i had one of these put in my neck last year. i don't have in anymore, it left an ugly scar on my neck but i'm extremely grateful that it's gone. to me the trach symbolizes a period in which my life turned into a nightmare. good luck to those who are dealing with this themselves, or have a family member that is

I just wanna say a huge thank you for the video. My dad was in the ICU with a 5% chance of survival. He beat it and is now in a normal room. Along the way he had to get the trachestomy. This was a great way for me to figure out more about it and that it really can be removed! Thank you and I will be sharing this video with my family.

I looked this up to see what was done to me a in April 2021 when I was in the ICU with covid-pneumonia. I recovered and it's been a year. I was in the ICU for 6 weeks then went to a nursing home/rehab because my muscles had atrophied (shrunk up) due to lack of use and I couldn't even sit on my own yet. 4 weeks later exactly I was discharged with a walker and I'm using it less and less now.🙌

Anyone have experience with the Passy Muir Speaking Valve? After a few short months my 77-year-old sister is hardly able to use it anymore because it irritates her throat. Sad. Could this have been due to treatment shortcomings? Such as insufficient humidification or suctioning. Or is this to be expected with frequent use over a few months? I really miss our phone calls.

I had a trach and still have the scar on my throat. After watching this I must have had the trach placed down lower since my scar is really low on my neck. People used to have to read my lips since I was a quadriplegic at the time. I would stick my tongue out every time i wanted to deflat the cuff so i could talk for a little while.

I'm in the middle of a passing the buck game between the ent and the pulmonologist as to which one of them should be taking steps towards decannulation me. Pulmonologist said ent should do it and the ent says that the pulmonologist needs to do testing to see if I'm even a candidate for decannulate. I just got back from the ent who told me to bring a fenestrated size 4 in order to start capping it BUT then said he didn't know that I use a "fancy machine" aka non invasive ventilator at night and I would not be able to use the machine with the fenestrated trache. So, I got nothing done today but aggravation and I have the same stinking trache in for 6 months! Iswear I am ready to decannulate myself . As of that ent appt. I took my oxygen off....I dont care anymore.

A 41-year-old man who was involved in a serious car accident and suffers from facial trauma is rushed to the emergency room and an extensive neck, including a fractured jaw, several broken teeth and a walking cervical hematoma and grew up Two intubation attempts failed due to extensive bleeding and a change in anatomy (due to the fractures). The attempt at breathing with a balloon was unsuccessful due to airway resistance to pressing the balloon. How is it best to treat this patient now? 1) 100% oxygen mask 2) Oxygen goggles until another intubation attempt can be made 3) Cricothyroidotomy 4) Tracheostomy
