@@graealexhe must’ve doubled that and then some. 😅 I just subbed, and I checked the link to aliexpress, and it’s less than $300au, including the hackefone? The hackrfone sells for double that on its own!? Is this is a clone copy version?
It's a really interesting platform with a lot of potential. It's already one of the best portable radio tools around, and the firmware is getting better by leaps and bounds.
@@hanfo420 True, but this is a finished product with an already well thought out portfolio of applications. The HackRF itself allows to do basically everything you want as long as you know how to address it correctly.
VERY nicely done walk thru of the features to understand the device in a overall way. Great presentation and short enough to enjoy without having the need of a cup of coffee to get thru it :) Please do a follow up on more features where you also dig into the TX part. I would love to learn more about its TX capabilities, the output strengts and such.
ive wanted to play around with armature radio for a good bit of time but it all seemed pretty intimidating i found the hackrf and even though its not perfect i feel like the ui is a great thing for learning i picked up a portapack from aliexpress the other day and im exited to use it as a learning tool ive played around with the flipper zero and a few other fun tools from dstike so exited to learn more about this field and thank you for this amazing video on the hackrf the production quality was amazing :)
I highly encourage you to consider getting your ham license. It's quite easy. The ham community has a wealth of knowledge they love to share. Designing and Building your own transceivers is one of the most challenging and rewarding aspects of the hobby. Keep exploring the magic invisible world of RF and good luck with your portapack. 📻 📡 🤖
I didn't know the Portpack project existed. I have been struggling with draining cell phones and tablets or using clunky notebooks to use the HRF outside, so thanks for posting this video which "randomly" showed up in the suggested videos list. I found motherboard/battery/enclosure kits without the HRF for $90 on Amazon. That looks like the way to go, unless someone knows of a better option.
You'll probably already have it now, but ali was the way to go for me (so long as it arrives) saved more than half what I expected to pay for the HackRF + Porta elsewhere. Comes with 5 antennas and a LNA too, was skeptical of using ali, but people I trust said it's fine so I guess it's fine, just longer shipping and less customer service I assume. Can't wait for mine to arrive, Flipper is great, but getting unmodulated signals is something I want to do now, radio has really grabbed a hold on me.
@@daviddavidson2357I've actually had really good customer service experiance through aliexpress, it's kind of like ebay in that it all comes down to the seller some are more knowledgable then western sellers and anytime I've had a problem with a seller aliexpress has sided with me.
Not really two products you can compare, they are build to pentest / debug completely different areas … one is a full fledge SDR the other a tool for specific areas made easy. Both tools can be used for redteaming and both should be carried not one over the other. Also for the most out of your HackRF use it with a laptop. Two very great tools, those who call Flipper Zero for a toy don’t really work in the industry that’s for sure :) A “toy” simple tool always has the biggest impact on a customer when showcasing security …
@@DanielKarnole-fs3hm 1000% His claims are the Flipper has better documentation and a bigger community around it. That right there tells me he hasn’t a clue, as the amateur radio community FULLY supports the HackRF among others and it’s far more a professional and capable tool than the overgrown tamagotchi. The sole reason the Flipper is making any such waves is simple… smooth brain, script kiddies need zero talent to run the laughable nonsense with a quick download and push of a button. Professional tools require skill, understanding, and a some gray matter.
Planning on getting a hackrf eventually but for now a flipper zero is best for my money. Interesting devices and will be really fun to start playing with rf.
Great video! I've been thinking about making a Pi Zero/ RTL-SDR handheld inspector tool for a while. This is that, and then some! I'll be getting one of these for sure
Both tools are completely different. The flippers used for IR, Ibutton, subghz, and RFID. The hackrf, while capable of recording a signal, is a traciever designed for radios. A flipper and hackrf save files are not interchangeable that I know of. At least not out of the box. The big brother to the Flipper is dependent on the frequency. That could be a small usb dongle for IR, a microcontroller, or an FPGA. The big brother to the hackrf are it's individual transcievers, which each have their own solutions.
The portapack has some neat features but honestly it’s lacking in a lot of areas even with the mayhem firmware. The portapack however allows for mobile usage so developing custom firmware tools on the portapack is where it shines.
Could you kindly tell me more about what features you find lacking? I'm looking at buying one myself. I'd like to find out if it can be used for P25 trunked systems? Will it decode PSK, RTTY? WEFAX? HFDL?
It will get better over time as the raw tools are all there, you'll see people adding programs to it, it's kind of like an updated hardware set up, but without the tools that have been built for flipper zero. Remember, flipper is much more evolved. This is new and has a lot of opportunity to be far better than the flipper but for size, flipper wins, but add a headset to it and it looks just like a radio.
Effing mann jeg havde ikke engang set på din info før jeg skrev det haha Tænker på at bygge min egen signal interference, med en rc-oscillator for brug i 800MHz til 1900MHz
The flipper might be a toy out of the box with its software limitations. But modified with custom firmware and added hardware to the GPIO ports the flipper is a strong and handy tool. The big pluss for rhe flipper is that it has all these functions in a slick and tiny design where as the hackRF is quite large and not easy to hide.
With only 2 videos released, he's off to a flying start. Yes, I'm impressed with the presentation of this video, it's quality. I'm looking forward to more of his videos...off to watch the other video now.
Got 3:35 few tips only 16g max for the card and format fat 32 only. Put all the folders out front so when you open the SD card all the folders pop up. You can also tell the SD card is working under folders. FYI don't get the newer version of this tool as support won't be available. It's the one that had a speaker built in.
Interesting, but nothing beats a miniPC laptop with a HackRF box in terms of capability and functionality especially the far superior user interface. The Flipper is fine quick fork in the field.
This is definitely true, and the true capability of the hack rf is only brought out when custom code is developed for it from my experience. Script kid tools like mayhem just encourage random kids to cause damage.
@@YardKat666 dont do that, because making planes not know the location of themselves or other planes can easily get planes lost, and even cause crashes. normally flight data is needed to know if the pilot is going in the right direction, if they are at the right altitude, or if they are at risk of collisions with other aircraft, spoofing plane data might also lead with aircraft flying into dangerous areas, such as places with terrorists which are known to use MANPADS, this can lead to the plane being shot down, another possibillity is flying into restricted airspace where fighter jets will be scrambled to shoot down the airliner. (last time i checked, unarmored aircraft do not do well against a AIM-9 Sidewinder)
Makes it superior in radio but lacks the other stuff for those who want to learn a bit of this and that without sinking 3x more money than they need to
I would like to be able to capture LoRa packets on the 868MHz band, replay them, and display the data on a PC. Is this achievable with this setup? This is for a scientific project that focuses on the security of LoRaWAN, examining potential attacks such as "man in the middle" attacks, eavesdropping, data tampering, and more.
So I can use it like a radio, I can text with it, I can use it like a spectrum analyzer, I can send pictures from unit to unit and apparently rings my neighbors wireless doorbell. Oh and play games on it! Kinda like an all in one….
Agreed it needs a manual switch for hackrf. Mine is accidentally turned on easily. I bought it with a speaker and internal battery which isn't always the norm. Hoping one day someone will update the hardware with faster processing, usbc etc
Does a PortaPack with Mayhem firmware have the capability to decode APCO Project 25 trunked systems? Can it decode any other digi signals like PSK, RTTY? WEFAX? SelCall? HFDL?
This might be a stupid question, but are all of those functions legal? Broadcasting onto some of those frequencies (the ones relating to navigation) seems like it could result in some pretty dangerous outcomes. Or are radios of this size simply unable to send strong enough signals to do anything other than in-lab experimentation?
Oh yes, super illegal in most countries. Except for very specific bands and transmit powers. Definitely don't get one and just start playing around with it. Really read into it. A great step is to just get a simple cheap sdr antenna USB dongle. You can receive only (no danger of breaking the law), but you can play around and get some hands on experience!
Great Video. Is it possible to get a frequency analyzer function with normal RTL SDR sticks? Like I'f I'm pressing a button of my remote near my antenna, I can see it in the software automatically which frequency it is (for SDR#)?
Did adding the speaker have any negative effects on the analyzing the RF signal? I can only assume the option to have audio onboard from a speaker was left out by design.
Any thoughts on the LimeSDR? I'm interested in purchasing one, but haven't seen many videos on people using it. I'm very new to SDR, so looking for tutorials on how it works, what it can do, use existing software as well creating new applications (Gnu Radio Companion), with or without the Flipper zero!
How do you exactly get the correct pin code using the porta pack only using touch tunes? Does the portapack have the ability to brute force all 256 possible PIN codes or do you need additional software for it to work?
This is probably a stupid question but can this record and play back a gym card from a bit of distance? I'm planning a road trip and going to be sleeping in my car, I was sort of hoping I could find a morally grey area way to use the showers at gyms as I go along my way, but it seems like you need to have direct contact with the cards to clone them. I've been reading conflicting info about the hackrf having no nfc/rfid abilities and maybe the chameleon being the best option
unless your gym uses very old card readers then no. Playback doesn't work as the nfc process is a handshake -- the transmitter sends data using a rolling hash and the nfc card replies with a salted response. If you record then play it back the transmitter will just think it's jibberish.
all of our public street lighting have dimming profiles controlled by a central base station. they speak to the base station via SIM, do you think it possible to hack the street light and adjust ?
Much more than the flippers build in antenna yeah - the primary reason is that you can fit external antennas on HackRF Portapack by default. I haven't tested range of flipper with an external antenna vs portapack, but my guess is that the range would be similar then.
Nice video, great device that I already wanted to buy a long time ago. I saw that there was a mini H2 and H3 portapack, a little more expensive, they don't have the two antenna sockets at the bottom. Is it better than the portapack+hackrf in the video? I thought I read one day that there was a version that should definitely not be taken because of the firmware which was a bit "locked", I don't really remember the article that I read . Can anyone tell me which version not to take?
Is there anything else that exists that I can buy to find my garage door code and use it to open/close it? I have numerous garage door openers (my garage door uses some frequency I cant find). I have never been able to find a similar device, it has no name or model number on the board at all.
So, if I don’t know anything about this topics. Would you guys suggest going for the Flipper or HACK? Also there’s a pack of them, but idk if I’m gonna need both
Did you use special drivers to install the latest version of Mayhem firmware? I'm having issues with the firmware loader. I have the same unit as you. Also...do you have a link for the speaker? Thanks!
I just installed the firmware by loading it onto the sd card and the Firmware Flash Utility in the Utilities folder. The speaker I ripped off some other random electronics device in my pile, so I don't have a link for it, sorry.
Nintendo 3ds /DS speaker. Each has 2 so a donor of 1 works without ruining the DS... just no s teruio sound...jus t mono.. Plus I believe it has same jst connection plug
So I'm a nerd who likes to dabble in pretty much any area of technology, and I'm a programmer and tinkerer at heart. So I've been thinking about buying one of these for legal purposes since I have so many things in my house that emits radio signals. My car included. Which one would be the best to play around with for a beginner? At most, I'd like to prank my dad by overlapping my voice onto the radio channel he listens to when he gets in his car (we live close). That stuff about airplanes and stuff scare the living shit out of me. Not only because I'm completely against stuff that could potentially mess with the security of other people, but also because I live right next to one of the biggest airports in Europe. I'd be paranoid even to see that function pop up on the screen.
Great Video! do you think you will do any more videos on the hack RF? I just picked one up and so far your video is by far the best in explaining. How things work
