As an Icelandic who moved to America in middle of High School, I can relate to a lot of what you went through, going mute, relating to literally anyone who has a different background or comes from a different country and also being wayyyyyyy more open minded. Love this, keep making videos girl
I didn't realize how much others would relate to my video. I really feel you on the whole going mute thing. It's tough moving to a new country! Thank you for your lovely comment 💛
I’m half Norwegian too and we both have the same first names!💫 I have family here in Norway but because I grew up abroad and only did high school here I don’t have a huge amount of Norwegian friends. But the few Norwegian friends that I do have are amazing friends! I get a long really well with other Norwegians who’ve travelled extensively abroad or lived abroad. I believe that’s the key! I’m sorry your teenage years at a norsk school were challenging but whatever doesn’t kill you just makes you stronger! 🔥 Being multicultural is your flex!
I love your vulnerbility in this video Christina. I love getting to know you more in depth and in some parts of the video I wanted to just hug you. I would love seeing more of this kind of videos. Where we get to know YOU
Hey Vanessa! 😊 I'm so glad I made this more vulnerable video. I think a lot of people can relate. Like you said, you even experience not fitting in because of regional differences! I didn't even think that was a thing, but it makes so much sense, especially moving to a new place with a different dialect than everyone else. It's so difficult figuring out where we belong, especially after moving. 💛
❤😂🎉🎉🎉 Hi Christina 😊, So very happy to see you again!!! Ive missed you! I can appreciate your openess and vulnerability!!! I am Dutch American. Lived in both places and even did 2nd grade in the Netherlands. We spoke both languages but mostly English at home. So, i speak dutch but also have a huge accent in dutch. Ive lived in different countries due to being in the Army and live here in America. I am related to about 19 folks in all of America. I can relate to almost all of your video. I never fit in either and get the SAME questions, say something in dutch. You are doing just fine sweetheart and just keep moving forward. Being a people reader and your intelligence will get you far in life and are way ahead of most folks. Keep your head up and be VERY proud of yourself!!!! To me, thats the only crowd you need to fit in!!!😊 I hope you are well and its SO nice to see you again!!! P.s.i love your sweater ❤🎉 Hope you have a happy day and God bless!!!
Hey countrygirl! thank you so much for your lovely comment! So cool that you are also multicultural, I feel a little less alone 💛 Which other countries have you lived in for the Army? Is it mostly in Europe? Also, I've missed posting videos, it feels good to be posting again. My mom actually knitted this sweater for me! The design is a traditional Norwegian pattern. Hope you also have a lovely, happy day 💛
@@chrissyhiking Thank you for your kind response!! Your mom made that sweater with love!! That's why it looks so good!! Thanks for asking, I lived mostly in Germany, but traveled all over to Denmark, Belgium, Netherlands and France. All over America and Hawaii too. Where all have you been? Don't feel alone, most intelligent folks often get misunderstood, and you are extremely Intelligent!! Thanks for making my day by responding, hope u have a happy day too!! God bless!!
Wow you've been to many places! Very cool! I've been to a few countries in Europe, but there's a lot of the US that I haven't explored that I would love to explore one day (especially Montana, Alaska, and Idaho). 💛🌞
Living in Scandinavia is like wasting your life, you just work and work and nothing more. Society built here that way! If you don't work, you are not a person and everyone just turns away from you and no one tries to ask you if you need help! If ... Honestly, very selfish people in Scandinavia, it's the same as being a slave under your own life 😞
Hey! Scandinavia has a lot of positive things, but it sure is a long way from being perfect! I was jobless for a long time and needed help. While I was trying to expand my social network, a lot of people made me feel worthless for not working. Thankfully, these people aren't in my life anymore and I ended up landing a great job! I hope you're doing well wherever you are! Thanks for watching 😊
That picture at 0:45 is from Baroniet in Rosendal isn’t it? We used to live there for several years when I was a kid. ..In Rosendal that is. Not Baroniet. 😅 I like your channel! Good content. 👍
Thank you for an honest revealing conversation. You are being helpful to those who bridge two cultures. Humans are still very tribal. We are suspicious of people from another tribe. A few of us however delight in your diversity. Keep up your videos.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I think it's a topic a lot of people can related to, especially the struggles of "fitting in". Thank you for your lovely comment! 💛
You should set up an email for this channel. The comments section isn't long enough sometimes. What a stunning country you live in. And America is so vast and stunning too. Great video 😊
That's a great idea! I've been considering setting up a mailing list or something similar so it's easier for you guys to reach out to me and receive updates from me. Thanks for watching and hope you have a great day Maverick 😊
I'm a Norwegian American! My grandparents on my dad's side were Norwegian. I even have family in Norway! Unfortunately, I don't have the multicultural heritage and experiences like you do. I look at you and I think you're very lucky. It breaks my heart to hear that you're not well received in Norway. :( I'd be interested in hearing more of your story. :)
Yay, another fellow Norwegian American! I agree that I'm very lucky to have experienced both cultures. Even though it was tough coming to Norway as a teenager, it's made me a stronger person. Thank you so much for watching! I'm planning on publishing more videos about Norwegian culture 😊
I can relate to your experience. I am half French half American, my mom in French and my dad is American. I grew up in the states and I moved to France as an adult. I definitely don't fit in, in the states and get reverse culture shock going there but I am not an immigrant here(in France) as I was raised in French culture by my mom and have French citizenship since I was born, but I also didn't grow up here so there is no real place I can fit in or people that share my experience. Despite that I am very happy to be of these two cultures and nations, it gives me a unique experience
Hey Sydney! Wow, it sounds like we've had very similar experiences 😊 Isn't it so strange experiencing reverse culture shock? It's like the version of America I knew as a kid is not the same version I see now as an adult. I also agree with you, I'm so happy I get to experience two cultures! I'm glad I can see the world through different cultural lenses.
@@chrissyhiking yeah I totally agree with you. It's like the more I go back to the states, the less I want to go back. I only really go there for the people. I am curious to know more about your experience living in Norway. I was considering moving there because I love the mountains and being out in nature. But I do hear Scandinavian people are a bit in their own circles like you said and it is expensive. And yeah it's really cool to find someone online with a similar experience to me 😊
I also go to the states to visit friends and family, I try to visit them once a year 😊 I LOVE how beautiful Norway is, especially during the summers. Yeah Scandinavian people are a bit cold, but once you make a friend, you have a friend for life 💛
I'm glad my video resonated with you 💛 It's so hard to feel like you fit in, especially when you just don't fit into "one box". I'm planning on publishing more videos about this topic if you're interested 😊
Omg what a great video! ♥️ 🍓enjoyed this so much! You really had me hooked all the way till the end! I think this topic of video is just so interesting and has so much value! Love seeing more of this! 🔥 I don’t have a similar back ground, I’m just swiss and this video made me appreciate this “clarity” a lot, never something i had to question! I have lived in London for a year and also in Rome and i totally agree with you, it’s such a huge learning experience and just opens your eyes to different ways of culture and life in general! Even tho it’s always been a struggle to find your place in a new country i absolutely love how much i can grow from it as a person and i can’t wait to move abroad again! In Switzerland it’s hard to make friends too, especially for foreigners i think, we’re also the type of people that stick with childhood friends but we are very open to making new friends (contrary to what a lot of people think!) we just have a slow and steady approach! But then usually friendships last bc they’re not superficial ! Here the trick is to join clubs/groups like sports teams or craft clubs or scouts etc, and then from there it’s much easier 🌞 The standard q for swiss People is: oh how expensive is Xyz?! Or everyone thinks it’s just mountains and we only eat fondue 😂🫠 cooler facts people should know in my opinion: We have 7 Presidents, 3 of them women! We have 4 official languages (most speak at least two but not all) French, Swissgerman, Italian and Romansh (which is soo beautiful but slowly dying) ✨🐸 X Joy
Hey Joy! 😊 I'm so glad you enjoyed my video! I felt like the topics in this video needed to be put out there, seeing as many people have experienced troubles with fitting in after moving. Norwegians also have a slow and steady approach to making friends, and that's why once you are friends with a Norwegian, you will be friends for life 😍 Those are some really good tips! I've been active in my local hiking group, and I've found that to be a great way to meet like-minded people. 💛
I'm thinking of making more videos like these, like longer sit-downs about culture. Is there anything, any topic, you would like me to make a video about? 😊
I work whit many cultures, In constuction in Norway. I have never heard anyone ask these stupid quesions. are we in the 1800? is it the habitat you are in? I'm very sorry to hear it. This is stupid. We are a sailor country gone fare and wide. We have the web of information, and can talk to anybody. You see more than me and maybe you are right. But i agree Norway is not right. so its the mountais, far away sea or færøyene.
Unfortunately there are a lot of stupid people out there asking stupid questions haha. But also people don't realize what it's like being multicultural until they actually move to another country. I just hope to meet more open-minded Norwegians! 😊
