One of my favorite moments in the Voya Nui arc was Kongu discovered that his Oni-Matoran buddy, Nuparu was blessed with the Kanohi Kadin, Mask of Flight. A mask that was better than Lewa's Miru in basically every conceivable way lol
@@bionic-tale4313 True. But Lewa basically had to use the Miru in tandem with his elemental abilities to "fly." The Kadin enables self powered flight lol
@@taqresu5865Yeah, but you can't stop where you're going with the kaiden or even slow down unless you're incredibly precise with your turns. Nurparu was lucky that the organic mask let's him master it quickly or else he'll be crashing into a lot of things.
@@bionic-tale4313 That's true, I just thought Kongu's reaction was hilarious. And organic or not, I bet that a Toa of Air could master such a Kanohi. Take the Miru for instance. It's just a mask of levitation, but with his elemental abilities, Lewa can practically fly with it (providing thrust and other forces needed to fly). In fact, I think the reason he was able to rescue Pewku in the Mask of Light is that he shared his levitation as the Miru Nuva can so that Peeku doesn't burden Lewa's flight.
@@taqresu5865 That actually would make sense & would be very advantageous for Toa who specializes in Arial activity. Yeah, lewa combining his air powers with his Miru is very accurate in lore. In his Nuva state, since he has air katana that act more like wings for him, whenever he's in his flying position.
I always found this mask design so interesting. Feeling a little repulsed by it at first, but it grew on me, Lol. Might be one of my favorites now, though honestly I would say that about many of the masks.
I'm still somewhat new to the deeper lore but there's something I'm a bit confused about. On BS01, it says the power of shadow was originally not morally good or bad, but also implies that draining a matoran's elemental light also drains their moral light (shadow leech). I'm curious because I like the idea of a good-aligned toa of shadow, but I'm not sure if that's possible in established canon (besides Takanuva who was only partially drained of light). A video on the relationship between elemental/moral light and shadow would be interesting for sure!
Every living being has a certain amount of light inside of them. The amount of light basically determines how good or evil a being is. Shadow used to not be good or bad but the Makuta’s betrayal was what corrupted Shadow to the point where it is recognized as evil. Thus, by the time Shadow Leeches were invented, sucking the inner light out of beings made them evil since it was already well-known that shadow was evil and the absence of light made beings have a higher potential of being evil. A Good-aligned Toa of Shadow would still be possible if that Toa existed before the Makuta’s corruption. I think after the Makuta betrayed Mata Nui, being good while also being a user of shadow was virtually impossible as that potential for evil was unavoidable.
Essentially, the Makuta’s betrayal placed a curse on the element of shadow in which anything associated with shadow was corrupted by evil. We will certainly do a video on the Elements and perhaps do a Turaga Talk about moral light and shadow.
@@amajanuitales Thanks for the thorough response! I hadn't considered that the betrayal had cursed/corrupted the *entire* element, but I guess that seems appropriately dramatic given Makuta's personality. I also went back and read Greg's take on it as I should have done, and I like the idea that "darkness, even when used for good, is inherently corrupting."
