a good interview - Steve is clearly a professional presenter, with multiple skills and abilities (including his football). He has an uncanny ability to help people understand how to make themselves rise above the median and bring out the best in themselves, be it on a football pitch, or in a lecture / conference hall. Keep it going!
Max I enjoyed most of your interviews, and this one is a standout. Well done and keep this up. Steve’s stories are hugely intriguing and you did a good job teasing them out from Steve.
Why is it that long term residents who seek to stay in Singapore shy away from the immigrant moniker. As an Aussie, I'd never heard of a long term arrival calling themself an expat in Australia. Seems to me to be a relic of a bygone era. If you've made Singapore your forever home, you're an immigrant. Plan to head back to somewhere else? Expat.
Correct view of Thailand real estate. There’s an over supply and capital growth can even go backwards. Better off putting money in SG investments, unit trusts, fixed deposit etc, which are tax free.
I fully agree with the part on leaving the Malaysia league to have our own league. Personally, I feel it would be better off to consolidate into 2 or 3 teams to play in Malaysia, Indonesia or Thailand league. Unfortunately, setting up our own league is too big of the step and really didn't work out as decision makers have thought it would.
@@tidursini It goes back to the question of why were we kicked out ? Why didn't the Singapore govt or some public agency discuss wth M'sia about continuance after ? Was there no ego at play ? Or Singapore at that point in time, simply assumed that throwing money and forming a local league will rival the Malaysian Cup someday ?
So great to hear and to learn that so many western Expats have made Singapore 🇸🇬 their new home to start a new life or business venture 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Yup, i'm from UK and now living in SG, it has been totally ruined by uncontrolled, unregulated mass immigration and a liberal criminal justice system as well as the welfare state and benefits system. It will continue to get worse, it hasn't hit rock bottom yet, it will continue to decline without a doubt
If London is a dustbin in Europe, I wonder why politicians in Malaysia regardless race and religion like to send their children to UK? Never heard about sending their children to Italy, France or Russia ?
Hi Max, I remember in one of your interviews, you mentioned a gadget that your daughter is using to help her Mandarin learning. Could you please provide the link, I am interested in it. Thanks in advance.
One of the best sports presenters in Singapore. Although I'm no sports fan, I've watched him/heard him presented many sports segments and he's really good at commentating almost any sport. This interview is great, Max!
the UK has changed enormously since 1990 when Steve left to come to Singapore, it has been through many bust and boom cycles, and has also seen the "shell-suit" generation have kids and the knock-on effect of the lack of respect destroy the underlying moral fabric. all of which has caused social change which also implies social unrest.
I saw Steve many time in Singapore during the late 90's and early 2000 whilst he is very frequent on tv . I must said Steve is a very friendly guy. Time flies over 30 years, Wow!
Why he keep referring themselves as an expat when in reality, he's an immigrant. My parents immigrated from Switzerland to Singapore and they called themselves immigrant because that's what they are.
I think there will be a lot more Westerner migration to Asia in the next few decades. They will move for the lifestyle, weather, food, education for their kids, business opportunities, safety, beaches, islands, endless adventure and exploration and to escape the high cost of living, crime and problems in the West.
If one notices all successful people of western countries are preferring singapore because its the only democracy that has strict laws and zero corruption and very safe city state. All other democracies are banana republics.
Stop blaming the foreigners (totally) on housing costs. Any logical person after 1st year of running singapore would have known to build the exact amount of BTOs to marriage numbers. Yet 99% of BTOs are OVERSUBSCRIBED. The fact that they keep doing this after 50 years shows either gross incompetency or sinister intentions to prop up the resale market with artificial means. It's not market forces, they are controlling though ARTIFICIAL scarcity. And to those who are "defending" saying we lack of land, I refer u to the huge number of black & white houses, GCBs, landed, empty fields next to many MRT stations (Jurong east MRT was empty till highest bidder came), Nee Soon camp is the size of a small town & many more.
Workers Party suggested building FEWER BTO before the pandemic. So it would have been even worse. Like it or not, if the Government builds too many BTOs and many of them end up not being sold, people will complain. If they build too few, people will also complain. Only entitled Singaporeans who think they are perfect will demand a perfect number of BTOs built.
@@enjolras Look at the way u argue, first u quote an extreme position : if build too much. Then u quote another extreme position : Build too little. Are u the type who drives at 30km/h or 150km/h ? U seem to detest the middle ground. Many PAP supporters are exactly like u. How about build the same amount as RECORDED MARRIAGES ? Is it that too difficult for PAP? Have u heard of JIT ? demand forecasting ? I studied it. Many MNCs practice it. Even the lowly char kway tiao hawker does it.
@@TrentHong Where have you been living? Under a rock? When Singaporean couples get engaged, what do they do? Go and apply for an HDB flat, numbnuts. We are already building to order. We're already building JIT. It's just that a flat is a little bit more complex than a fryingeasier frying a plate of food.Unless what you actually mean is you want the Government to read people's minds and forecast three or five years in advance when they are getting married, so that the keys will be waiting for them the minute they tie the knot? And also, if you bothered to educate yourself, you'll know that the government projects about 30,000 units per year anyway.
Survival Bias : Foreigners that remained in SG obviously like it here. But there are thousands more who didn't and left. U can't find them in Singapore. I've lived abroad, Australia is better in terms of lifestyle, weather, cost of living & people. Also I dun understand why any human likes to be packed like sardines & waste in total years of their lives to queue up for everything all the time. Singapore is an extreme elitist country that values wealth over anything. Even If u're middle class, u have no right to own a car or live in a decent house. I don't understand why even high flyers flock to singapore. If u value security and safety above all else you have no excuses, there are 5 countries (in a recent ranking) safer and less cramped than Singapore.
You are so right. But I don’t think the channel’s aim is to present a balanced, objective representation of how people who’ve experienced living in Singapore find the place. There are 300,000 Singaporeans living abroad for e.g. - to date only one of those has been interviewed on this channel. Neither has any foreign construction worker or domestic servant been interviewed, to my knowledge….
@@impopquiz Fleas captured in a glass bottle never go above the lid, even when there is no lid. It's an real experiement. And u're the human version of it.
We are already denser than Gaza. 5 million monkeys fighting each other for limited coconuts in a small island. Why not just go to a real country with unlimited coconuts where so much lesser monkeys per square km ? U may think that spore is a nice place to retire. But your money will disappear with PAP polices that almost deliberately seek inflation (Pls recall r we are the most expensive in the world EVEN before COVID) Even the typical PAP supporter are thinking of retiring in JB etc. These supporters have a "what can I do" mindset that while they know PAP is money above all else, they won't vote against the party.
