the traction stat controls how much you slip in mk8dx, on slippery road. turning is controlled by the handling stat, and there is no off-road stat for slow surfaces like grass.
The in-game stats for slippery road only say dirt, ice, and snow. But almost every single dirt surface is not slippery, and they didn't even include roads made of rain. Thanks, Nintendo 👍
I think the confusion over the offroad speed is due to Off-road being a stat in MK7 and prior but MK8 seemingly changed it to Traction. IIRC in older games Offroad had a similar slippery-road function to Traction in 8 but also increased your speed when off the track for any reason, which even allowed some kart combos to even continue a drift and charge a mini turbo while in the dirt.
Mostly correct, but you got one fact wrong! 1 speed does *not* equal 6 grip, it actually equals 3! So you accidentally halved the impact grip has on your speed in slippery terrain 😅 In other words, Yoshi Streetle is 1 speed faster than Yoshi Teddybuggy on slippery terrain (unless it's _also_ anti-gravity such as half of Cheeseland, then Streetle is much slower lol)
I think I've calculated correctly, but let me know if you have different info. I found info saying that 20 traction = +1% speed. Meanwhile, I already know that 20 speed = about +6-7% speed (depending on the combo). So that's where my 6:1 ratio comes from
@@Shortcat321 I'll use an illustrative example. A classic Yoshi Teddybuggy combo has 8 speed and 11 grip (I use this word just to write 4 letters less lol). Substitute Teddybuggy for the Streetle, and you will have the exact same speed (on ground), but 14 grip, 3 more than Teddybuggy. Let's just say they're always at 10 coins. At 8 speed, this equals a speed of 8.150 units according to the wiki. For "BrakeRt_SAND" terrain, this value gets multiplied by 0.981 at 11 grip, and 0.984 at 14 grip. So the resulting values of effective speed are respectively: 8.020 (11 grip) 7.995 (14 grip) Difference: 0.025 This is rounded to 4 digits of course, but that's because those 4 digits are the important ones - 0.025 (the extra speed from 3 extra grip) is exactly the value of 1 *level* of speed. Maybe the mistake you made, is confusing this with the value of 1 *coin* of speed, which is 0.050 - equal *2* levels, or as you said in the video, *6* levels of grip. So in slippery road, 3 grip lvl = 1 speed lvl = 0.5 coins. Or alternatively, 1 coin = 2 speed lvl = 6 grip lvl. So again, I think you accidentaly mistaked the values for speed levels and coins. I think making a pinned comment explaining the mistake would be informative. It's not a crucial mistake, but still 😅
According to “mariowiki”: theBrakeRt_ICE terrains have a multiplier that is, at all traction levels, -0.01 that of BrakeRt_SAND. For example, while 20 traction can fully increase BrakeRt_SAND’s multiplier to 1 (it doesn’t exist basically), it can only increase BrakeRT_ICE’s multiplier to 0.99 This shouldn’t matter, though: every point of traction always preserves 0.001, or 0.1%, of your “true speed” on any slippery terrain, by increasing the multiplier of slippery road by 0.001 6 traction preserves 0.6% of your “true speed”, which is also around the increase of 10% of max coins, and therefore also around the increase of 10% of max speed stat, or 2 speed. On the “max traction” video was a comment chain by Bayzer0191, mentioning traction’s speed effect on slippery roads, where Shortcat mentions that 2-3 points of traction are worth around 1 pount of speed. Finally, some questions related to speed: How does blooper ACTUALLY interact with traction: people keep saying it reduces your traction stat but then it should never matter on normal roads right? Does the Bullet Bill use different speed stats depending on whether you are on a water, glider, or anti-gravity section? If so, does it change which speed stat it uses if it changes section (say it starts on an anti-gravity section, goes into a glider section, then into a ground section, does it just use anti-gravity speed the whole way through? Just ground speed? Or all three speed types?
I wish online would be like X-1 randomized. So like first race, driver and cart random, pick your tires Next race, cart and tires random, pick driver And the course should be AFTER your draw and pick
You actually learned me a Big thing. I want to thank you a lot. I would really like you to play with you. I Always play this game and YOU are the perfect person to teach me things and to play with at this game.💯💯🤩🤩🤩 Please, allow me to play with you even if I am not good as you 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 😖😖😖😖😖😖😖
I noticed that you used “😭” in your comment. Just wanted to say, don’t give up anything in your life. I don’t know what you’re going through but always keep going.
@@Shortcat321 Bah! Ba- 🔥💥💥🔥 Speaking of death, you should try to beat Mario Kart, but you have 3 lives. Getting hit by normal items like shells bananas, etc. will take one life off, but lightning takes half a life. And every time you beat a race without dying, your lives get replenished.
What about freaking sand? I don’t know if I’ve just been at the wrong beaches my whole life but sand has never been a slippery thing conceptually or in practice
@@TheOneWhoMends because you don't have tyres for feet. If you tried driving on sand, you'd immediately see why sand isn't a grippy material for vehicles.
Me: So what is slippery road? Shortcat: Roads made if Snow and Ice Me: makes sense Shortcat: mud and Sand Me: How is that..? Nevermind... Shortcat: Road made of RAIN Me: but how is road made of... Shortcat: OH, AND ALSO CHEESE
I didn’t realize the part about how you actually get a slight speed boost with a lot of traction on slippery road. Though, is it a speed boost? Or do you actually lose speed on slippery road in general and the traction stat determines how much or little you lose?
Yup, got it right. "Sand" road reduces your speed by 0-2% and "ice" road reduces your speed by 1-3%, with both of these values depending on your traction. If you go *off* road, this slow is obviously much larger, but also unaffected by traction. Do note, that Shortcat got one fact wrong. 6 traction doesn't equal 1 speed stat on slippery road - it equals 2! So it's more accurate to say 3 traction = 1 speed (when on slippery road).
i know a bunch of stuff about this game so heres some video ideas: "Is there an Offroad stat?" Kinda. It isn't even a stat, so what effects it? Acceleration and speed are factors, but in offroad, acceleration makes it faster and speed can diminish how fast you go. "Can you SKIP this?" Everyone knows about the big anti gravity section on GBA Mario Circuit. Can you skip it? Not yet. But someone by the name of McGogy (me, i have a video on my phone i can send to you for footage) almost did. Watch this: (shows footage) That's huge! "What is edgeclipping?" In Mario Kart, walls are walls, and floors are floors, unless you do this technique (shows edgeclip + vine boom). The best combo for this is Donkey Kong on the Jet Bike with the Monster wheels and any glider. Back up by tapping B until you almost fall off and then hold A. it is pretty precise, but the tall ramps on excitebike arena are good ways to practice. Jopes goes more in depth so check it out!
Wait what. I have done a lot of research on stats but I have never heard of the +1 speed bonus for every 6 traction. Did I miss it on the wiki or smth?
I have a question: why does the world record uses the cushion tires and not the sponge tires? Is the bouncy effect from the cushion tires somehow useful?
A misleading stat that does nothing on half the tracks deserves to be displayed, but the Mini-Turbo stat? The most important stat in the game? Nah, let's keep that hidden.
