Ultrasound is the use of sound waves to build images of the body.
The operator will place a transducer against the skin. The transducer sends sound into the body and receives echoes.
A computer generates images from that information.
A gel is placed between the transducer and the skin to provide a better image.
An ultrasound study may take 10 to 15 minutes, or up to 45 minutes, depending on what they are looking at and what the issues are.
