British people aren't stuck up, if anything I would say Americans are. Don't know where that misconception comes from.
@hennerz185

The biggest misconception is the accent for me, every time a British is portrayed it's used with that posh British accent. Not gonna lie but nobody talks how British citizens are portrayed.

Katie Hopkins is a stupid, stuck-up, self-centered female dog who doesn't deserve to be a British citizen. If any of you Americans don't know who Katie Hopkins is, look up "katie hopkins quotes" on Google, and read them on Twitter. You'll probably think the same as me.

Its true that we may not blurt out compliments to strangers or just go around hugging people, but that doesn't mean to say we aren't nice. From my experience, British people are nice, we just don't have this urge to show it to everyone - we do say hi as we pass people and will gladly hold open doors for strangers and be kind - that's not to say what American's do is bad, its just.. unusual. And, for a person like me who is shy and finds it hard to communicate with new people in a social gathering, I have the perspective that most people in the UK are like me - at least when it comes to speaking to a stranger. It just doesn't come naturally to want to speak to someone you don't know. I mean, what do you even talk about? Also, for a person like me, if an American did say hi and gave me a hug when first meeting me, its not to say I wouldn't be nice, but they would then come off as too nice and that would make me feel uncomfortable. I think we British just like to have some personal space when it comes to being around new people - like, being in a full train, we would try our best to keep off each other, you don't want to be in a strangers hair, literally.

they should interview someone from glasgow in scotland instead, they're some of the friendliest and most down to earth people you could ever meet :) strangers always talk to each other in scotland and have a laugh, in the north of england too, but it's unheard of in the midlands and the south of england.

I do think people are more reserved here, but are more likely to smile, nod and say good morning than have a full blown conversation. You're more likely to get interaction in villages and towns than in cities. When I went to America shop assistants were crazy nice, to the point it was annoying and I wanted them to bugger off. There's being nice and polite and then there's just getting in the way despite good intentions haha

As a foreigner I always feel that the nice comments one gets in America is only of superficial value. It' just a figure of speech. As a foreigner one feels a little bit under attack when e.g. in an elevator Americans say "how are you today" to a complete stranger. Would not fly over here in Europe, and you would be looked at weirdly for having asked and invaded my personal space.

i wouldnt say this woman gives a true representation of britian. i live up north and its like an unwritten rule to smile, nod and even how ask someone is when you make eye contact with them in the street whether you know them or not lol we dont have finishing school where i live we have primary school, high school (finish aged 16), college (optional) and university (optional). the majority of britians are not posh like this woman watch jeremy kyle and see for yourself. Also id say the most shocking this about america for me is how many people have guns and how easily it is to get one, ive never seen an ammunition or gun shop in england expect BB guns. our police force dont even carry them - tazer, cuffs, done.

@daz68able
@daz68able 9 лет назад
THE FACTS - i come from west London , in central London they are so up them selves it's a joke ( stuck up and ignorant ) the further away from central London you get, the more friendly people are. you get rough area's in most cities , but across the board people have more time for you when you start to distance yourself from the city of London. the further you travel out , the more friendly it gets. there are rich people up and down the country so it's not money that makes you like this. many large cities in England are really busy so it's not down to living in a large city. so i put it down to some sort of elite attitude mindset , which is that normal people are here to serve them. like politicians who lie to the public as if the public are all dumb fools. i am a friendly person in life and am offended by sheer rudeness & ignorance. this is my own person view. so don't think England is central London , as there is a big difference in the people. England is a great country and London is a great city, but the people of England are truly unique across the board.
