Today I want to share with you the parable of the fig tree. Do you understand what it means? You know, when scripture talks with word pictures, with food elements, with trees, with plants, with people, they're always word pictures to help us understand the purpose of the words and the meaning of the words. But if you don't have a fig tree in your backyard, sometimes it's difficult.
I just want to read to you the verse in Mark, and it says, “When its branch is already tender and puts forth its leaves, you know, summer is near. Even so, you too, when you see these things happening, recognize that he is near right at the door.”
So let's look at the fig tree and let's see what he's talking about. When a fig tree has green shoots, it means a new life in Christ. And as we depend on God, as we abide in him, the leaves are going to come forth and then the fruit comes. And this tree is a symbol of God returning.
God is coming back for his own. He's coming to make an end to everything that he has put in motion. And this is a fantastic way to teach our children.
You know, because summer is coming and after summer is the harvest. Always remind your children after summer is the harvest. So this is just a beautiful example.
It is also good to reflect - are you bearing fruit? Are you still these tender shoots?
Are you beyond this and already bearing fruit?
So always remember as the fig tree that Christ is coming back, he is coming back to return. And remember, there's another parable parable of another fig tree that didn't produce any fruit.
What I want to ask you, don't get caught up in this social game that's happening right now. Don't get caught up in the judgment. Don't get caught up in, the attitudes of bitterness and anger and fear. And don't be caught up in fear. You if you are a child of God, then he's got you. He wants you to be like this tree. And bear fruit because summer's coming and after summer is the harvest.
And that's what we want to teach our children. Yes. OK. So we've got a virus going on. But that doesn't mean the world's coming to an end. He wants us to stay busy. He wants us to trust him, not trust the media. My goodness. That would just drive you sick if the virus testing it in the media. Well, so, hey, let's just stay focused. Stay focused. Do not be angered. Do not be mad at other people for choosing to see this virus differently.
I want you to get into God's word. I want you to have your devotion time. I want you to know God's word, no matter what situation you're in. Those words will just come right out. Remember, greater is he that is in me. That is in you than it is in the world. Now, let's start living like it. Let's be like the fig tree that is bearing fruit.
And let's show our amazing Lord and Savior. How much we love him. Right. Don't fret. There's no reason to fret. We are in amazing days. God is good.
