I like the fact that the 911 operator took a split second to assure the caller that help was on the way. I've heard so many recordings where the operator is peppering the caller with questions, ignoring the repeated pleas of "I need an ambulance! I need EMS!" They could just say "They're on the way, I promise!" and continue collecting data. It takes less than a second and saves time overall. I really don't understand why that simple step isn't drilled into them during training.
@--_DJ_--
@--_DJ_-- 7 месяцев назад
I think at times they are deciding who should actually be sent. The caller doesn't always know who they need. But I get your point, it does save time and relieve stress on the caller, which might lead to better info being given.
@tiertroy
@tiertroy 7 месяцев назад
It’s also for liability purposes if the dispatcher Promises the ambulance is on the way before the ambulance crew call out that they are actually on the way and something happens like it won’t start or even if say they get a flat tire on the way then the dispatcher can be liable as they promised they were on the way when they really weren’t… in the academy they pound liability into you if the dispatcher says anything wrong off script or out of policy then can be held Personally liable which is a place you don’t want to be… but I get it and most dispatchers are trying to get help there ASAP

It’s amazing the lack of basic human empathy, common sense and where’s the training??? Calm the caller down, slow the pace, then get details but quickly obviously, that all can be done In 10 seconds. But I guess we’re dealing with police dispatch ! Not the longest tool or most useful in the shed!
@Oliviaandtrina

@@--_DJ_-- if you can't figure it out within a few seconds, you should probably just send everyone. It can't hurt to have police there when you need an ambulance and vice verse. If cops get there first they have at least basic first aide and CPR training and even though ems aren't detectives they can still collect info in the meantime. So it really can't hurt to send both. I honestly don't think that's why they don't say that, I think the ones who don't are just irritated and kinda over the phone call. I've heard a lot of calls where they are just super frustrated. They become cold from hearing traumatic things everyday.

AGREED 1000%. Drives me up a wall when 911 operators dont/don't assure the caller that help is otw IMMEDIATELY. (Same as when they act uninterested &/or inconvenienced). Good to know I'm not the only one.

At the hospital I worked. I admitted a 90 year old gentleman. Some of his neighborhood kids believed he had money ( simply more money than they did ) They broke into his trailer. Tied him up with exiletention cords and electrical tape. Beat him almost to death. It was a few days before he was found. He was out of his mind and severely hurt. He needed to have soft restraints to protect him. I could not bear the thought of him being restricted from movement again. He was confused, but you just know the restrictions would have caused panic on some level. I checked out and spent the night with him so he didn't need to be tied down. The next day. I made arrangements with church members to have someone with him at all times. The hopeless, loneliness he must have experienced during his ordeal haunts me. He is gone now. I hope we were able to provide him some comfort in his last days.

Paul was alert and smart (noticing spare key missing), and full of courage. He nailed his torturers. There are more and more seniors needing care workers to do home visits. Even when there is no valuables, they could still fall victim to be tortured to withdraw money from retirement accounts or CDs.
@holysecret2
@holysecret2 7 месяцев назад
The torture part is almost the most senseless thing about this (apart from the murder). If you are going to be shameless and heartless in stealing from this elderly man, at least wait for him to fall asleep or be out of house and then steal something sneakily, what is there to be gained from torturing him? It's like a thousand times the immorality and risk for maybe twice the gain? Absolutely stupid.
@paigeanguish6216
@paigeanguish6216 5 месяцев назад
@holysecret2 they didn’t want to wait until he was asleep or gone bc they wouldn’t be able to get in the safe, if the key was missing i thought they could have got in tho, maybe still needed the combination since it was stated they tortured him to get info ab the safe. im sure they could’ve got away w his car without entering his home even, you can start cars without a key, but no that wouldn’t be enough to them. they enjoyed the horror they put that man through. they felt his life wasn’t worth him living, he was less than due to age 😢 when in reality hes in the category of the most vulnerable in our society, a man who was likely forced into war like many vietnam vets, lived comfortably & had nice things bc he earned it, unlike those junkies. it’s incomprehensible how someone can do this, for material gain, no regard for the human life taken. he mattered & his memory will live on, he wasn’t just a murder victim, he was a fighter, he was resilient, he was loved, they will never come close to even a portion of who he was in their lifetime. my heart breaks for him, every murder victim breaks my heart but elderly & children, disabled victims..idk it just hits different knowing how vulnerable & defenseless they are 😢

@georgeforeman1097
@georgeforeman1097 2 месяца назад
Sometimes . It depends. Everyone is different. Some people say honestly all the time and its a normal vocab word for them. If they say it once and it feels out of place then its pretty safe to assume they want you to beleive what they are about to say and are probably lying. But there is also the pretty common phenomenon of people actually will seem like they are lying, even though telling the truth, if they think that you think they are lying. So its all really hard to tell. There is an entire science behind behavioral analysis.

Imo it's up to communities to create this kind of respect and protection of it's vulnerable members, humans are meant to live as a community, one doesn't need the "powers that be" or their permission to be a part of a connected and caring community, It doesn't take great malice to do great harm, a lack of empathy and understanding are sufficient.

Statistically, it's not getting worse, at least in the US. But, we now have up-close-and-personal media which can be produced by just about anyone, and there are now so many more versions. It makes us more aware of criminal events, but it isn't an indicator of how often these things are happening.

My suggestion for Bruce's son who does produces these videos, when your dad (and the audience) is watching the video, make the video even larger and your dad smaller on the screen. Everyone deserves a vigorous defense. If the Defense Lawyer does his job, along with the judge, jury, prosecutor, then the conviction will be less likely to be overturned. If the Defense Lawyer does a half ass job, the defendant can file an appeal which could result in a retrial or overturned verdict.
@christianc.christian5025
@christianc.christian5025 7 месяцев назад
It’s funny to me that so many people blame defense attorneys for representing guilty clients, but virtually none of these people focus their energy on the number of prosecutors who knowingly prosecute either innocent or ‘not guilty’ defendants - meaning they take someone guilty of some BS charge like improper lane usage and try to charge them with reckless driving. Really pathetic view of the court system to see prosecutors as “public servants” but defense attorneys as “the lawyers defending dirtbags.”
@holysecret2
@holysecret2 7 месяцев назад
@@christianc.christian5025 There's also a bunch of stories of people who almost certainly were guilty, or even had admitted to crimes in some way, but were ultimately proven innocent. Or worse yet, were proven innocent years, decades after the fact after they were falsely convicted. There is a video of another defense lawyer recollecting one of his earlier cases where he led his client to a false guilty verdict out of his own belief in his client's guilt, and he realized too late that he had been wrong and his client had been truly innocent. As a defense lawyer, you are obligated to believe in your client's innocence until their guilt is proven beyond a reasonable doubt. You have to uphold that standard in every case, so that it can apply to everyone equally.

As an in home care giver/private nurse, this case makes me so angry. Do we know where everything in their home is? That depends on if the company we work for also have us provide housekeeping. "Light" housekeeping is never light. I've worked jobs that required shampooing carpets, emptying out closets etc every 3 to 6 months. And here's how she would've known EXACTLY what was in his safe as well. The company would have to be insured & bonded, plus she would've had to pass a background check. Every clients home would be required to have a detailed list of valuables made. She would be made aware of what is on this list & if she ever notices an item goes missing she is to call & report it to the office right then & there. We can't even accept a gift from clients, no matter how small unless the children are notified & permission given. For her to even so much as mention what is in a client's home unethical. Even if her contract didn't expressly state that she wasn't allowed to. She needs to be charged with 1st degree murder, the same as her cousin. And I have to leave it at that because what I really want to say about her & what she did to her client, to this client's gamily who will now forever feel so guilty for hiring this company, would violate polite community guidelines.

Regarding stupidity of criminals, I knew someone who was studying criminology. A part of their studies involved interviewing inmates. She said she had countless offers like "Hey I'm getting out soon, got a great plan, you want in?" She said she'd tell them, "Well, you got caught last time, didn't you?" Besides it is probably not the best move if you really have a good plan to start talking about it to somebody you just met.

Received permission to repeat this. My buddy shared this video with me and said it really hit home for them. My bud has a family member which is in jail now and did almost the same thing and the guy flat-lined. It was shared months later after it happen and boy it was a shock. My buddy then went to the internet and located all that had happen and even the news reports. This *kid* is getting out when 76 years old. So senseless and dumb. Though, it goes to show for my buddy's family member was hanging around the wrong people which can influence you in more ways than you know. Retired teacher here. I spent many years working with extremely high rish, over age high school students. One time, my guys decided to rob a house while the owners were at work. They were nervous so they got high before they broke in. They piled the valuables by the front door, and then decided they were hungry so they raided the kitchen. They then decided they were tired so they settled into the living room to watch TV. (They hadn't unplugged the tv yet.). They promptly fell asleep. Meanwhile, the home owner comes home, walks into his house, and sees a bunch of teenagers passed out in his living room with his valuables piled by the front door. Man quietly walks out of his house and calls 911. Cops come, take one look and laugh hysterically before arresting the group. (They had to wake them up to arrest them.). Fortunately, no one was hurt, but teens and young adults are stupid!

Bruce's son, will, throughout his life, ALWAYS be: Michael Rivers Content Genius. These two are so sweet. I love that Michael has noticed that his father is a bit of a character, and that Bruce is happy to do all the filming with Michael. Even the way this channel started was sweet. Bruce knew that Michael was interested in rap music, and therefore HE wanted to take an interest in what his son was interested it. And the natural way for him to do that, was through the lens of where rap artists intersect with Bruce's world: the Courtroom. It is so nice when you see parents really wanting to know things about the subjects in which their children are engrossed. A parent can provide love, support, and comfort to their children, and be really great parents. But not all parents take the time or make the effort to really try to understand their children's worlds - the things that they are invested in, interested in, moved by, whatever the case. ALSO...not all children would welcome their parents doing so. It is a sign of a really nice relationship. And look how it grew from that start, to where they, and all of us subscribers and viewers are now.

I'm a Navy veteran with a few medical problems. I'm only 55 now but don't have my own family. (husband/kids) I do have extended family mostvare my age or older. I worry about when I get old, whose going to check on me. I may likely be at the mercy of caregivers. The thought is scary. Even if it doesn't rise to that level, it hard to think about.
