In falconry. there is an unlimited amount of things to learn. However, experience has told Ryan that there are rules and there is one that he puts at the top. It covers many areas of working with birds of prey, including when training them and flying them free.

Our #1 Rule is similar to yours - Never forget that she is a wild animal and that she will never not be wild. No matter how sweet and accepting she (our FHH) seems to be of us, she has a wild nature and instinct will prevail over our training every time when things are not exactly as we'd have them. Great video and reminder! Beautiful Athena was playing right along! 😅

I love this. Its so true. Especially when you have the general public apporach you and they think birds of prey are like budgies.

Thank you Elizabeth. Yes, that's a good way of putting it.

Athena was v distracting (in a good way) lol. One rule i always like to follow. Always maintain good practice with hygiene. Remembering its raw meat we are handling and we dont want to pass anything to our birds or ourselves. I think this rule is often a hidden one. Theres lots of mini rules i givr myself when handling birds of prey but i think thats because im always fearful of the eventuality of when a bird may fly in the opposite direction.
