What It's Like Being A Part of a Home Church 

So well put together - thank you! I’ve watched many videos about ‘leaving the church’ that tend to criticise the institution but provide no solutions. I love the spirit behind your home church. So many advantages! 1. All are being equipped- active rather than passive 2. Financial offerings can go directly to those in need within the group or in the community rather than to building maintenance and upkeep 3. Real family is much easier with a small group. My husband and I have been praying to find a similar church in the Uk. God bless you both :)

I’m a member of a home church here in Connecticut. I thank God for leading me there. We are a happy mix of black, Hispanic and white. Both young and old. I believe a home church is what Jesus had in mind when building his following. If you have a question or don’t understand something you can chime in at that time. You can’t do that in a normal type church. If you have a message. You can bring it. Mostly we let the holy spirt lead us. So many times where we ended up in discussion is far from where we started. Church in the home is biblical. NAMING churches is NOT. DONT name it, don't incorporate it, dont get 501 C status. None of those things are scriptural and in fact are presumptuous.

According to the bible, people met up in homes, not a profit gaining building. That's why I am looking for a home church in my area.

I grew up going to church. I've never found any genuine fellowship at church. I left church eleven years ago and have had more meaningful fellowship with other Christians that I've met outside of church. There has never been anyone from church that ever reached out to me that ever made me feel like they really cared about me. I've been so turned off about church. The Lord led me out in the marketplace to share my faith with others. I've seen God do so much and he has manifested himself in my life as he promises in John 14:21. I've seen many people healed, deliverances and people having encounters with the Lord. I've found joy and fulfillment in getting out and being the church. It's amazing the people that the Lord has brought into my life. I unexpectedly ran into two Christian brothers yesterday that I haven't seen one of them in about seven years and the other one in about two years but we hung out for about three hours and had an amazing time of fellowship.

Thank you guys so much for talking about this! God has put " house church" on our heart for a couple years now. I'm so excited about being a part of one. We long for that fellowship and connection thay we read about in the book of Acts, which is missing in so many of the chutch buildings. I appreciate you explaining so practically and in detail about what that looks like.

Hi. I am a Japanese Christian living in Japan. I was just wondering about having a home church. Then I found your RU-vid . I and my husband have been so used to going to what you call a church for around 25 years, so we were not sure if it is biblical to start a home church. Since my mom got too old to go to church, we were trying to read bible and worship and pray with her online. from home these days on Sundays. Gradually we started thinking why not we start a home church, first just us and mom, then, who knows what plan God has... Is it possible...? Then your story truly encouraged me this morning. Hey my sister and brother who live clearly on the other side of the globe, I thank you so very much for sharing this precious story about what a church is.

Many people are now on this Home church journey. We were highly involved in a church system for over 30 years. We have had some issues with the structures of some churches..high cost of buildings, and other structures make the tithe not available to actually help the folks in the congregation. Sometimes, the leadership doesn’t allow transparency for funding. Or the Pastor is so authoritarian and no one is held accountable. One church we went to the Pastor suddenly decided that the children shouldn’t be in for worship and sent them to watch kids worship on a screen. No one was able to have a discussion. I had a lot of wonderful times when my kids were small during family worship. I agree that your children is a huge part of God is doing and they can be touched by the Holy Spirit and contribute. They have gifts to use! In the Jewish culture, 13 was considered initiation into, “ manhood” Our culture tends to teach people to be childish endlessly and not take on certain responsibilities that God would have to bless them..to prepare to become adults, husbands and wives, and good citizens. I also noticed no one seemed connected and when people were clearly walking in sin, no one confronted them because you have to have a love with Truth and some trust with someone. It makes it very difficult to have real conversations about what’s going on and the direction the church is taking when you feel you have no say, or authority. Even when we were serving faithfully, it still felt not okay to bring up issues. I wonder how you talk through differences and disagreements about doctrine or theological issues. Many other things, I probably shouldn’t go into. I applaud your decision, It takes courage to be vulnerable and do home group.

Our family has a home church and we have a heart for north Minneapolis MN and want God to awaken the body to fellowship with one another and worship in spirit and truth together instead of driving across town to “find good teaching” we are praying that God sends families our way or sends us to them! We also pray that the bride of Christ would awaken to the command that we love our neighbor as ourselves and recognize that our littlest neighbors in the womb need our voices to speak up for them. We need to be bringing the Gospel to the culture enslaved to its sin of abortion, selfishness, greed, and sex and be the Good Samaritan attending to the orphan being taken away to death. Please be a voice for the voiceless preborn so that we can abolish human abortion.

Church home groups are typically to reinforce the Sunday morning teaching, and while they often involve a meal, it’s pretty clear that it doesn’t “get started” until the meal is over. And that’s a bit sad.

Our first priority in coming together in His name is not to prepare to go share Him with others. That is a byproduct of our coming together. Our first priority is to grow up into His image individually and also corporately. Out of that comes MUCH fruit to His greater glory.

Listening to this makes me miss small church. Before we moved, we were apart of a small church (smaller than most home churches), and we could run just like a home church.

Love this! That has always been my concern. Am I forsaking the church by this idea. Am i doing it for the right reasons. I have felt a calling to begin the concept of a home church. The problem isn’t the building it’s what’s in your heart. Make your changing the church. Volunteer with the kids… leaving buildings empty does nothing but add to the problem of empty buildings… be the solution.

My father who went to be with the Lord in 2001 by the terminal cancer was a PASTOR of a church in OSAKA. He accepted Jesus as his personal savior in America while his exchange program during 60s. He eventually received his biblical education at a Dallas Theological Seminary from 1965 to 70. I have also received my personal education in Florida, America since High school and the Bible college in FL. I am 47 years-old male who has a Baby face. ---------- I personally believe that it is wonderful and extraordinary to have a House Church, but if any pastors or leaders at a House Church live at a same property, is it not difficult to relax themselves from a church environment to a regular, ordinally environment? Speaking of America geographically, Its country is very big; individual families who own personal property: such as a land, a house with a garage. Comparing to Many Asian countries such as Japan, Korea, China, Vietnam, etc. A size of Japan is very similar to that of California, America. Because of that reasons, it is very wonderful to have a House Church without any pressure in America. Some residents in America are allow to use a backyard pond or lake for fishing, swimming, water slide, BBQ lunch or dinner parties with House church members and neighbors. a situation or an environment of reality in Japan is very small. a house itself is very small because one of reasons is as I mentioned earlier, Japan's size geographically. I love this homechurch "thing". We are not very familiar with it here, but I'd love to be part of one. I know there are some, maybe I should have a look into it. I'm praying about starting one. I do have a question/concern...some of the Christians I know that I would invite to start one believe that the supernatural gifts in 1st Corinthians 12 are no longer in operation. I don't believe this largely because my experience has proved they haven't seized. How do you handle in a house church potential differences in doctrinal beliefs?

I'm looking for a decent home church in the Brisbane area. Many of them had blogs and websites years ago but most of them have disappeared in recent times. I like the concept of home church but past involvements lead me to conclude that many situations are problematic. A lack of leadership and maturity often means that home church goes nowhere fast. Splits over issues and personalities makes it worse. I'm not trying to be negative - it's just been my experience so far. Thanks!

Are y’all establishing new homes? I’m assuming if the Holy Spirit is leading your group then you’re possibly growing beyond the meeting place. I know Francis Chan is leading a home church movement as well and they are preparing from within pastors and teachers so that they are ready to promote leaders when its time for them to start in another home. Curious if you’re doing something like that as well?

Is there a home church for seniors?

I've found that so many people that are used to big corporate churches think, "I will get rich with a home church, I'm going to do that so that I can quit my job". And once they get that thought in their heads, they will fight tooth and nail to protect their idea, because money does that to people. I think that as long as you don't involve money in any way shape or form, that that is a good sign that that home church is serving the our Holy Father, the Most High and not some other god! But the moment you involve even as much as one red cent, money, in any way into your home church, that it is a sign that that home church is worshiping the master of money described in Matthew 6:24, not our Holy Father, and leading away and astray. Just my thoughts.

For clarification. Now you guys left your home churches (i.e. traditional ones that meet in bigger structures compared to homes), are u calling all Christians to leave their traditional churches and start anew, in home-based setting?

I really enjoyed this video and I support what you guys are doing, but I found one thing that was a little confusing in your testimony. You highlighted the fact that everyone in the house church will come with their own song, testimony, scripture, word from the Lord, etc. But how do you reconcile that with the following scripture?: How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. - 1 Corinthians 14:26 Is there a contradiction, or am I not interpreting the verse clearly?

We must deal with problems of doing church in buildings and putting the problems under the rug.

What do you do with the children? Our kids are fine, but other people's kids may have no self-control. Also, I'm thinking, do you choose who comes to your home-church? We've had some very strange people come to home groups. Do you have to put up with that? You know, I honestly do not want to end up with a room full of single men, odd balls and misfits. Then you won't get any 'normal' people to stay.

Thanks for the video. The video did raise some concerns. Trying not to be critical, just honest. I heard the words "good food" and "friends" for what attracted you to the home church. On a scale of 1-10 for choosing a church fellowship, those two reasons rate a '1". I have not heard anything about solid biblical teaching. I am not suggesting this is not biblical, I am simply saying "be careful". David Koresh, Warren Jeffs etc started meeting at home in "church" settings. It sounds like you enjoy it, and that's good. The day may come when the government crack down forces all of us into underground 'home churches'. Just be careful and discerning.

Maybe God is not overly concerned whether someone is married or not?

Guys the church is set up according to structure. There is a reason it is there. The five fold ministry. There eventually comes a point in time whereby gathering in houses wouldn't be efficient. It works with 5 people or a few number. What if you had five thousand people or ten thousand people. The Bible even says after Peter preached about the Christ he had loads of people I think by the thousands converted. It eventually becomes unfeasible to do that. I do agree that we should gather in homes as best as we can and break bread more often. However, I do feel that the numbers will keep rising to a high amount whereby there will be a need for eventually a place to put everyone together.

doesnt "apart" mean separate? a part instead? :P ive been in home church more in my life than real church. that being said, even the churches we went to were like 40 people at most, ever. its so intimate. and they WANT your kids in church with you. its a part of the whole thing - and actually many are saying thats what keeps kids in church - not having their own church, but being a part of the church with all age groups! its like homeschooling - you live in a way that resembles the adult world, instead of limiting kids to kids groups only and never inviting them into the adult world and making them feel accepted by adults around them. then they're 18 and thrust into the adult world and they have no relationship with the adults! yeah even tho i know no one minds, i miss things too and i get frustrated with the process. and we canNOT go often enough. there isnt a home church around me... and i dont have the ability to do one myself, even if i would offer my home up to one. our church is actually encouraging and running something to encourage home churches. finally. song service in one of our churches was like that! us kids could even request one... and i can still hear my Opa singing "in the garden" and "old rugged cross" or some other songs sometimes... i can still hear it in my head! this stuff is important!! small group church is beautiful. potlucks are HUGE HUGE HUGE in our church!!! like, seriously, its amazing and incredible and routine! its HUGE. :) haystacks are SUPER popular... (its a taco using chili, basically. and frito chips. :P) It can also transition into a Sabbath afternoon walk together for us... its beautiful. we dont want the day to end, Sabbath is so special. (7th day). :) you could always offer up your home for after "normal" church services for that fellowship time. i know people in a bigger church who do that weekly - they open their home for potluck and fellowship afterwards. its just a sweet transition into more time with the Body more time with God instead of going home and just feeling like its an ordinary day...

Nowhere on the Bible dors it say s church has to be s business

"This is my Sunday best"? What am I missing? If this is all the man had, then yes, it perhaps it is his "best". However, looking at the surroundings and the person next to him, I doubt he is telling the truth.

"Church," that word is strangling American Christianity. A Fellowship is 2 or more with Christ. That is it, and once you start adding all the rest of it you are stacking dead weight on top of Christ's will. 2 or more, plus Christ, that's it.
