EDIT: Here's a compilation of most of the sounds, just in case you want to hear them for some reason: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jq6ENVx7QMc.html I'd recommend headphones if you want to hear the earlier sounds better. I didn't turn the music way down because then people would crank their own volume up to hear it at the normal level and get their ears destroyed by the truly loud sounds later (for example 15:29). I could turn it down a little next time but it's probably safer this way.
Me, an audio engineer in a free time: "It would not be so straightforward to measure loudness because perceived loudness may change drastically due to added harmonics during clipping..." Wand of Sparking: "Pixels"
Not to mention perceived loudness and actual loudness are something like 1:5. Where we perceive things twice as loud when they're actually 10 times as loud. Though, like you said, that depends on what pitches/tones we're talking about.
I don't think most people can remember when they've last heard the difference between say, 40 and 50 decibels. It's just "big number go up :o" for me. So it's easier to illustrate when people have a direct comparison. Even if you know that decibels are exponential, 8 times will seem more impressive to most as it is easier to visualise. I definitely agree that it was incredibly funny and very unexpected when they pulled out a ruler. Which they made themselves at that! 😹 I don't think it's an oversight as they're literally editing and sound adjusting all the time. Either way, it was clever and worked out.
3:09 Guide: "They say there is a person who will tell you how to survive in this land... oh wait. That's me." *The 30k megaton nuke in Wand of Sparking's pocket* ☝😃💡
"i hope you aren't trying to fall asleep to this video or anything" clearly the words of a man who has never enjoyed the experience of falling asleep to "10 Hours of Construction Sound"
I’ve seen people who have fallen asleep to the noise of large conventions. Honestly amazing how much we will eventually filter out into background noise if we are that tired.
Proposal: old one's army, make an army of ballistas that all fire simultaneously. That's the loudest I've heard in a while. I haven't watched the video all the way through yet, but still.
Measuring loudness with a ruler instead of decibels and the revolver being the standard unit of measurement is accidentally the most american thing ever
i'm gonna be honest. it's more understandable than decibels since there's actually a base sound to go off of. i could never find information on how loud 1 decibel is supposed to be.
@@Lunarcreeper 1 dBSPL is very very faint, inaudible by most, 40 dBSPL being about equivalent to whispers, while 60-70 is like a busy road. SPL = Soubd Pressure Level since that scale is based on sound pressure in micropascals which range from like 20 to 100 million instead of 0 to 130 dB
@@psgamer-il2pt Bruh the "Americans refuse to measure things appropriately" meme doesn't work when you're talking about Canadians, because they _already use metric_
I remember back when I first discovered Terraria, I joined a Steam group for multiplayer sessions. One of those sessions ended up being a huge mess where the server mods spawned a metric fuckton of EOCs which themselves ended up spawning a metric fuckton of Servants. The servants ended up bunching up together trying to kill me and I got the brilliant idea to use a Ball O' Hurt to kill them all at once. Let me tell you, the sound of all those mobs dying at once was SO LOUD.
The main source of sound for the coin bomb was to have as many rows falling at once, try using a scarab bomb instead for more rows. Avoid triggering the limit by reducing the amount of blocks above the scarab bomb, might want to use some math for that. Also, the loudest weapon would defo be the chain gun
I believe it's mostly the breaking of the coins, I've dropped the max amount with actuators and not gotten much sound. I do think a scarab bomb is worth a test for sure, or maybe just more wired explosives.
@@WandofSparkingi think the source of the sound is from the coins landing, landing makes the placement sound, and when 100 land at the same time, the placement sound is layered 100 times, making it 100 times louder.
Vortex Beater, I don't use it mainly because of the sound (the Phantasm's Technically also more powerful, but I don't care about that since I use the Aerial Bane) That being said, the Celebration MKII with Mini Nukes attempting to blow up chests is really loud too)
The Lunatic Cultist death cry is quite loud, so stacking it might be worth a try. The Moon Lord’s spawn and deaths sounds are loud as well. Empress of Light has some very shrill sounds, but I’m not sure they peak as much as coins do.
I think it might have been a good idea to completely pause the music when the sounds get played. Especially the more quiet ones. But I guess turning it down was fine too.
19:32 multiple dying bosses at once. their sounds are typically louder than that of the enemies'/the forming of obsidian(A LOT of it) at once, which is also incredibly painful to hear
I'm not sure how you could get multiple of them due it to being a pet, but the Companion Cube will play the Lunatic Cultist's death sound upon falling into lava. However, sometimes it can play the Moon Lord's death sound instead, which is definitely one of the things that comes to mind when thinking about very loud sounds in this game
I remember the randomized world you gave us after your first playthrough had a living tree turned into platinum coins, and my friend was hypnotized mining them one by one, while I was in absolute pain, begging for them to stop... Now, I'll watch the video and see if it comes even close to what you have in store for us.... Edit: I guess I was correct on one ingredient, even if it only beat the handful of coins by small amount.
Man I spent a couple of years getting my minor in acoustics, and you found a way to get around all of the normal ways of measuring sound by using a digital ruler and pixels in your recording software. But, while the professional half of my brain lies shot and bleeding, the fun side giggles with joy every time that ruler comes on screen.
The teleportation potion resetting wings works with the conch variants as well as long as the requirement for them to tp you isn’t met. for example if the entire underworld is flooded with lava
i think the reason the coins are so loud is because it places the coin when it lands, which plays the placement sound, however, when you break the bottom of a tower of coins, they all land on top of each other at the same time, layering the audio about 100 times, making it extremely loud. the loudest sound you could probably make is by finding a way to have the maximum entity limit of falling coins at once, and having them all land at the same time without breaking. although i could be wrong, there might be an easier way or something louder.
Like with the teleportation potions, the demon convh also resets your wings. That one's far more practical in a normal playthrough as you can invalidate the demon conch spawn much faster comparatively.
Similar hearing damage issues; the coins are somewhat audible to me, and annoying, but given that some of the other sounds in the video are essentially silent to me I'm sure I'm missing quite a lot of this video's full cursed aura.
im pretty sure the coins scaled with the height of the stack, as it has to play a noise when every coin above the one broken falls, meaning, coin tower from sky limit could potentially be louder, paired with coin bomb or DCU could potentially hit 8
A better way to measure loudness is not by taking the maximum amplitude of the sound (= where the curve goes up the most) but with loudness units (LU). This is specifically designed to measure how loud a sound is perceived by the human ear
funny thing is that i often watch your videos to fall asleep, because i like the music an your challenges or random facts. also reading the subtitle really tires my eyes. love your content
The loudest sound in this video was definitely the music. Really didn't help with judging which sound was loudest because it was an undisputed champion
For the first few, that's true. I had to tailor it around the louder sounds. If I left the music really quiet in the beginning, people would crank up the volume to hear it at the normal level and then get their ears destroyed by the later sounds. If you really want to hear it though, headphones work much better than speakers.
@@WandofSparking if you really wanted you could spend 30 minutes to an hour just turning down the music a bit a few seconds before and after test audio is playing. i agree it wasn't really that noticeable though
