So the question was, "What It's Like To Fly The World's Cheapest Personal Jet" and that was never even mentioned in the video. Some interesting numbers for the Cirrus Vision. It cruises at about 300 knots at FL 280 burning 65 gallons per hour of Jet-A. 1200 mile range is only possible with a maximum of one person on board, just the pilot. Full seats range is 650 miles. Compare this to a Socata TBM 930 turboprop that has a bigger cabin, cruises at up to 330 knots on 60 gallons per hour. The TBM 900 or 930 have a range of 1800 miles with 4 people on board. Purchase price on an airplane is not totally unimportant but operating costs are far more important than initial cost. Consider that the fuel alone for the Cirrus Vision or TBM 900 can run over $400 per hour, although at max range power the TBM 900 drops to closer to $200. But maintenance on a jet or turboprop can cost even more than fuel. Remember you are maintaining a $2 -$4 million dollar machine. Cost per hour for maintenance and fuel will run you over $500 per hour for either aircraft, so if you can't afford to buy it you surely can't afford to fly it. As an example, it would cost about $4000-$5000 to fly one way coast to coast, or about $1,000 per passenger. That's in an airplane with tiny seats and a single pilot who is not getting paid.

If I am correct, the new TBM 930 would have a price tag around 4 million. So, people get a Cessna 172, then a Cirrus SR22T, then a Cirrus Vision Jet, then the TBM 930.

Kurosu Ha The problem is the Cirrus Vision has higher operating costs than the TBM, and operating costs add up to as much or more than the interest on the investment in the plane.

strato man i think you are confusing numbers. The 930 can only go 1700nm at 250kts. You bump up to the 330 you drop down to 1440. Also that tbm can carry 800 pounds with full fuel while the cirrus is slightly lower with 500. So a little more than just the pilot. The cirrus was meant to be an upgrade for a sr22 pilot. Also find me 930 or even a 910 under 3 million with a useable life left on the engine. I also read the fuel burns are similar at max cruise for both your around 60 per hour at almost the same speed. Not knocking the tbm they are rocket ships but with every plane there is a compromise. The vision has it roll and so does the tbm.

Brad Osborne I think I posted some of the same numbers you did but, the Cirrus has much less range, roughly half or less with similar payloads and speed. The Cirrus has much less useful load and payload, a significantly small cabin, lower pressure differential, lower ceiling. All this comes with similar or higher operating costs for the Cirrus, depending on how you fly them. The bottom line is that using a jet/turbofan engine in a plane that flies as low and slow as the Cirrus is terribly inefficient. I suspect they they went with the turbofan because they thought it was cooler but from a efficiency standpoint the Vision would have performed better in every category if they had gone with a prop.

If you fly in the US single engine is definitely not a problem, you’d be able to choose several airfields at altitude, and the parachute won’t help too much not at altitude.

A citation mustang or eclipse jet can be had for less than $2 million. Love the cirrus brand but they don't have the cheapest personal jet in the market. May be the cheapest jet with only one engine.

MojoGrip Find me a brand new Eclipse 550 from One Aviation that's costs less than 2 million. I would say the same about the Citation Mustang but production has since ceased and you can no longer get a new Mustang.

I meant the 500 series. There are no 550 jets below $2 million yet but give a year or 2 and I'm sure you'll find several selling for much less, since project canada is already in the works. My point is that there are several options of preowned light and midsize jets that can be had for $2 million or less. And I say preowned because A brand new Cirrus jet fair to fully equipped will likely run you close to $3 million, not $2 million :)

You can get a used Lear 60 for about the same price. However you're looking at twin engine, so double the maintence cost and a much larger aircraft so a much larger hanger cost and its not economical for just a larger aircraft.

Cirrus' have parachutes because they lack the spin recovery characteristics required by the FAA due to their aerodynamic properties. Other aircraft are designed to recover from spins more easily and thus they can be certified without parachutes. Essentially Cirrus' only have parachutes because they could not be certified by the FAA without them.

This is possibly the closest we'll get to a flying car for now and $2 million is a rather reasonable price for such an aircraft. Perhaps this will be the direction personal aircraft will go as it becomes more accessible.

That's cheap. But the operation and maintenance costs will be very high. Parking charges at the airport, fuel, landing taxes at other airports, keeping a pilot on the payroll if you can't fly it yourself or paying for certification if you plan to self fly and so on....

The angled lift engine system is a plus for easy shortfield takeoff. This aircraft makes any pilot want to fly due to the emergency parachute deployment system. The sleek aerodynamic design is a plus for easy airflow at high speeds. However? We need a new addition to this aircraft with the same single engine capablities. I would like the new edition to include: A rear door for easy access. Skylight in the cabin and parts of the fuselage to make it's occupants feel more spacious due to visibility. A rear wash room area for long flights. Increase the rear of the fuselage more circular for easy comfort space. If these amenities are added, this aircraft will be number one in it's class for many years to come." 👍

Hate to sound like an old fogey, but one thing was definitely better in the 70's: aviation. Having a Cessna back then was like having an RV or a waterskiing boat. Now to have an aged little Piper supercub, you'd have to be a doctor with two willing lawyer friends to go in on it with you. Still a beautiful plane though.

The Cirrus Vision is not the world's cheapest personal jet by factor of 20. The Subsonex jet amateur built aircraft has been flying for a couple of years and costs around $100K. The Cirrus is a certified aircraft and much fancier.

Ok since the video didn't do it I will. I work at an do and talked to a pilot about how this thing flys. He replied ehhh. It's really squirlly. It dosnt like cross winds. Any v tail tends to this. It's hard to keep them straight at lower speeds.

There have been plenty of single engine jets before. This is just the first one that's publically accessible and also factory made. Very nice aircraft though!

I like how they say "just under 2 million" if you think about the number of millionaires they're is and many of those who fly and how many want one of these they're not going to sell to many of them. It cost me 7k just to get my pilots license. Flying is a fat Kats sport.
