I currently live in Georgia 🇬🇪 and it's been a challenge learning the language. It's such a beautiful language, but it's definitely a difficult one, especially with the lack of resources. The alphabet is very simple, the pronunciation is pretty straightforward once you get used to the sounds, but the grammar is definitely the challenge. I can't wait until I'm more proficient in it! ❤️ If there are any Georgians out there, გამარჯობა!

I am surprised to see a video like this on an otherwise good quality RU-vid channel. There is no "oldest language". All languages evolve and split into varieties over time, and all languages have ancestors. What this video shows, are some languages which can be traced back to ancestors with very old written records. That's something completely different than being the "oldest languages".

I have some doubts regarding this list. Languages change over the time. Not sure if we can call it the same language when modern speakers are not able to understand ancient version of it's own language.

I agree. Islanders could probably understand people from some 1200 years ago but few other would. Chinese languages (Yes plural) just have the same characters, not the same language.

How do you even define how old a language is? Armenian has been spoken long before Mesrop invented an alphabet for it. Hebrew separated from Phoenician when Abra(ha)m, a native Aramaic speaker, moved to Canaan. Cherokee has been written since about 1820, but as it's the only Southern Iroquoian language, it could be said to date from when Southern Iroquoian split from Northern Iroquoian.

Exactly. It's like asking "What is the oldest species in the world that is still alive today?". Well, all of them, since they all came from the same ancestor if you go back far enough. So in that sense, you could say that _every_ language alive today is "the oldest".

You can estimate by a number of things. For instance, the Georgian culture is estimated to be around 6000 years old, according to the archaeological evidence of its material continuity. So the language is likely at least that old. But probably older, becsuse most of the snxestors of Georgians have lived in Georgia for around 13,000-15,000 years. When the Georgian language began its contiguous existence, or whether it was endemic or imported to who we call Georgian people, is questionable. But we can VERY roughly estimate that it is around 6000 to 15000 years old.

It is interesting that when she was searching on oldest languages, the 3rd option was Persian/Farsi, yet she did not even mention it! why????

Languages transform gradually. It is a philosophical issue.

Modern Hebrew is insane. How did people go about reviving a language that died generations ago just using religious texts? Unless it was spoken as a scholarly language like Latin so there were accepted standards maybe but it just boggles the mind how you would get such a large group of people to agree on and work towards making something so difficult work. It seems so impractical.

except Hebrew, I doubt the rest would understand much of the ancient versions. Hebrew is a revived language as far as I know - it was like dead for thousands of years, andwas used only in prayers etc

The Albanian language spoken today is one of the oldest languages still in use. The Albanian language is a branch of its own within the branch of languages, like Greek. And I think it is older than Latin and may be older than Greek itself. It uses the shortest words for the most important meanings of everyday life. And the way the words are written (hieroglafically) has a connection with the meaning. This is seen most of all in the dialectal version of the Albanian language, the Geg dialect which is the oldest form of the Albanian language. Unfortunately this language is little known, and it began to be written late, because it is little documented in ancient inscriptions, and there are not many texts.
