What It's Actually Like to be a Camp Counselor (Honest Q&A)

I know, I know Summer's over, but, I filmed this during the summer so that everything would be fresh in my mind, and plus most camp applications start in January (my camp's opened today) so now you can be thinking about it and be completely committed or not by the time application season rolls around.. you're welcome :) To sum up this video, like any job, being a counselor has challenges: maybe not as much sleep as you'd like, you're needs are last to be met, not the greatest pay, but I'd definitely the joys that come out of it out-weigh any cons, the friends you make, the memories, the stories, the character development, the experience, and the knowledge! I’ve worked as a counselor for 3 days now and I love my group of kids, I have only 8 because we have strict guidelines Due to the coronavirus. My first day was a little stressful but today (3rd day) my campers are listening to me and like me. You just have to be patient with them, and wait for them to open up to you.

Love these camp counselor videos. I want to try that in the future when I get my anxiety issues sorted out. Seeing all of the videos helps a lot. It's good to at least daydream camp life hahah. It looks like a really good opportunity to get used to watching over kids, making friends with co-counselors, having new experiences, being in nature, etc. I'm so awkward with kids but I think it's the kind of thing that goes away over time and becoming confident.

when i was a camp counselor it was a lot of work but I enjoyed working with the kids since I grew up helping take care of my cousins and siblings and I did it for two months and said never again lol

I go to this camp called unirondack it is a Unitarian universalist camp and it is just an incredible place it is the best 2 weeks in the whole year the staff are absolutely incredible and I don't know where I would be without the camp I would totally TOTALLY recommend this place it changed my life 💛

I’m going to be a 13 almost 14 year old cit this summer. But that’s because i’m working with the 8-10 year old camper age group. Funnily enough i’m going to the 11-13 year old week at the same camp. I think there are different guidelines at every camp about what age counselors and cits can be.

I'm going to be a CIT at a Girl scout camp this summer they do it based off of age so when I started as a CIT I was going to turn 15 that summer and I was so disappointed I couldn't have done it the summer I was turning 14 because my birthday is in August so the CIT's I was going to camp with ( as a camper) we're also going into Highschool but since I was 13 and wasn't 14 I couldn't be a CIT. Even though the last two weeks of CIT the camp was having I was literally 3 weeks from my birthday I remember I was so sad

I know I am like reaaalllyyy late but I went to sleep away camp last year and my counseler said “I hope my next group will be a boys group....” in front of us do they actually prefer boys than girls... cause I felt really sad.
