Lex is now using terms like "elaborate schemes" and "very technical" in describing Metallica's music. Love it! Her guitar/violin comparison is genius. After really listening to it, I hear it 100%. Thx for all of these Metallica reactions, fans really appreciate it.

James had quite a hard upbringing... His father bailed when he was a kid. I cannot remember what age he was, but he was still a kid. And he was brought up in a Christian Science home. Where they didn't believe in doctors and god would cure anything if we just pray... Well, James' mother got cancer when James was 17... Needless to say, the praying didn't do much to slow down the disease. And his mother promptly died of it when he was 17. There is a lot of this pain reflected on various songs in the Metallica discography and this is one of the clearest example of this. That must have sucked to have that happen to him at such an early age too. Needless to say that James isn't a big fan of this Christian Science thing... Which basically killed his mom. But apart from all that pain at the core of this song, man this is one hell of a banger. One of the quickest things to exist without it collapsing into just chaos and noise...
@randyreynolds4252

@@randyreynolds4252 no he was not, his dad was a truck driver... Just checked on the Internet, it's been a while since I last really learned of this stuff. His parents divorced when James was 12. And his mom died when he was 16.
@darthyoda940
@darthyoda940 2 года назад
The bailing thing came from James himself. In a year and a half in the life of Metallica, James talks about it. The unforgiven is part of not forgiving his dad for leaving and having him feel unwanted when he was a kid. Then his mom died and he felt like everyone was leaving him in his life. His dad came back into the picture after his mom passed.

No, this isn't even close to being the fastest comprehensible song lolol. Metallica fanboys I swear.... They are pioneers not goats. They are severely overrated when bands like Sepultura and Venom were already doing the trashy thing. Metallica started out more as a punk band.

James Hetfield of Metallica wrote this aroun 1988 for their 4th album... See, he didn't write personal lyrics about his past before. But that changed after his friend & Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was killed in a tour bus accident in 1986. Already traumatized by loss in his life, Burton's death pushed Hetfield into revisiting his early traumas growing up... His parents were devoted to Christian science, where doctors & medicine were forbidden... When he got sick as a child, he had to suffer in silence. Abuse in his home was routine... he and his sister fought constantly. He was cast out amongst kids in his school. Then, his father disappeared - his parents divorced... his mom was already overwhelmed w/ her responsibilities, when she was diagnosed w/ cancer while Hetfield was a teen. She refused treatment because of her beliefs... and she died soon after. That abandonment he experienced as a minor was a bitter, tough experience growing up. Hetfield & his sister were passed to an older brother... his sister was soon kicked out... Hetfield left when he turned 18 to try make it as a musician. He was 19 when he met Lars Ulrich in '81 & formed Metallica. "Dyers' Eve" was Hetfield lashing out against his parents... Anyone (like me) who has been betrayed & abused under their parents' care can relate. I've known too many people raised by parents, who were either abused sexually or physically. Some people should not have children...

in the song momma he writes " momma she has taught me well, told me when i was young, son your life is an open book, dont close before its done". dyers eve is not actually about the christian thing in general. its about him being christian and not being able to connect with others due to the belief. its not about how his parents were. he regrets not spending more time with his mom. most think his parents were hard core religious nuts.
@bottomfeedersincorporated4077
@bottomfeedersincorporated4077 2 года назад
@@itstheotherwhitemeat No, James has outright said in interviews both Dyers Eve and The God that Failed are directly about Christian Science. Just because he feels different in maturity and decades later write a more positive song doesn’t change where he was and what he felt in the 80’s when writing Dyers Eve. And his parents were hardcore religious nuts, you keep saying Christian, but it’s not mainstream Christianity, it is Christian Science which is both a cult, and the cause of his mother’s death.

@papasilver78

It's actually a lot more than that. James was also very sheltered as a child, and was never taught how to be a man, or to think for himself. He always resented his parents, one way or another. They always hid him from anything pertaining to real life, and by the time he became independent, he was literally in the shock and fear of his life of the world in front of him. He has no idea how to react to it or what to think. He felt like he was literally held back from life.

We had this bizarre teacher for World Geography who was about 50yrs old& dressed like a cowboy, lived w/his mom & would routinely cry in class ( yeah, he was special alright🤗). Well, for some reason he thought we should see th MTV video awards & One was on there. He started & stopped it b/c he hated it & thought it was disturbing! He let us watch Sweet Child of Mine which was fine although th radio had worn that shit out back then. This guy was sooo nuts & unstable, I daydreamed & cheated th entire year & it wasn't until right before finals, 3 of us got caught cheating! Man, he screamed, threatened us & started crying again😅. He swore we would not be able to cheat on th upcoming final, that he wouldn't take his eyes off us! Well, I'm like...I'm f*cked, I'm failing this mthrfckr big time! It turned out like a miracle, dude had a nervous breakdown & missed th rest of school yr right before finals! His replacement was a guy who looked 80 & couldn't see 10 ft in front of himself! We looked @ each other & began cheating our asses off😁. He never looked up from his desk @ all. I was like " Thank you Jesus!!!" Oh sorry, I'm reminiscing about th good old days & AJ4A is my fav Metallica album by far!🍻

Everyone points out about the Christian thing, but James (the vocalist and main song writer of the band) Dad abandoned his family when he was like 12 or 13 and then his mom died of cancer when he was 16. His moms religion doesnt believe in medical science, so she withered away and died from the cancer without ever going to the hospital and getting treated for it. He then moved around to live with other family members like his older brothers after she passed away when he was 16. It could be about all of that, seems pretty rough.

Do some stuff from their first album like The Four Horsemen, Phantom Lord, Blitzkrieg, Motorbreath, etc Since Brad always seems to need to know the "meaning" of a song (even when there isn't one), don't let him react to Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit".....he might walk out of the room LOL Lex's reactions always rock.......she really knows how to enjoy music

Lex is really getting it! You can see it in her face when she understands what’s going on. And then goes off on it. A true blue Metal Head!

Lexi so gets it! She listens and appreciates the brilliance! Her motions at 2:43 prove she knows what she is hearing and she has deconstructed it mentally. What a shred listener she is. Great job Lexi!

That " Justice " album, ya have to run through it many times to absorb it , we cranked that over & over at our party house, plus Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Queensryche, Ozzy, Jeff Becks ' Guitar Shop's, lots of hair metal, sleaze metal , ( skid row, faster Pussycat, salty dog, love /hate, L.A. guns, all the shit ) !

This was a very personal song for Metallica as it was the last song that bassist Cliff Burton helped write before his untimely death in a bus accident during their European tour for Master of Puppets.
