iironicgacha With all due respect: it can’t. “Hope you’re ok” would contain a contraction of ‘you are’ in the form of ‘you’re’ ‘Your’ speaks of something belonging to ‘you’. It cannot be one or the other. That makes no sense whatsoever.
@@SignDuoChannel you should really adopt another dog if you can. Dogs are pack animals, they live in packs. Hearing is not their primary sense so its not that hard for a dog to live without it. Since dogs comunicate through body language and energy, it would really benefit the dog to have another dog to rely on 100%.
@@SignDuoChannel y'all are amazing😁🤟🏽 and thanks for taking the time to reply to me. It's for people as kind as you guys that motivate me to get an interpreters degree when I graduate high school!!😁😁
Its amazing the amount of people who are so ignorant about dogs. Does nobody knows dogs communicate with body language? Like most animals? Hence it won't be hard at all to teach a dog sign language. Its harder to get a dog to listen/understand to verbal commands than sign language.
@@AM-fh7ek don't know if you meant it to, but that came off kind of rude. Yes by now most pet owners know that or should know that animals are less responsive but what most people are more ignorant of is the whole ASL language itself. Thats what I meant. They're showing EXACTLY what you so rudely tried to state. ASL is a such a successful language because it's not just limited to one on one "human" interaction.
When she gets a little bit bigger you could try getting her a petsafe collar you can let her out with if you have continuous problems with needing to go out to get her when its time to come in! You press the vibrate button and you can train her to get her attention to come in from the backyard!
I have this for my cat! He kept crossing the road, our house is by a busy main road, we were worried he wouldn't return or get run off. We placed the under ground wire about the house and it works! Just have to make sure the battery on the collar is replaced every couple of months. My cat is 9kgs so the collar fits nicely.
My friend used a similar collar for her deaf dog and it as an amazing resource. Not only for coming in from the yard but to find the human in the house.
Have you considered taking her to a veterinary specialist for hearing test? That way the vet can suggest a device that will play tones that she will be able to hear that will be useful when calling to her from a distance, training her, or if there is an emergency and you need her attention as soon as possible and can’t get to her.
Summer Vibes I just started taking an American sign language class and now I can understand some of what he’s saying without captions. I feel so accomplished.
Just a suggestion, but maybe tap her surroundings or wave your hand in front of her first to get her attention instead of tapping her from behind. Usually you’re not suppose to come up behind a deaf dog because that scares them and depending on the person she could turn around and bite ( not saying she would) but just a heads up. That’s what happened with my friends deaf dog. Someone came up behind him and touched his back and he turned and bit, not hard, but like a warning bite cause he got scared.
Yessss, I went to try and adopt a deaf pit bull once and someone came up behind her super quickly and scared her so she turned and bit my leg really hard and one of the volunteers RIPPED her lead out of my hands and yelled SHE SHOULDN'T BE OUT HERE SHE ISN'T FOR ADOPTION. I was like, she was PERFECT until someone scared her. I wasn't mad she bit me and then soem scary woman comes up and reprimand her and drags her inside... It wasn't right. It pissed me off so much.
This is so cute!!! I trained my dog using LESCO (Costa Rican Sign Language) We are both hearing but she obeys better in LESCO and I feel we can communicate better using signs than me talking to her. By the way I love your channel and learning the differences and similarities between both sign languages.
Put a little peanut butter on your hand and as she licks it says kisses! Aww kisses! Then when she bites say no bite, kisses! Kisses! It really works to stop their biting. ☺️
So true! I had two golden retriever (they don't live with me but I visit them from time to time). One of them, Mila, sits when you close your fist and when we took her out to the park she would stop and sit when I stopped to cross the street, also when signaling the floor she layed down. The other one, Pepe, knows how to count, so he will bark the amount of fingers you put in front of him... it probably doesn't have a wide use like other commands, but it's still pretty cool and we praise him for being an intelligent boy
watching your guys videos really inspires me to learn basic sign language, but also you guys make it so easy for someone who doesn’t know sign language to enjoy your videos and that’s amazing
What if you got a vibrating collar?(not a shock collar, just a vibrating one. It may also be a setting on a shock collar, and then just don't use the shock feature, but that's how it was on the one we had for our golden, but it was helpful cause she would run so far and wouldn't hear us calling anymore)Train her that when she feels that she needs to look at you, and from there you don't have to wait for her to look at you, you could get her to look at you. :) Maybe also a dog whistle would work?
We are a completely hearing family but we associate a sign with every verbal command to enforce what we are wanting from our dogs. And it truly helped when our dog lost her hearing from age. We were still able to communicate 🙂
Java is so cute.😍 When I was little, I was attacked by a dog really badly, so a therapist suggested my parents get me a dog right away, so I wouldn’t develop a fear of dogs. They ended up getting me a deaf dalmation. (My family and I can all hear.) She was the best and smartest dog. We would pound on the floor to get her attention and then sign commands to her.❤️
You guys have inspired me to start learning ASL, i have tourettes and often pickup what others are doing like ive been watching an austrailian youtuber (im american) and i am picking up a accent and saying words like oi and mate alot, so this seems like it will be a fun adventure to learn how to sign.
I JUST FREAKIN' SAW YOU TWO IN A MUSIC VIDEO WITH STEVE AOKI AND THE BACKSTREET BOYS.... INSIDE I WAS LIKE YAAAAAAS YOU MADE IT!!! 😂 GOSH YOU ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER
My first dog (now my oldest) was born deaf. Best dog ever. She travels well, she pays attention very well, shes got tons of attitude for such a little dog. Shes the best behaved dog that we have ever had. I would love to always have a deaf dog because of her. I got her because I wanted a challenge but ended up with the easiest dog ever.
My mom at one point told me that she thought my cat was deaf/hard of hearing. I was like... No. He's just very good at pretending he doesn't hear you when he doesn't feel like listening. He can hear the sound of a bag of treats, or a cupboard being opened. Just because he doesn't always react when you call for him, doesn't mean that he's deaf. X)
I'd be nice if there was like a collar that lit up or vibrated when you wanted your deaf dog to come to you. That also makes me wonder what other "deaf dog" specific stuff is out there because I've just never thought about it before.
I legit love them so much! I found them on my recommendation And there so funny haha Im taking ASL as a college student and there deff helpful! Their relationship shows so much more then just being couple but shows patient, which is so important. You guys are such great role model!
*LONG DEAF DOG ADOPTION STORY* i adopted my dog from my local shelter almost 2 years not knowing she was deaf, she was about 1 year old when we got her. she was kenneled with about 5 other dogs which im assuming were her siblings or were all just strays and found together. She never barked, when we called her she wouldnt pay attention, OH and she was ALWAYS scared (either from past abuse or just confusion). We soon realized she was deaf and now to get her attention when shes outside, shes usually laying right on the wall or the house no matter the location, we hit the wall a couple of times so she can feel the vibrations and she looks up/wakes up/reacts she then knows its time to come to the door. our neighbor recommended not going up to her and tapping her and catching her off guard because they go into shock and you wont know if she will try to run and hurt herself or might even hurt you. everyday you will learn how to adapt to your dogs needs better and better! best of luck to you guys!!!
A lot of people use vibrating collars to get their deaf dogs attention. I've watched videos and you dont use the shock setting, only the vibrate to get their attention. Id love to elaborate if youd like!
It is emotional for me to watch/listen to what it takes to cope in a hearing world. I am completely deaf in my right ear. I can not tell direction of sounds. Now I know I look around for good reasons, like the pup. It is not because I can't focus or make eye contact. I get distracted and can't figure out what is going on. Thank you for this help.
At least She/he could sleep while there Is loud sounsds, i really cant sleep if there isnt *any* sound as i have a weak insomnia and Need complete silence to sleep
She's so cute! The key to training a dog is consistency! My dogs are hearing but when I was training them to do tricks, I had to teach them a sign or symbol first and then associated the word to the sign or symbol. I was told it was good to teach signs and verbal commands, in case, a dog loses his hearing as they age. For calling Java in, you guys can use a flashlight or a vibrating collar.
Congratulations on your fur baby! Omg she’s a precious pup! I don’t know sign language but enjoy watching without captions so I can pick up things I understand then the second time around I watch with captions to see if I was correct! My husband and I had two dogs (lost one to cancer recently) but we’ve taught them a few hand signals which are important if they are at a distance and we don’t want to be loud (maybe someone is sleeping, or they are across the yard). We use signals for: stay in sight, come, go, quiet, and want a cookie? All signals were taught with words since they could hear and once reinforced and learned just the signal is used. Dogs are such a joy! Have fun, she’s going to grow up so quickly!
I got a Golden Retriever when I was 6 and I accidentally ended up training him hand motions (And verbal commands) Because I always did a certain hand motion when I said "sit" and a different one when I said "Stay" etc. In my mind, it was kinda just for catching his attention, but in the end I could get him to sit, stay, lay down etc with either a verbal command or a hand motion. It was actually very useful for him to understand hand motions.
Imma be honest, I have no clue what the guy is saying, and I stumbled here on accident. But I can tell he’s telling stories and I like how expressive he is. Could someone help me understand what he’s saying please? It doesn’t have to be everything but one of the stories would be great. Time stamps help too. ❤️ thank you
So I’m studying Audiology and I learned that men’s voices are better to understand than a woman because the difference in their frequencies! Not too sure how comfortable Ryan is with using his voice, but I think it would be cool to see if she is Hard of Hearing, what sounds she’s able to make out. High or low frequencies 😊 🤟🏼 guys!
She's adorable!! And what teaching goes: even a hearing dog learns signs and body language (in some ways animals are smarter than most of people!) A deaf dog might just take a little more time!! That's all! 😊 And you guys are doing such amazing job by giving her a beautiful home and a place in such a lovely family!! 💖
I’ve never been here before, hello. Is your boyfriend a mute by chance? I am already in love with the way you guys communicate! And what an adorable puppy!
What it may be better understanding body language it has eyes? Sit Please don't punish your puppy.. Do working with your puppy it does specially behaved. Good luck?
I melt every time! I just love Java! I had a GSD I taught sign language, English, and Spanish commands. It's so awesome to see them learning and responding. 💗
A lot of positive affirmation by petting her will tell her she's doing a good job! Tia torres has trained deaf dogs and has videos of how she trained them too if you wanted to see those (^ω^)
I'm really curious about Java's hearing. Typically dogs that are born deaf are piebald, and though deafness does run in some breeds without piebaldism, it usually develops later in adulthood (EAOD), so I'm wondering if something happened to Java to make her go deaf. I'm curious if you've had her BAER tested. Obviously she's several months old now because this video is older, but I'd be very curious to know if she's had her ears checked by a canine ear specialist, since this is unusual for a fully-colored Pit. For inspiration with your training, you should check out some of the videos from people competing in dog obedience. Many of the higher level dogs compete totally with signed commands, and there are a lot of deaf handlers who only use sign even with the lower level dogs. It's super fun! :) Also, you can buy collars that vibrate, and you teach the dog commands based on length and pattern of vibrates. You can teach a "look at me", "stay", "come", and other super important commands with vibrations. Super helpful for teaching off-leash skills, so she learns to stay within eyesight, etc.
I adopted my first puppy 4 months back. He was born completely deaf due to being a double merle. He is almost 6 months old now and he knows 20+ signals and commands through hand gestures and ASL. He even knows "bathroom" and will run outside to potty when I use that sign. He is an Aussie/heeler and is very much my velcro dog. I've found a lot of success through training him with a vibration collar. NOT A SHOCK COLLAR, obviously. I use the vibrate to get his attention. When we're at a dog park and he goes off to far, I give him a vibrate and he immediately perks up and looks for me. There are definitely some cons of having a deaf pup, but there are also a lot of pros. For instance they won't be afraid of fireworks or loud cars! They will also sleep a lot more. When it comes to training tricks, they're so much more focused because they're not getting distracted by all the sounds. The very first thing I taught my pup was "look at me" and he has taken that so well. I definitely recommend teaching that command super early on because later on in life they'll want to look for/at you more. My pup's name is Zero, because he has Zero hearing lol. Deaf dogs are amazing.
When I would train my dogs I would add a visual cue to my commands as well as the verbal one, which many times made getting them to sit and stay a lot easier without any speech required. Turns out many dogs take to visual commands so easily and quickly! And it ended up being a big help when our dogs got older and lost their hearing, since they were already used to the non verbal commands! I’d be really interested in adapting this to a completely non-verbal training style if I ever got a deaf or HoH dog in the future as I found it so useful and easy
Oh God , the deaf dog bark bark bark bark bark and got hearing people go crazy then leave the deaf party. I laughed like a big dog and the deaf dog made happy. DETROIT!!!!! Not my deaf dog.
Ryan: why do deaf people mouth the words they are signing? What is the point of doing that? Also, do you find the word “deaf” offensive like some Asians (I’m Asian by the way) find offensive being called oriental? (I’m actually not offended if being called oriental.)
Ahhh I was hoping you'd post again soon! (Hi! I'm amandafar.... from instagram :) It must be like suddenly having a baby-do you have to get up in the middle of the night to take her out? And does she react to vibrations? Like if you were to tap on the floor or her crate (gently on the crate, of course). I noticed Ryan doing that in one of the earlier vids, and I was wondering if that's another way to possibly train her. Love you guys!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm new to this channel, and noticed you two signing to Java in another video. My dog has been going deaf recently, so I found this video really helpful 😊
I was thinking about getting attention. Those lil reflective mirrors, like the hiking types. Would that work for getting the dogs attention when out on walks. Also I was thinking colored flags. Little ones for you could wave. Or is it just better to sigh. For come and such.
I used to be a nurse and worked with children on ventilators. We use to use sign language with the kids and I taught my pup (who is hearing) some signs. He knows how to sit, no, more, all gone and a few other signs. I think sign language should be taught as a language in school just like French or Spanish. Started following Java on IG. Thanks for letting us watch you all!!
Hi I just want to say you all great.i came upon your RU-vid channel, and thought you are all the best. I love how you incorporate ASL in your daily life, and teach us all of us about AsL. A s l is a huge part of my life as well and I'm very proud of it and honored by it You are all the best I am so glad to fellow you on on RU-vid, and Instagram. Love you.
She's so cute!! I'm so sad that my 13 yo min pin (one of two sisters) has gone mostly deaf over the past year. I thought she was just getting more lazy and defiant, but turns out she can't hear me most of the time. I am now searching RU-vid for how to communicate with her better. I love my babygirls so much, her sister Bella and the one that went deaf is Chloe. They are so sweet. They are now senior dogs and I pray they have several more years with me.
We are possibly adopting a deaf dog! :D that is actually what has inspired us to learn sign language. do you guys have a video of how to sign various dog commands? Like sit, stay, down, good boy/girl, no, etc. to get us started
I love this video. My family and I have a deaf pitbull but no one knows how to communicate with her. She is either with me or my brother. I have specific signs for her or whenever her big brother moves she moves. (Her big brother is my 3 years old yellow lab) can you do a video on how you teach Java tricks with the signs you guys use?
I'm so glad I found this. We are considering adopting a deaf dog. My big worry honestly is having people over and them startling or scaring her if they don't know how to act specifically if our house guests are children.
I've already learned a lot from your guys' videos! Can I ask, why do you choose to film mostly in the car, than in the house or something? Is it because you like to get food/a drink then answer a question right away?
Java is Soooo Cute! There are so many resources out there for people wanting to adopt a deaf dog....go for it.. you will never regret it. One tip...to train her to come back from a distance at night (like when you need to let her out for a pee0, get her used to coming when you flash the outdoor porch light on and off. Thanks for all your videos guys. Keep it up.
I always wanted to teach a dog or cat asl and this told me i could teach our puppy asl who is a 5 month old rottie girl and she knows only water and maybe bathroom
Late to commenting, but I think sign commands should be taught to every pet, regardless if they are deaf or not. When my dogs were getting older and were just starting to lose their hearing, we taught them sign commands and they picked them up so easily. When a family friend adopted an elderly dog, I taught him the signs and he picked it up within days. I adopted an adult cat a few months ago and I've taught him to do tricks. I say the commands, but I also do signs for them even though he's not deaf and he responds better to the signs. The only downside to signs is that if they're in a grumpy mood, they can turn their head to not see you signing so they can be like "what? I have no idea what you're saying. I don't want to do this" :D but really, animals are smarter than a lot of people give them credit for and it's not as hard as you might think to have a deaf pet.
He face is like tooooo cute. I currently have a puppy a bit older than Java and it’s crazy enough with him being able to hear me call him (though he chooses to ignore) so I can imagine It can be a bit challenging to train her, but once she gets it, she’ll be set. Also, puppies seem to get sign language better then words sometimes😂
A tip for getting her attention!! Try to tap her surroundings such as hit the side of the crate when she's inside, or tap on the floor if she's lying down there to get her attention. Hopefully the vibrations will get her to look at you so she doesn't get scared by you just tapping her. Maybe this will help!
my family trained our dogs to sit and lie down with voice and hand signals. often when they won't listen they actually respond to the hand signals, so it's weird to me that people would think dogs can't understand signs. my 18 yr old dog is now nearly deaf so it's becoming more important to use signs.
My dog has just suddenly gone deaf, but luckily when we would call her and anything else, we always used hand signals anyway, but this is super helpful for the rest of her years.
Y’all should look at the ecollars. Not the ones for shocking but some are only a stimulation that’s only like a tap on the shoulder but from far away. Good for deaf dogs and it helps them understand you are wanting them to look at you
It’s silly to me that people think deaf dogs are harder to train. The easiest way to teach ANY dog is first with a hand motion the signifies what you want them to do then add a vocal command for hearing dogs. Yes maybe it’s easier to get a hearing dogs attention but there’s also an added level of distraction that deaf dogs don’t have. Java is going to be so wonderful.
I have a deaf pupper too. I got her when she was already a year old when she was dumped at our local shelter. She is a double Merle collie mix. Smart as hell, Knows all her hand signals, and can read my face like a champ. I love her to pieces and she is mine forever
To able to understand what Ryan is saying go and click the caption and it will show u what his saying on the subtitle Hope that helps cuz i just found out today 😂
Its actually far easier to train a dog by hand signals or signing than by auditory cues only. You can train a dog in any language, even gibberish words you make up, so long as you are consistent on using the same words every time but dogs use visual cues far faster than auditory ones.
idk why but i just now recently became fascinated and wanting to learn more about how does someone learn ASL and associating words while being hard of hearing and also on the flipside of someone being a partner to a person that is hard of hearing, if there are any things that you find difficult in a relationship
I get confused when people ask how would you train a deaf dog because my dog and I both are hearing and I also taught him both sign and verbal commands. And I think every dog owner should do that, because if you’re in a loud environment or etc that’s the only way the dog will do what you want them to do.
