’ve been STRESSING and working so hard not to let my child see it.

Thank you so much for this video and your other Essentials videos. You break it down so well and after I got the curriculum in my hands I was able to understand it more. I'll probably watch this again right before we start. 😂
I really like Fix it Grammar. We only do level ONE and it might take us two years to complete. I do it while doing Essentials, usually starting year 2. It's just added practice identifying what words are doing in a sentence AND its dictionary skills! Love it!
I do. The Essentials curriculum does include spelling, and some use it. It's not done in class at all so is just an optional part to use at home. I have used that, All About Spelling, and most recently, IEW's Phonetic Zoo spelling program.
Do you think a family can start CC with a 4th and 6th grader? Both boys struggle with reading (6th grader more than 4th). Would they both start Essentials?
For sure! Happens all the time. Yes they would both start Essentials. You can read TO your struggling reader and write for them as well (with them dictating to you). Reading ability does not have to hamper success in Essentials- you can help them as much as they need it!
