Can you make a video about your journey after graduating nursing school? like when you started applying to hospitals, the interview process etc. It's what happens after you graduate that worries me about graduating after Nursing school

Don’t be surprised if you have to move to get a hospital job ( I did). The more metro the area the harder it is to get a job If you’re adamant about working at a specific hospital or on a specific unit, try working there as an aide/PCA. The hospital is more likely to move you up once you graduate/pass NCLEX. Had a classmate go from transporter to RN doing this at a very, very VERY prestigious hospital. Research interview questions, come up with very good answers and memorize them. Or at least memorize scenarios that are easily applicable to many questions. Start applying in March (for Spring graduates) and October (for fall graduates). Keep in mind Spring is more competitive because the graduating class is larger. Your first RN job is highly unlikely to be your last. Some places suck to work at but get your 1 year of experience and move on. That 1 year is what every hospital seems to ask for. Don’t feel bad about leaving either, it’s the nature of the job.

I wanted to quit nursing school today, I had a rude preceptor at clinical. She talked down to me, I was so scared to make errors that I questioned everything I was doing and was self conscious I felt horrible, I couldn’t eat the whole day. Hope it gets better.

Don't give up....you got this. you've come too far to quit now. stay prayed up and remember when someone can attack you like that, its not you, its them. pray for them...,deep down their hurt and want to hurt others... once you realize that, you see things more clearly.

Keep your head up and don't let her throw you. People like that are bullies and are seriously bitter and unhappy in their lives. I don't even know how they get to be preceptors. Study hard, stay on top of your game, and stay positive. She's testing you. Don't let her ruin this for you.

Hey I’ve been seeing a bunch of videos related to this. Someone who had years of nursing experience said “if you think you know everything, you’re wrong cause there’s always room to learn more here. I mean I’ve been working since 1995 and I’m still learning new things everyday!” Plus they say to ask questions to make sure you know and learn instead of questioning/doubting

You're soooo right, give yourself a YEAR at least if you can before you come close to giving up or switching fields! I just hit my one year of nursing in L&D and I'm just now finally starting to feel confident in my abilities and to not doubt my knowledge. There's always SO much to learn which is the best part but adapting to specialty is hard!! Once you get it though its the most incredible feeling, like all your hard work and stress has been worth every shred of doubt, stress, tears, laughs, allllll of it! I love L&D now but who knows, I probably will want to experience other fields of nursing down the line and will feel like I'm starting from scratch again but I think all nurses are the same and have a sick passion for always challenging ourselves ;) We knew what we were signing up for and we'll always be lifelong learners. We really have the best job

I am a Medical Assistant and my very first and only job as an MA was in pediatrics; which was ironic because that was LITERALLY the last place I wanted to do my externship at (I didn't want to hurt the babies or kids by giving injections). Fast forward to now, I'm almost done with nursing school and I have been so overwhelmed with all the options there are. I am currently working as a MA in OBGYN and I enjoy it. However I have got to say I miss the kids and I know that it is my calling to be working as a pediatric nurse. This video made me smile because the way your face lights up when you talk about working with kids is the SAME exact way I feel when I talk about them and interact with their cute little faces. The innocents and the way they just power through being sick is amazing! Thank you for sharing your transition and making this video, I loved watching!!!

Welcome to peds! I hope you enjoy it. Peds Trauma is amazing. You learn so much about disease processes and get to use so much critical thinking. It’s also sucky when the traumas aren’t accidental (we get a lot of kids who were burned by being dunked in scalding hot water) and the patients don’t make it. I started off as a peds MA at a doctor’s office. Now that I’m in nursing school, I work as a PCT in the pediatric Trauma ICU at a level I Trauma Center a few hundred miles north of you. Our traumas are stabilized in the ED then brought up to our floor. I’m hoping to stay there once I graduate. 🤞🏾 You’re absolutely right about taking care of kids being rewarding. My favorite thing about peds is that kids just want to get back to normal. They want to get better, get out of the hospital, and go back to their lives. Since I’ve been on clinical (my only experience with adults), I haven’t seen that from adults. You’d think they thought they were in a hotel. I can’t see myself ever leaving peds for the adult population. It’s just not for me. Congrats again on your dream job!

I graduate with my RN degree in 2 months, and sometimes I still feel incompetent. I am a hairstylist and knew nothing about health care at all going into my first semester. So it was quite an adjustment for me with many tears sheds. I've learned that each semester you will gain so much knowledge and build confidenc little by little. I was not one of those naturally gifted students that read something once and listened to the lecture and automatically retained the information. I spent hours upon hours studying and as long as you give 110% every time you will make it. As Lexi verbalized nursing is not for the weak, nor is nursing school. Just take one day at a time and always give everything you got. With 2 months left I can say I am extremely exhausted 😧☠and I remember feeling the way you are currently feeling. Just know we all go through this period and you will get through it too. GOOD LUCK YOU GOT THIS!!!!!!😁

abagail archibald I’m pretty sure a hospital pays more because they are a corporation and they can afford to give you more money but a doctors office is more private even if they have the money they are limited to what they can give you. But I like a doctors office idk why but it’s more private

Fellow RN here! Just stumbled across your page and I love it! Can you provide some more detailed info about paediatric illnesses you see, disease processes/patho/pharm? Or even some scenarios you experience with trauma? Would love to hear!

I graduated in December. I really, really want to go into Peds Trauma. My husband and I are moving to a large metro area with an L1 Peds TC. It’s so competitive. I’m pretty sure I’m going to take an adult job as my first, and transition as I can. Congratulations!!

So needed this video!!! Had a bad day precepting in NICU today. I graduate in May & have a lot of experience in MSICU from a separate internship I've been doing since last year. I thrive in critical care. Neonates are a different beast, but I'm up for the challenge. I'm open to feedback/constructive criticism, etc...but I'm finding my preceptor constantly changing her expectations to the point I can never satisfy her requests. (Today) She even even had me doing med math...no problem... I did dimensional analysis...got the same answer she did; but since she did it a different way she kept trying to convert me to her way, which was confusing me. It got so bad another nurse witnessing this tried to intervene. I'm beyond frustrated. I know nurses are supposed to remain flexible, but how can I master anything with a constantly moving target? How did you handle being taught by nurses that weren't great at teaching? (This is open to anyone who has had similar experiences)

Wow you’re so passionate about your job. I love that you’re so authentic and express what you truly felt when you first started your job. I love your videos so much. I got accepted into a nursing program for spring quarter and I’m extremely excited and nervous to start. I work as a CNA at a hospital and I can’t see myself working with adults forever. Yesterday I got assigned to care for a pediatric patient and I felt so much happiness in my heart. My dream job would be working at a pediatric hospital. This video was so perfect and encouraging. Please keep us updated on your job and thank you for sharing your experience. You’re a huge inspiration to me. I’m just so happy for you. 💕

What types of diseases do you see at a level 1 trauma center? I work in pediatrics but it’s a small community hospital so we basically just see RSV, flu, little GI bugs and small surgeries. Love your videos you’re beautiful and an inspiration!!

I currently deciding if this is what I would want for my future & hearing this made me feel so much better because I had this misconception as well that nurses know everything all at once so knowing that isn’t true & is an ongoing process of growth does make me really happy that you don’t have to know everything right away & that okay as long as you continue to grow & work hard then you’ll get to where you want to be ! Thank you for this video I appreciate it a lot ! 🤗👏🏻❤️ Very encouraging & honest content. Subscribed ✅

I walked into nursing school dead set on not being in peds. I wanted adult orthopedics more than anything....1 year into school (1 year left to go) I feel so drawn to pediatric orthopedics. Still ortho, just with children. I currently work as a tech on an adult ortho unit and have learned that it's not the population I want to work with. Thank you so much for your video, gives me a good sense of pediatrics.
