This was very interesting. I think someone should talk about dating as a therapist. My dating life has become so much more difficult since becoming a therapist.

OMG yes! I think a part of what makes it hard as well is that as therapists we see the humanity and goodness in everyone. So I often finding myself going on a few dates with people who in hindsight, would not have been suitable for me to begin with, but I go one date too many with them because I keep thinking things like: "well they were probably nervous, everyone is nervous in the beginning.." It's too hard to piece out that see goodness in everyone part of us!!

So what I'm hearing is that as a therapist your dating life is a challenge.....is that right? Seriously though I totally can understand why. Instantly that probably puts up a defense in some people.

I'm married to a therapist for 32 yrs already. Actually retiring end of January 2023!! I can relate to pretty much everything Daniel said. My husband will often ask me a question with his bias in it. I call him out on it now, and we laugh. Also, there have been times I have said to him, "can you just be my husband and not my therapist right now?" Although, as Daniel noted therapy is very integrated into the therapist's personality.

Haha, thanks for sharing and tell Daniel thanks for being open in his responses. This was an enjoyable video and very relatable. I'm a child therapist just starting her private practice in WV and met my husband while he was in graduate school near DC. Now going into our 11th year of marriage and with 3 kids it's fun to reflect on all that's changed since then.

This was sooo sweet! Thank you being willing to share this "side" of private practice :) It's super inspiring to see that there are people who would like you even with your therapist quirky-ness and would not be intimidated by things that become second nature to us as therapists (hello "hmm, tell me more") 😅

When people ask me at parties if I’m “psychoanalyzing them right now” I always answer with an emphatic “yes!” and then explain that we’re all doing that all the time and that’s ok. Then they give me money

I love this! My husband sometimes likes that I am a therapist and sometimes doesn't haha. It's helped me grow so much as a person to engage with others and be more active in my listening and communication. I think that sometimes it's challenging when I bring home work or upset because of a session and I do my best. I do children therapy in Colorado. Always love your videos and it really helped me transition from agency work to my thriving private practice! I appreciate your hard work with navigating life and providing content on RU-vid!

Your husband did a great job of carefully answering questions without being mean. It's extremely interesting to hear him say you use some therapy techniques on him. A person in my friend group became a therapist and they definitely use there training outside of work. When you try to tell them a story they seem way to into it. Even if it's something small they will act super interested. Sounds similar to how your husband was talking. Then again if you have an issue in something he understands I'm sure he'd probably go all doctor on you. Lolol

We have interesting cross-over lives here. Although I'm much older, my husband is Asian (I am Caucasian). I feel like there's so much about the blending of our cultures that makes me a better therapist...my husband is in medicine (science/research). He had his PhD before I went to grad school and he was my biggest support (as well as chief editor). I know that all those papers he read helped him deal with some of his own "stuff." It was nice to meet Daniel - he's very thoughtful, insightful, and giving.

I love this video! Love your videos and I would love more videos like this! So sweet your guys story! I've always wondered what it's like to marry a therapist, I bet communication is better! I've read somewhere some therapist can turn it off when they leave but some a lot just keep their thoughts to themselves but they think as a therapist because it's in grain in them but they won't oppose it in their personal lives like their partners or try not too!

The question about always analyzing - humans literally always analyze the people around them. Always. It’s part of basic survival and part of having relationships. Psychologist just do it for a living so we have a lot of practice in doing it.

@@deuteronomy3162 I didn't get that vibe from their conversation but if you say so lol. My husband actually appreciates the effort! As long as I actually listen to his answer afterward lol. I totally get how it would feel icky if I were to ask and then not even listen or engage in his answers though! But please do better at not generalizing when commenting on other folks lives 😊
@Allybaba55
@Allybaba55 Год назад
@@deuteronomy3162 I made a passive statement about my own life. And you made a directed and presumptuous statement about my relationship. So not the same type of comment at all. I was alerting you to that, the same as you were apparently warning me. Direct communication and clarifying statements are not the same as shaming.

LCSW for telehealth, my YT channel (practically social) is therapy related, I also write on Medium. As a divorced single Dad with a schedule around my son, I can say it's been exceptionally hard both to make income and date. Given that we're in a field with an ever increasing mileu of people, yet are forbidden from even being friends or engaging in business with them, let alone how people feel about therapists and "therapizing" them (which is often perception, not reality- I keep work at work), wouldn't it be nice if I met a female doctor (with financial support) and actually had a supportive partner... It seems easy for women therapists to find this, however often as male therapists we're deligitamized in dating and social circles. Just one opinion.

Ok question im enganged and shes a therapist , she is amazing but emotionally not there at all, we do not ever talk about me or my feelings (beleive me i learned my lesson) and if i say something is wrong its turned on me. What do i do? Iv been thinking about therapy just so i can express how i feel without being hurt in return
