I’m hoping for a new 2d Mario game called “Super Mario Bros Wonder” where Mario can become an elephant and all sorts of crazy stuff can happen. But idk that will probably never happen
I’m also hoping for a game called super Mario odyssey to happen where Mario has his hat come to life and act like necrozma and possesses them while traveling throughout different kingdoms to stop a wedding on the moon. It’s never gonna happen tho
Honestly I hope for a 3D Mario game called “Super Mario Dimensions”. My idea is that every Mario character from lots of universes such as the Mario & Luigi Series, Paper Mario, and Mini Mario, could be transported into one world, or Mario and Luigi travel different dimensions.
If Nintendo stepped out of their comfort zone just like they used to in the 1990s - 2000s (and sometimes 2010s), that would make them leave luck to heaven once again!
Unfortunately, despite how great it would be if Nintendo listened to the healthy portion of its fandom that actually wants to see 2D (and Maybw even 3D) Mario games with an also 2D animation style like Super Mario Bros. 3 (either the NES or SNES/GBA version) or Super Mario World 1 (or 2 (Yoshi’s for the SNES/GBA) or both) or Super Mario Bros. 2 with old and new ideas so Nintendo could give us what we loved about the old Super Mario games and expand upon them with new ideas, people would rather underrate those ideas in favour of the same NSMB games over and over again with their modernism which is why it’s gotten more and more over-saturated and made a (mostly) strong franchise like Mario look weak because of not one nor two nor even three but four (or five if counting NSMBW but for as difficult as it may become as it goes on, I guess you can say it is one of the better instalment of the franchise alongside (especially) the original because it does have a kickass soundtrack and sometimes surrealistic level designs that make it feel like it’s own game despite also borrowing heavily from the original).
I'm hoping the next 2d Mario game is a complete new rebrand even with a new villain maybe, and just an entire new type of story. New darker type of music, Mario could be in some alternate universe, and I think this would be an incredible launch title for the next console.
Yes! Anything but another NSMB game! There already exists thousands of Super Mario games if you count the Super Mario hacks (my favourites are the ones with custom soundtracks and also original endings) and Nintendo could make another 2D Mario game in the graphical style of Super Mario World (okay. Maybe there is an idea for an NSMB game that doesn’t feel like the same game over and over again which while I respectfully disagree, some people actually like because it’s Mario/Nintendo even though they’re far from perfect)… New Super Mario World (not to be confused with the duologies by PinkGoldPeach and Bully Mario of the late 2010s (2016-2020) that are also examples of these SMW hacks).
Me too, and not like a sequel to the best game in the series (Super Mario World 2/Super Mario Advance 3: Yoshi’s Island)! More like… well… the original, or Yoshi’s Woolly World!
I do believe a new Mario of some sort will release this year, not only because of The Mario Movie would be great cross-promotion, but because it would be Great way to mirror the success of 2017, not only launching the next big Core Zelda title, but by also launching a new core Mario.
One cool thing I always think about but never expect to Nintendo do is combining traditional Super Mario 2D structure with something like the Ori games, make Mario more story driven, even if it doesn't have dialogue but pure imagery, make 2D Mario cinematic with great landscapes, well, I hope this dream can come true...
I have an idea of a 3D Mario called Through the Mario-Verse, where you play as multiple Mario’s from different universe, all of which are different genres and you fight different Bowser versions.
But sadly, when it comes to 2D Mario games, it would be too interesting for Nintendo to do since the only 2D Super Mario games they’ve been giving us were the New Super Mario Bros. games from the late 2000s - 2010s (it was fun the first time, but it became the same game fast and it didn’t give Peach anything to do but wait for the Mario Bros. and Yellow & Blue Toads to rescue her when the least she could do was send them items like in the masterpiece (or at least just a great game in general regardless of the version) that is Super Mario Bros. 3 when *they* were working their butts off to save her and other female Mario characters didn’t get the spotlight (except for Toadette in NSMBUDX, which outside of Peachette, is the worst of the worst because with it in the late 2010s, the series had even less new things to offer than in 2012 with NSMB2 and NSMBU which credit where credit is due, the former at least had some interesting backgrounds/themes when it came to the special maps.).
@@StevenJones851 Which unfortunately, as safe as the games themselves may play it with personality-free characters (especially Peach being the one that pretends to need rescuing by not doing anything which probably lead to her leaving Mario and Bowser on the moon in the otherwise epic Super Mario Odyssey), reused (albeit fun on their own) soundtracks and samey level design (which apologists of the series treat like a good thing because they think Mario/Nintendo shouldn't be even constructively criticized), people act like it's a misunderstood series by reviewers like AntDude, Demeech (who recently made another one of those "Is New Super Mario Bros. a Bad Series" videos) and more even though they have every right to critique those games (they may like these games on their own but also feel like the same games as predecessors and that Nintendo can do much better than that).
I don't think Nintendo sees any such thing as "2D Mario". There are course-clear games, and more open 64-type games. 3D Land and 3D World were the most recent course-clear games, and their inclusion in Mario Maker 2 makes me think that Nintendo definitely thinks of these as being the next games in that lineage. So, the next 2D game will probably be 3D.
I would like to see Nintendo make a Bowser Solo Game where you can play as Bowser and breathe fire by killing enemies with fire and defeating bosses too Bowser deserves his own Villain too.....
This has some good ideas. I know Super Mario Wonder has been announced at the time of this comment, but a 2D Mario with a hub world like Mario 64 could be cool, with you needing star coins to unlock boss battles, with normal levels still being sort of linear
I want a linear 2D Mario game. Multiplayer. I want to play as Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Wario, Waluigi. I want the whole game to look like the classic art work by Yoichi Kotabe.
I think Idea 2, the hub, should also have online capability that doesn't require NSO. Maybe you could trade coins and power-ups, it would also make multiplayer easier and more fun as you could play with other players in the Hub.
The next Mario game could use amiibos to unlock new power ups and levels. The next Mario game will be text based ; Mario see a hammer. What do you want to do? I take the hammer. You can't reach the hammer.
I would be completely satisfied if they just made a collection of ports of games from earlier consoles. And of course a "Super Mario 3D All-Stars Deluxe" containing all 3D marios except Odyssey.
When you bought up hub worlds, I wasn’t really sure what Nintendo would do with that, but the hub world in super Mario 63 was really fun to run around in despite it being 2d so I’d love to see what a company that’s full of developers could do!
9:05 I’m still rejecting a Super Mario Odyssey 2, you’re not getting it, THOMAS!! You better change your tune about Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, or else, I’m still supporting PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie.
I think they would modernise the NSMB series first before doing leap in the franchise. The art style won’t be stylised since Nintendo haven’t done it for the series. In addition, other stylised game exist already like Yoshi and Kirby. Therefore, I think a 3D world like art style is more likely and for the better, just like you said. For move wise, they can port all move from 3D world like long jumps and backflip(sideflip won’t be there since Nintendo haven’t brother to add it in maker 2). Let me talk about the gameplay, I think they’re gonna stuck with 2D mario like NSMBU but to shake it up a bit. New power up like the poison flower or super bone might get introduce. You can use the super bone to turn Mario into dog Mario, it can let Mario walk on ceilings and comes with a wipe attack. Another one is the poison flower, it let Mario shoot poison ball that make emeries became poisoned and not exist after a while, the average is you can attack a bunch of emeries before the ball runs out. 100 coins now grant a life and a power up to make coins worthwhile. The life system only let you store 9 life and only reset star coin instead of level progress as a trade off. Each world of the game have a similar theme to NSMBU with a twist, like a red desert or a fall forest. The power up storing system would now have item number instead of slot like Bowser’s Fury and can have 1 power up that can be brought to the level as well as for storing power-up collected.(A mix of SMB3 and SMW system) More emeries will be returned and introduced like shy guy(You can pick up them unlike goombas and can be thrown or the goo loomba(replaced goombas in the later level), they can be picked up. Not to mention the spin jump from NSMBWii and 3D world both returns, with the 3D world one renamed to charged spin jump to avoid confusion to the NSMB spin jump and can spin in mid-air if you twirl while pressing up. For lack of difficulty, Mario should always be accessible, they should have the same difficulty as NSMBU, bring back special remixed level for 3D land so more experienced player can have a better experience.
Wait, no backtracking? Then what's even the point of this?! Mario games are segmented in levels so that you can go back and replay any part of the game specifically after you beat it. Metroidvanias are open so that you get to gather resources to explore new areas as well as exploring familiar areas more deeply. But with this weird mesh, you loose the ability to play specific stages, AND you don't even get the Metroidvania immersion because you're essentially still going in a straight line! It's all of the downsides with none of the advantages of each one!
If I’m understanding this correctly, the ideas you come with would essentially just turn 2D Mario into a Metroidvania. I don’t think one big map would be good for 2D Mario, but who knows, it hasn’t happened yet xd
But like imagine that whole “one giant level” idea but like Odyssey where you travel to a hand full of huge levels full of collectables. Basically Odyssey in 2D
A new 2D Mario would be welcome, just as long as it manages to stand out from the New Super Mario Bros series, since that already got stale after 4 entries.
maybe a kirby style game as in how each power is different like mario having his cape and fire powers luigi with the poltergust wario with his bike yadayadayada and maybe bowser can help fight a new villain? maybe adopting marios concept name (Mr video)
Honestly, I don’t think they should reinvent the wheel. The 2D mario formula is gold- I would just like some new power ups with the old, new levels/worlds to play through, and perhaps a new enemy to battle
I would love to see a Mario go the sonic mania route. Remastered Mario world sprite art, Returning worlds and level gimmicks and power ups but with brand new worlds power ups and gimmicks. And I definitely hope this game would be more challenging and the level design would contain tight platforming. If only Nintendo didn’t kill all its fan projects then around Odysseys release we would have a Mario mania if you will. I know nsmb has already so much fan service but this would be kinda different
I hope next Super Mario 2d game have new typ of world's such as pirate world City world Temple world Factory world Savannah world Wild west world Space World Autumn world Candy world Casino World Toy world Musical instrument world Greek style of world Oil world New type of levels such as Mine cart level Train level Boat Level Tree top level And I hope next 2d mario game have new type of goal too
“It’s crazy that we’ve gone over ten years without a brand-new entry.” Super Mario Maker: “Are my sequel and I (and to some extent my 3DS port) _jokes_ to you?”
I'd be much sadder if multiplayer Mario like 3D World will be abandoned. Having a grand adventure with friends and family is what Mario is all about to me. I was only a fan of the first two solo 3D Marios. They should come up with new platforming mechanics and put more emphasis on multiplayer being able to help each other out instead inadvertently making each other fall to their deaths etc.
I’m hopeful for a 2D game called: “Super Mario mania” Basically peach is kidnapped by bowser after he sends an identical looking Mario clone only he’s evil to distract Mario then bowser jr kidnaps peach and Mario must search and rescue peach!
I'm kind of disappointed Mario hasn't had a new 2D adventure in a while. I became a Mario fan only around New Super Mario Bros. Wii so I didn't have much more time before the most recent 2D Mario.
Super Mario World was released in 1990 and New Super Marios Bros DS in 2006, thats a 16 year gap Mario Maker 2 was released in 2019, thats a 4 years gap 2D Mario is doomed
Idk, I think 2D mario SHOULD be simple. Like something that my parents could play no problem. All of this extra stuff belongs in 3D mario games (to me)
what if it had a campaign which is the normal mario games with the idea #1 AND a mario maker in the same game. and this mario maker will have everything the campaign has. including placeable liquids. maybe it will be a dlc or the campaign will be a dlc but this would be a great way to end the 2d mario series if they have to but this would be history.
