Not sure how I missed this video? But I have to say, it was super interesting to see the difference in hooves between the cows and bulls on a farm, and those out in nature. I never, in a million years thought I would become obsessed with cows hooves! lol I am a 54 year old woman that has spent my whole life in Metro Detroit, U.S.A. And have never even seen a cow in person! But I LOVE your videos!! I love the way you guys get along, and make work fun, and I really love the way you care for the animals! Its obvious that, while hoof trimming is your job, It is also your calling! You are a natural with the animals, and your care for them truly shows!! Thanks for sharing!! Love from the U.S. ❤❤

As an Aussie, my experience is probably between yours and thus farm. We have muddy grassy regions but even our mud tends to be course and gritty instead of loamy. And of course we have a decent amount of granite. Then the dry red regions are largely iron rich dry sun-baked clay.

@carlorielmendez6505
@carlorielmendez6505 Год назад
Tried reading on google, but for humans, dermatitis isn't contagious. All his digital dermatitis vids use salicylic acid powder and/or iodine wash so I guess that helps with preventing infection, since only open wounds are at risk of serious infection and if the trim didn't reach wounded parts, then infection wouldn't pierce through hoof keratin.

Where I grew up in Idaho, there were a lot of free range cattle that wandered about and were gathered in (by helicopter in some instances) basically just once a year. Hello Graeme, Finn Mcmichal could use some assistance in getting a video out because Katie is off to boarding school. We just love Farming Files. Trim on!!!

This just answered a question I had. You CAN lift both rear feet at once.

@@Bennicilline I may have not seen right but I think it's two belts that go in front of the udder and under the front legs. I've seen trimmers using the same crush lifting all 4 at once so they'd need more than one if I'm not mistaken.

Tell Craig that I woreout a many Percy Sledge pink 8-track tapes back in the Seventies riding and drinking on the backroads of Southeast Texas !!!! I don't think I ever heard anyone that could sing When A Man Loves A Woman , Cover Me , and all the songs he sang as good as he could , he put his heart and soul into everything he did !!!!!

I had never tho't of the big difference between dairy and beef cows due to environment. Thank you for showing and explaining that to us.

To be fair you can run dairy cattle on pasture too but you might not get the same yield and would need far more land than feed lot production.

That farm must be close to an Army Base or a Training Area. There’s a Tank Crossing sign.

Graeme, do these cows actually have thicker hoof walls than we usually see, or does it just appear that way because they're not trimmed as often? (In the first couple of cows you trimmed, it looked like the border around the sole was a lot wider than usual.) If it really is thicker, is it because they're beef cattle, or because they're "field-grown"?
