Just woke up and watched this with my 3 year old he loves rally / Subaru videos and for a 3 year old to have a 26 min attention span is a good compliment joe 😂. You make all the right points that make us love these cars.
@Xavier Flavor doubt they would do much, dealers list these cars used right at MSRP new. Not sure why people buy these cars used, it's crazy how much they hold their value.
I’m glad that they didn’t ignored me when I told them not to remove the plastics on the body and the seats. It was fresh off of the truck. No wash or swirl marks. It still even had the plastic on my 2019 sti limited. No drill front plate
I like the “old” rumbling EJ motor I fell in love with when I was a kid. in a newer, safer, stiffer chassis with big brakes, hydraulic steering, MANUAL transmission... people hate on it but I love my ‘18 STI. I do wish it was 50 hp more though🤫
juSTIn Turner it only “rumbled” because of a poorly engineered inefficient header design.... a kid near me made his own custom fab’d headers on his little beater 1.7L EM2 civic daily, sounds just like a Subaru... my Speed6 also has a very unequal manifold stock and it also rumbles... swap to a quality CP-e or Full Race manifold and you lose the rumble but gain better spool, transient response, and more power.
@@HeroJirro ej205*. he is right. Subaru haven't confirmed anything regarding the EJ257. But they have confirmed and just posted a goodbye video for the EJ205.
Because of your Subaru Forester Sport review at the other dealer in Port Richey I called them to buy the car!! We made a deal on my trade and the difference in cash payment. Last minute their manager said they can’t do that deal and I wound up not doing business with them. Point is, your review led me to purchasing a car from that dealer.. and I live in TN! Dealer pulled back at last minute, was not your fault or mine. Keep up good work! Sal
Thanks Raiti for your review, I was an EVO guy but playing this video over and over I just had to get one. Got the White 20' STi base model, love every time I get into it.
I was never into cars. My best friend told me to try the 18 Rex and i fell in love and i modded it to the point of not blowing up the engine. I’m doing a video soon to show what it’s like modding it to the point of not blowing up the engine and i really love it. Great review! But I’m glad i bought a base 18 Rex. Cheers! ❤️
I own a 2019 Series Gray. The back seat does have space but not behind my seat, but maybe because I'm 6ft4 😅 complaints from almost exactly a year of ownership, head-unit had to be replaced twice, android auto/apple carplay sticks the entire thing sometimes and deletes any presets. Passenger seat airbags randomly disables with someone sitting there. Another warranty issue. 3rd gear randomly shuts me out even in normal driving conditions. Clutch needed to be replaced at 15000kms. Not my fault, another warranty issue. I know manuals lose power with the AC on but Jesus does it die with the AC on. Like way more than I would've expected. To do a pull on the highway, I literally turned it off. Brakes squeal alot sometimes. Not regular just washed/cold weather squealing. But actual squealing. All in all, I'm pretty modified now, so it's fine for me at the moment because I got rid of most of the problems (but also got rid of the warranty lmao). But hopefully they fix alot of the minor problems. Been a Subaru owner for years, but I think this is my last one. For the price of competitors, I may unfortunately do the switch.
@@RaitisRides it is what it is. Every car has some issues and none are perfect. I really hope the big refresh changes my mind. Because since my Hawkeye back in 06 to now, love the cars and the heritage that comes with it. But my motto, is if there's problems, mod them away haha
I was really hoping for some big changes but after watching I’m really glad they didn’t. I have a 15 which is pretty much the same thing and I love it. In a way, when they do finally change it up, it’ll be sad to see it go. Anyway great video like always. I love the performance car reviews you do.
The engine HAS had a significant upgrades; More specifically to the fuel delivery. They switched to direct fuel injection instead of port which is basically where the extra horsepower came from. Its also why the engine sounds different from the older models. There has been other changes, better timings, more optimal connecting rod length. (now at a staggered setup) Variable Valve timing (VVT) upgrades have been more prominent in the 2016+ models. In fact, the only thing that remains the same from 2004 to 2020 is the block itself. I do realize that is basically THE ENGINE, but there is a lot going on around it to make it run faster, better and efficient.
incorrect. EJ is not DIT, don't know where you heard that from but that's super incorrect. the block is the same but different. changed in 2018. everything 2018 and up takes the same type RA block.
U know what Joe I'd like to take a brief minute here and say that my love for Subaru WRX'S and STI'S will never fade away from me and my love and passion for cars🙏🙏♥️♥️🤝🤝. Personally Joe I actually really fricking love White on WRX STI'S in my opinion, yes I know that the World Rally Blue is very common on basically every STI that I've seen, but this will absolutely do it for me. Those Wheels & Calipers r absolutely stunning in every way possible, goes amazingly with the White ♥️. The Short Throw Shifter is flawless absolutely flawless in every way under the sun ♥️♥️♥️. Would love to see a in depth review and update on your 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA 1 of these day's. Bless u Joe 🙏🙏♥️♥️🤝🤝. Thanks Joe. Keep up the great work and reviews.
@@RaitisRides Bless u Joe for your outstanding performance and hard work everyday, it puts such a huge smile on my face ❤❤❤. SUBARU FOREVER!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤.
I absolutely love my 2019 STI Limited, but I'd definitely LOVE it a lot more with another 100 horsepower or so. I personally like the black wheels better than these.
These motors are running from the factory. Also. All test drives people floor the cars anyways. I've yet to see an issue with the said 500 miles. I floored the shit out of my BRZ when it was brand new with 12 miles on it. Sold it last year at 136k miles and never had an issue. Just replaced the battery at 74k miles
Just an Evo driver popping in to say hey. Good luck with the headgasket. And enjoy this one boys. Final edition, like we had with the evo and the friendly historical rivalry Subaru and Mitsubishi had in the wrc, its sad to see them now both come to end. Rip.
I drive a 2016 STI every day and I´m still in love with it. It´s a shame that we can not buy the next generations of WRX STI in Germany. Thanks for this nice video. Liked and subbed! 👍
Totally worth it! It's an awesome car! Front seat upper bolstering is comfortable and supportive. You have to test drive to understand the planted hug turning feel of this car! So much fun to drive! Great job Joe, Tom and Lori! Love the new merch sweatshirt, hats, drawstring bag, dog bandana, etc! Congrats Tom aka Big Guns McGee! 128k subscribers will soon surpass 200k!
Haha turning feel? Subarus placement of their engine is the worst possible, forward to the front axle which causes immense understeer due to polar moment, causing Subaru losing streak of years to Citroen and even Ford in the WRC leading to their retiring. Don't believe the hype of low sense of gravity mumbo jumbo, as long as the engine is placed behind the front axle even if it is sat on the hood it will turn better than the boxer. Couple that with the weight of the AWD axle, you are left behind on track days.
Love your STI reviews Joe because you are a true STI enthusiast. My 2019 has the optional center armrest as well but do not mind not have alcantara. My grubby elbow would be causing a dirt spot on that versus rubberized material.
Thing is what I always loved about this engine is that it feels more emotional than new engines. New engines run perfect, there's nothing wrong with them. But I like engine with character. I like the boost lag and when it kicks in. It gives the car personality. That was the buying argument for me. Mine has the push start as well and it's a 2018. But what bummed me was that the year directly after got the new head unit. But those fog light covers are sexy damn. But guess what. It is a plug and play for my 2018 lol
Love that Subaru as a company has the bandwidth to keep this niche market fulfilled! I'm in Vermont and WRX/STI are a dime a dozen, but it's important that they sell to keep things competitive. I'm hoping they outfit the new STI with something truly assertive. Give it a new 3L engine with the same size turbo so it sets itself apart from the current 2L fa20dit. 330hp from factory, upgrade the turbo and your 3L STI hits 500whp all day. Wouldn't that be the dream for enthusiasts looking for a reason to buy an STI over a WRX other than the trans?
I feel very old , I remembered back in 2006 when I bought my 2006 sti ,white with gold rims , blue seats and gold brembo calipers , ej25 would always be in my heart , STI ❤️ the end of a generation.
Ordered a 2020 STI limited in pearl white with short throw shifter on September 7th. Tomorrow will be 4 weeks. The wait is tough;) thanks for the awesome review!
@@RaitisRides Thank you. One question I have for you good sir. Does it seem the stock mapping has changed? Being it's more linear? I thought I heard they may have put a more of a 209 map in it . Thanks
@@JeremyERevo i know that. A tune doesn't add another 40hp bro. Also if you know that. Then why are you asking if it had more of a "s209 tune". Seems like you're asking a question that you know the answer to. 😂
Just bought a 2020 sti. The interior basically looks the same since 2016. The car is a little bit longer I measured it with a different sti. Shifting is a little hard but overall i love the car. This was my first manual car and i did learn with this vehicle😂. It has amazing grip and raiti is honestly pretty spot on for everything. Once u get a new exhaust, it really feels 10x better! Clutch is high and u have to give gas before u let go of the clutch for the low gears.
Congrats bro! Yes i had mine for 3 weeks and your right shifting feels hard - maybe need a heavier gear knob to make shifting better. Which exhaust did you end up getting? Im getting the Invidia R400
Still a great car! Personally I like my 2015 STI wheels better, but I can see how the new rims could possible grow on you after time. I don't know why they switch to a rubber material for the arm rest. Great classic turbo fun, yes. Very excited about the 2021 model coming out the end of next year. Great review Joe on the 2020 STI!!
Joe, this is one of the most perfect cars on earth IMO. It’s practical, has four doors, a real backseat, AWD for the Northeast horrible winters. It’s reliable, great looking, fun as hell...My one big Zonk is the gas mileage. It’s horrible. Your lucky if you get 20mpg with this thing. Other than that, I just still love the WRX & the STi. Fantastic review as usual. It seems like you do several reviews per day! I can’t keep up with you!
Smiles per gallon 😁, these are amazing cars, I been test driving Gt350 and Supercharged mustangs and those just don't do it for me like the STI does. I feel comfortable in the STI, it has swagger without being too flashy.
Reliable? Spun bearings and ringlands burning out on completely stock engines with less then 20k miles comes to mind.... high maintenance is the right definition
Yo. Love the vids. One thing for your watchers. The manufacturer guidelines specifically state to break in the motor for the first 1000 miles. This means under 4k 4PMS. When you get yours be sure to break in properly if you plan to mod later. At least to stage 2. Sounds dumb but I've owned or still own every iteration of this motor. I can say it makes a huge difference in day to day reliability. If you plan to replace pistons anyway. Blow that sucker up! Lol
Yeah the Subaru WRX STi really is where it’s at. If Ford didn’t work so hard to go above and beyond making the Focus RS so great at its price point with the 350hp in their manual hatch, and Honda didn’t perfect the “Family Performance Track Car” aspect of the $35,000 Honda Type R with a 306hp FWD design that embarrasses “sports” cars more than double its price like the bmw M2 on tracks, the AWD Subaru WRX STi would be in a lot more garages 💪🔥. The Zonks only start to come in when you look to Honda and Ford’s specs and see what you get for the Subaru’s price. How in the world did Honda’s FWD Civic platform create the superior handling car with faster acceleration at 35k than Subaru’s historical AWD rally heritage? Could you imagine if Honda put Acura’s SH-AWD inside a Type R? How did Ford’s regular economy Focus platform based RS create a Hatchback that can handle more stock Horsepower and offer an AWD sensation that’s just as exciting? Mitsubishi leaving with the 2008 financial banking recession crisis has left Subaru, Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda slacking I tell ya, now Hyundai is aiming its sights onto them with their Veloster N racing division
From Central Florida - Purchased a 2019 STI in April - Black, ST shifter, PB start, Recaros. Great car. Retired so have owned many cars but nothing that feels like the STI. Looking forward to next generation and may add one so we’ll see. Wife has always had a Forester - Currently she has a 2019.
You should not go over 4k on a new sti during the first 1000 miles. If you do theres a chance your rings wont seat correctly and the car will then become an oil consumer. Great review cant wait to see the Next model.
I’m so disappointed that they discontinued the STI I wanted to get one brand new but now im gonna have to get one used not knowing how much of a beat down it was given! 🤦🏻♂️😞
The biggest let down about the car is the stock exhaust imo. A simple axle-back upgrade to my 2016 STi changed that and brought the classic rumble back to life. Other than that, best car I’ve had the privilege to own.
100! Most Subaru dealerships wont even let you take an accompanied test drive in an STi... meanwhile over at Porsche they'll give you the keys to a Carrera S and say see you in an hour.
Great review Joe and the STI is truly an amazing car I think there have been no major changes as they have a wining formula which still makes great sales. I really like the small changes year to year and although the spoiler is iconic I think I’d build it without. Keep the videos coming
@@reflexboxer2ndlt807 tell that the Honda Civic Type-R, the Focus RS or the other such hot hatches around ! The day of sedans are long gone, and I certainly will not miss them.
@@ak4939 gladly. The Weight distribution is way off. It’s science. Also I wouldn’t consider the 2014 Wrx hatch A hot hatch. A true hot hatch is the Hyundai velocity N. Or of the upcoming Corolla performance car. However I would never buy that car. A true Rally car is a sedan. For the type R and older Subaru hatches. Or any hatch it’s all just extra weight.
@@reflexboxer2ndlt807 so the Focus RS, is also not a good enough rally car for you......it being a hatch ? ;) Also, the Hyundai Veloster N is also a hatch, right ? So seems like everything we are talking about, are hatches, and not sedans !
They don't build them like that anymore... the stick, the power delivery, the hydraulic steering. The STi is one of the very few cars under $100k that really makes driving fun, on top being an all weather car. The practicality and rally heritage is just icing on the cake.
Myself being a loyal Honda Civic si driver for 5 years. I think it’s time for a change im really looking into getting a 2020 Subaru wrx Sti super cool car
Great review Joe. This is tempting. Waiting to see what the redesign is like. If I love it I will be trading in my 17 REX. If I don't, selling the stage two REX and picking up a used 18 or 19 STI. Going to go all out on upgrades either way.
In the short time you drove it. Did you feel any difference between the 2020 and your Type RA? Great video Joe! Look forward to seeing what they do with the 2021. I do think people are going to miss the EJ in the coming years though.
I hope you’re not pushing that over 4k. Believe during the first 1k miles you’re supposed to keep it under 4k RPM’s am sounded like you were much higher. I doubt it did anything but something to be aware of.
Wow raiti...great video.. as always love all the detail.. finally STI I definitely would consider..I have always loved the STI vs EVO..u really get a lot more in the sti..that being said my evos have never failed me...Subaru apparently cares about small things that matter too us.😛👍👍
I wonder how many cars you would sell if there was a “buy now” option on your videos. I think it might be a quite a few. Seems like a business model someone should exploit. Maybe a collaboration with Carvana or some else with that ship anywhere/money back guarantee car business?
Jorge Zero. RU-vid is used by broke people to replace TV, anyone with enough money to click a “buy now” button are not on RU-vid. Don’t get shit twisted, RU-vid is for those that can’t afford TV and certainly not a car.
@Riceee Balls That's really smart to lease it if you know you want to switch cars a lot. I've gotten in the negative equity trap before doing that. Not a bad choice!
@Riceee Balls I hear you, I tried a bunch of sports cars until I figured out which one I really wanted and now that I have what I'm happy with I wish I'd leased before, would have saved me money
@Riceee Balls Well corvettes aren't exactly muscle. Muscle cars to me cant handle. I owned a mustang GT and didnt like it for that reason. I prefer NA to turbo for reliability purposes and the pull down low that the corvette delivers is as much as a turbocharged punch at low rpms plus it can handle the canyons great
Hey Joe, I heard there’s going to be a Final Edition STI with Gold forged BBS wheels and a few other goodies with a limited run of 555 units! Do you know if that’s for Japan or USA? And I think only available in Blue or Black
It's Japan only. In Japan the STI has the EJ20 engine not the EJ25. It's limited to 555 cars and because demand is so high there will be a lottery. So I don't think it's going to the USA. I'm in Australia and like Japan are cars here are right hand drive and there's no word of it coming here. But like you I'm interested to see what limited options Subaru will be offering over the next year or so. Hopefully some gold wheels!
I think that's a limited edition 555 units with the legendary EJ20 engine. Subaru decided to rest the EJ20 for good... therefore, that's the 555 units to commemorate the successful wrc rally team 555. It's only for Japan.
It's just being advertised in Japan now, the WRX STI EJ20 Final Edition. With applications taken for it from October 23. No specs yet, just some glossy pictures of a prototype. It does have those lovely BBS gold rims and STI Branded Recaro seats. I would not be surprised that if it is oversubscribed, we'll be seeing an STI Final Final Version a few months later; then the Ultimate Really Final EJ20 version, as Subaru milk the demand for this car.
@@RaitisRides Yeah, it is a fuel pump, injectors, and E85 pro tune away from being a lot more peppier. That is easy stuff in the end. One of the last manual gas sedans!! Crazy.
