Hee, I love this! Glinda's cute voice and informal 'daisuki'! Elphie's formal speech and their "aa, iya. eeee~" and Glinda's ridiculously fast description make this an AWESOME song.

the lyrics are totally different in Japanese than in english like when Glinda sings in english what is this feeling so sudden and new in Japanese she sings Kono Kimochi nani kashira which pretty much mean what kind of feeling is this in english when they sing "loathing, unadulterated loathing, for your face, your voice, your clothing, let's just say i loathe it all" in Japanese they say Dame, Taerarenai kirai, Iya yo, mou, subete, konoko, dai kirai,
edelric009 Yeah, you can’t translate English to Japanese and keep a coherent tune. It is utterly impossible. The fact that they managed to keep the general message comprehensible is impressive enough.
@GranitePlox Sort of. "Obaka" means "little idiot," which is the same thing that "blonde" was implying in the English version. But since blonde doesn't quite have the same stereotype in Japan that it does in the West, the joke wouldn't have translated.
Are you really trying to using Google Translate as solid fact in an argument? Putting お in front of a word = making it more polite, basically. It's an honorific.
@NoPlanetStudios That's not quite true. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is one of the most widely translated books of all time. It is even bigger in other countries than it is in the US.
She says "Little Idiot" Adding "ko" or occassionally "o" makes something little in Japanese. Simillar to ito/ita in spanish. Hermano= Brother Hermanito= Little Brother Baka=Idiot Obaka= Little Idiot
but you're going out of your way to try to correct someone, when 1) you don't personally know any better than them, and 2) everyone knows that online translators are inaccurate.
Google Translate isn't always correct, but dumb, fool and idiotic are all synonyms anyway. I remember asking my Japanese teacher about it. I think it's safe to say that we all know the meaning of the word though!
And drop the stereotypes and lose the hat and green make up be authentic to this story with real elements such as friendship and the goddess of the faith of and see do research on us wiccans before you act.
What the fuck are you talking about? This is a story based on The Wizard of Oz. It’s SUPPOSED to be a stereotypical witch appearance. Plus her appearance is important to the plot. Her green skin is part of what drives her to her extremist actions, her hat and “witchy” cloak were given to her by Glinda, her best friend, in the book only her apparent allergy to water is NOT a cakewalk, and this ENTIRE musical (and book) is all about why Elphaba’s stereotypical “witchiness” And perceived “evilness” is entirely unfitting. I don’t think you’ve even seen the musical.
