I am a mother of four, who also works from home. And aside from keeping a routine and structure to my day/week...I find prayer (meditative, guided, and adoration) as my recreation time. If we find the time, if we make the time. Teaching kids to not be in the Rat Race is essential, and simply stopping and praying the Angelus was a turning point for my kids. NOTHING is so important to stop and give praise to God, or even ask for the intercession os the Blessed Mother.

Sadly, the concept of "work-life balance" assumes an unnecessary division of "work" and "life".

Yup. Part of my vocation is my work, which seemed reduced as a desire for money in this podcast. If we are called to work, as seen in Genesis before the fall, then why can’t we find life’s satisfaction in our service to others through our work? I think “work-rest” distinction is better, which was sort of implied.

I kind of got out of the modern "I have to be working all the time" hole. It has been great for my health, but i am a phd student, so I still have a lot required of me from work. It has been hard for me ReDiscover what my work is in the context of my entire life in such a way that I am motivated to do it.

I don't think work is like a drug. I think the demands of raising a large family are huge, and if you have responsibilities for a big work project with a deadline, how do you say, "Sorry. Work life balance."

My husband and I got caught up in the hectic American life. He worked a bazillion hours in construction while I raised 6 children and home schooled and taught other home school students. When I say I had no recreation, I mean it. I was drowning. We didn't seem to have money to hire help, and all my friends were overwhelmed and overworked mothers. I suffered neurological problems for years that Im sure was the result of overwork. I was trying very hard to do my duty to serve God and my family, but if I could go back in time I would beg my husband to work less so he could be more involved with us. And I would trust that God would keep us afloat.

An excellent and timely topic here are some things I have created to help me "unplug" from work: choose a physical object to be a landmark and after you pass that landmark you train yourself to think of something other than work. When at work, checking my cell phone at all, focus 100% when at work and when I'm off then 100% attention to the task at hand or resting. I love embroidery and it requires me to focus on the pattern and has become almost meditative, I advocate everyone should create something once a day. Lastly, a friend told me decades ago, I don't have to come home exhausted to feel I've earned my paycheck. God bless you both and all who make these videos possible. My nickname for all of you is "The Boys" because when I first saw your videos, I thought you were all in your 20s. :)

@@fragwagon What are you talking about? You accept a biblical exegesis that, for example, denies the miracle of the loaves and fishes and even the bodily Resurrection? In seminary, I was taught that the Church no longer believes in miracles. You can readily see that Pope Francis doesn't either

@@carolynkimberly4021 no, Melon Usk running it ruined it. Ppl speaking on Twitter is integral to its purpose. Melon Usk running Twitter IS NOT THE SAME as allowing people to speak. One is free... the other has cost billions, thrown elections overseas due to bots, and jeopardizes the livelihoods of journalists, because they depend so heavily upon it.
