St. Louis has made BAD free agent signings and I believe they are in big trouble for the upcoming season. Sonny Gray, Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson are aging vets who wont get the Cardinals to a championship. Sonny Gray is coming off a top cy young voting season which makes him the best signing in recent memory! I hope you all enjoy the content!

Mo is too busy stuffing his pockets with money saved, and Oli doesn't know how to lead men, and has no respect from them for this reason.

Don't be disappointed. Sometimes you feel like Red Lobster but can only afford a fish sandwich at McDonald's. If you're hungry enough, the fish sandwich is just as good. That's my only issue. The Cards, over the last few years, don't seem very hungry.

I feel like perhaps the biggest problem is lack of scouting, coaching, and development in pitching. Sure, we need a better rotation. We can go out and get another piece or two. But do we have confidence that the arms we have can get better or become more effective? Liberatore got jerked around last year because there was no plan. Just throw stuff against the wall and see if it sticks. There is something bigger going on here but I'm not sure what it is. I just know something is wrong.

Lynn had an ERA near 6 between his time with the CWS and LA and gave up 44 HR’s to lead MLB. Gibson had an ERA near 5 with the Orioles. With the Cards poor defense (25th in MLB) and their sloppy base running and very poor hitting neither Gibson or Lynn will do well for St Louis. Gray had a good year last season with a fine ERA but over the past 5 years he’s only 6 games above 500. That’s not real great. If the Cards don’t get more help in the rotation and the bullpen don’t expect them to do better than 4th. That should really infuriate Cards fans.

I don’t expect the Cardinals to have a good year! I’m a Cards fan, it’s frustrating to me that like you said we are signing guys that give up a ton of HR’s and have high ERA’s. There are so many better players we could go get! Thanks for the comment I appreciate it!

Agree about Brandon Woodruff. The Brewers failed to give him a qualifying offer in November. The Cardinals (aka Mozeliak) does not use the little money that DeWitt gives him wisely. I would've loaded up on Sonny Gray, Brandon Woodruff and either get a bargain deal for a Trevor Bauer, Michael Wacha or a Seth Lugo type. Or, plan B, make a trade for Dylan Cease. You could have a rotation where Sonny Gray (34) is your oldest pitcher, instead of 3rd youngest. Imagine, 1. Gray, 2. Woodruff, 3. any one of Bauer, Wacha, Lugo, Cease, (at the top of your rotation). And they could've done it with about the same money spent on Gray, Lynn and Gibson. Maybe an extra 10 million, but we've shed O'Neill's, Knizers, Hudson's salaries, so why not?

I love and appreciate this comment! This is really the main goal I’m trying to get across! Why not give woodruff a shot he is good when healthy and we did get rid of some contracts. I believe it’s still possible for the cards to get cease but I think the move for him should have been done before trading Tyler O Neil! I appreciate your comment on the video! Bauer is coming off a great season in Japan and he was cleared of everything he was accused of. I don’t see why he shouldn’t get a chance and I would love if it was with the cards!

@@The_Midwest_Slugger yeah. unfortunately, Mo was asked (off the record) about Bauer.... and he flat out said "No." SMH, the Cards have limited funds, but won't even give a legit #1 (Bauer) who is a sure-fire discount, a shot.

Offseason's been disheartening. Seems like Mo's gambling that the team could be closer to the '22 version than the '23. THEN if that's the case, I would think they would STILL need another SP BEST-CASE Scenario....just like they ended up dealing for 2 that season (Quintana & Jor. Montgomery). People have been talking about the Mariners ALL going into this offseason........and they've been VERY MUCH Unreceptive. They seem to be the EXACT OPPOSITE of the Cardinals - - - I'd FULLY expect a deal between the two come mid- to late July esp. if both are close but the Cardinals need a Pitching Boost and the M's need an Offensive Boost. I honestly think that the M's would be willing to trade ANY of their SPs by that point time w/ the exception of L. Castillo & G. Kirby..............so basically ANY of Robbie Ray, Logan Gilbert, Bryce Miller or Woo. I think it would all depend on how the rotation is shaking out.....i.e., MAYBE Matz or Mikolas LOOKS to be adequately filling in the 2-hole.....then wouldn't have to try to concoct the trade for Robbie Ray (if they're not? Then a pursuit of Ray may be the best move)..........otherwise, to get a No. 2 type in the No. 3 hole would be looking right back to L. Gilbert trade again......who so many experts have connected to the Cardinals for like the last 8 - 9 mos. now!!!

I Agree signing Lynn and Gibson was bad but I think they can do well but arenado needs to bounce Gorman be the primary second baseman and focus on defense back if they get one or two guys for the pen I think it’ll be fine especially because even though Lynn and Gibson are bad they did have more quality starts last year than most of our starters so they should have to be used less personally I think they should give Thompson a chance to take one of those two spots in the rotation and keep Libby in the minors he has the stuff to be good and he’s still young no point in giving up on him and I also could see mcgreevy, graceffo, or rom joining the rotation throughout the season overall the team is betting on too many things to work out and I’m hoping they do but it’s just not a great way to go about the season hopefully we’ll see a signing of Monty or a trade for Gilbert and have a rotation of Gray, someone new, mikolas, matz, and one of Gibson or Thompson and move Lynn to the bullpen because I think help could be effective there even though he’d be way overpaid
@KevinHuffman-m6h
@KevinHuffman-m6h 9 месяцев назад
I have it the other way around. Liberatore has looked better in the 'pen. Zach FINALLY started to show some promise in the rotation late last season......I'd have him as one of the SPs down at Memphis to start this season.

I said this last year and was screaming it this year too, a perfect logical trade that could have happened and would have benefited two mediocre teams, ready for this. Block buster trade. Exciting, affordable, and makes too much sense. Cardinals get Shane Bieber and Emmanuel clase. Guardians get,Carlson, edman, what could have been oniel, with Ivan Herrera Matthew liberatore. It would have solved our catcher log jam, outfield and infield log jam. We get an ace and a closer, They get two outfielder which they definitely need, Carlson has high upside still, oniel has high upside, they need a shortstop, edman, Ivan could literally start catcher for them. And they get a lot of years of control with those players. And they get what would be a #3 starter for them. Have a chance to add to all of there holes on there team. And if they wanted a another prospect, we through them #11 Travis honeyman in case Carlson or oniel shits the bed again. Players we dfad could have went in this deal too. Yepez a great dh option for the Guardians. Dak pitching depth. Payroll fits for both sides. For us victor Scott could come up and play the outfield, or we move donavon to left and noot to center. And burleson who was snubbed of countless hits this year just straight bad luck due to his immaculate hard hit percentage could play dh vs righties then luken baker vs lefties. I could be out of my mind but to me this trade should have been a no brainer, done deal for both sides.

MO doesnt know what hes doing, he's doing, get rid of him and get rid of manager. They had there chance and they are waiting to long to sign or go after the pitchers or players they need or wanted. Then some other team comes along and they sign with another team. Now its a record contract and now the other players we are interested in heard the amount that player got now the other players we want, is going to go up and hes worrying about signing some of the other players contracts that are coming up, what are tgey going to want. Plus sometimes I think its all ridged, i believe they already know who they want to win it next year.
@The_Midwest_Slugger
@The_Midwest_Slugger 9 месяцев назад
Waiting to long is correct. There were still the same caliber or better pitchers when we signed,Lynn and Gibson just confusing why they don’t jump on players quicker so there value doesn’t go up by another team offering a record contract.

I think at best, Mo is clueless. I think last year Mo gave certain key players the "order 66". Fun fact: Lynn and Gibson gave up half their homers last year in the batters' first AB against them. Oli is Mo's golden child, so Mo won't fire him and his questionable pitching coaches, as we saw last year. Mo is Bill's sweetheart, so he won't get fired either. As far as management goes, we are a complete dumpster fire. It has to start with Bill.

Teams like the Cardinals screw themselves because they don't know when to rebuild. They have a couple guys like Walker they could start to build around, they SHOULD have gone out and tried to trade away Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado who are NOT going to be guys you want on the roster by the time the Cardinals are in contention again, and got some top tier prospects and guys right on the cusp of being everyday starters. They shouldn't have given out any major contracts to players over 25. They could have put themselves in a position to be World Series contenders in 2-3 years. Instead they are wasting time and money building around a core of guys who are half not ready and half past their prime, signing guys like Lynn who was good 3 years ago and guys like Sonny Grey who would be a GREAT fit for a team looking to win it all in the next 2 years but that's NOT the Cardinals. The biggest reason franchises get stagnation is GMs who either don't understand where their roster is at, or who give in to pressure from fans on the internet and go sign guys like they are going to be playing for a ring when they just are not. Instead of building a team that could be great in '25-'26 they are going to waste money and another year and not get any closer to winning it all.

Can’t just spend for the most expensive guys with the highest ceilings. That’s just ignoring the problems for talent. Snell honestly would be one of the worst signings the cards could do price considering. He is extremely spotty and walks a TON and typically doesn’t not pitch as deep into games as most big league pitchers today, mix that with our less than reliable bull pen and that would be one huge waste of cash if he doesn’t repeat one of his cy young years. Sunny is an absolute great pick as he will always give our offense (which was actually pretty good and talented last year) a chance to win. Monty would be the only other guy I’d want to sign as a starting pitcher at this point (expect for Trevor bauer). Then I believe signing back hicks and or signing hader would put us into World Series mix again. Signing snell or Yamamoto would’ve killed that possibility
@The_Midwest_Slugger
@The_Midwest_Slugger 9 месяцев назад
I agree with what you’re saying I’m just an annoyed cards fan. Really my point with bringing up guys like Snell is just to point out how much of a gap in talent we are missing. Lance Lynn and Kyle Gibson are not good. Jordan Montgomery would be a guy we should have brought back for sure. My point is just that the cardinals go out and sign three guys and think they address the problem when in reality we are still far away from addressing it. I appreciate your comment though!

@@The_Midwest_Slugger While arenado and Goldie are exiting there prime we want to win now, getting a guy who won’t even pitch the next season is pointless. Gibson and Lynn are fine and tbh this actually seemed like a good grab by Mo, have you seen the market, actually smart to just since two reliable guys (1 had like 18 wins and the other like 200 k, so some talent can be seen plus Lynn was a cy young candidate like two years ago) for as cheap as we did. Sunny gray is fantastic and they seem to still be going after someone else. We aren’t gonna win t he World Series but the cardinals plan has always been just get to the post season, and I think Mo is accomplishing that rn

Sorry but I strongly disagree with you. While none of these moves are the sexiest, they give us a much better chance to win than anyone we had last year and any of our internal options. Would you rather have lance lynn or Kyle Gibson pitch 6 innings with 3 earned runs or the likes of drew rom, Dakota Hudson, Jake Woodford etc going 3 innings 5 earned runs? These starting pitching signings vastly improve the floor of this starting rotation. Signing Josh Hader for 100 + mil (that’s what he’s asking for) is a not a smart move and b something the cardinals would never do. The young internal options you mention (most notably tink hence who I like a lot) are not ready to pitch in the big leagues in 2024 and you can’t rely on young guys who might help you, hence why it’s 1 year deals for Lynn and Gibson. And before you come at me for “blindly defending Mo” or whatever that’s not what I’m doing, I’ve been very critical of him myself, but you can’t convince me these moves didn’t at the very least improve this team from the disaster we saw last year. With that being said I would still like to see them bring in one front line starter to be a true ace, which is still on the table, but calling these moves a disaster is a giant reach

I think the video originator is downtrodden that the acquisitions ONLY DEAL w/ this year....two of the three on one-year deals and seem unlikely that they'd want them MORE than this year (though I think there were club options)......but not someone that you might have a bit longer term (i.e., as would be the case w/ say an Ed.
