Thank you for covering this. I was in a bank one day and overheard an elderly gentleman talking to the cashier and he was clearly being scammed. Same scam my dad almost fell for 6 months prior. I'm sad to say that the cashier didn't pick up on it, but I alerted the branch manager who took action. They later thanked me for stepping in. Stay safe out there

Good for you. I’m surprised that the teller didn’t notice, they are supposed to be trained on that. But you don’t have to be smart to get a job as a bank teller.

Never answer calls from numbers not in the contacts list on your phone. If you don't have a contact list, let calls from unfamiliar numbers go to voicemail. If its important, they'll leave a message. Answering calls you don't recognize is asking for trouble.

Did you see in the other segment that AI can use a name that you know and put it on the phone call - you can't just trust that anymore! Basically, you can't be badgered into giving out sensitive information at all and you have to independently verify any of the information on these calls.

This recently happened to my 84 year old grandma. Someone called her saying that I got into an accident and went to jail for texting and driving, and that I was on a $7k bail. She was worried sick. My mom went to every jail in town to see if I was in their system but I wasn’t, bc this never happened, it was just a scam. My grandma asked the scammer for his number and he hung up. Luckily my family didn’t give him any money but still, stories like this are scary.

Good on them. Once they realised they had been targeted by a scam artist they may have kept it to themselves out of shame, they do. They've helped so many people. If they did a fundraiser to try to recuperate their lost savings I would definitely offer them a donation. Its bad enough that people do these things but to target members of our society that least can afford to, its a low I will never understand. I know what poor feels like so I could never subject someone to the same predicament.

Several family members have had these calls. The first time my MIL was a mess, calling and crying. Thank goodness she did not give them any money. They are like any con artist...They know how to get people to say names, and then they know the name to feed to them and break their heart. The best thing to do is talk to relatives BEFORE they get a call like this.Explain that they are going to try and scam . In my case, it was an under age child who went to a foreign country without parents, or without letting family know??? Assure them that you will inform them of any trips that are going to be taken, so they aren't "taken"

I was a drug addicted escort for years and while in active addiction a scammer called my old Italian grandmother and pretend to be me saying I had been arrested and needed bail money. My grandmother knew it was possible but she knew I wouldn't be calling her to ask so she called my parents and they called me. I was partying in my motel room alive and ... well? 🤔

My mom once fell for one of these scams, but not the grandparent scam mind you, it was a computer scam from someone calling demanding money to help debug her computer where she gave over $16k to the scammer, but FORTUNATELY her bank was able to spot that that transaction looked suspicious and they gave her her money back.

@nicholasrosen6342

The 2 major red flags in these grandparent scams are: 1. Demanding money 2. Being told by their "grandchild" that they don't want them to notify their parents because they'll get mad.

No, back in our day we didn't have thieves calling us everyday or walking down the street with a device that can read your credit cards through your wallet inside your purse, as a matter of fact it didn't happen at all, the news was more honest too, so this has been a steep learning curve, but we are learning. These people love their grandchild, that's why they didn't say no, hope you are lucky enough to have grandparents that love you too!

God loves you and takes care of you so that this message reaches you. God is the one who created this great universe and has complete control over it. And the greatest loss that a person loses in this life is that he lives while he does not know God who created him, knowing the Messenger of Muhammad, the last of the messengers, and the Islamic religion, the last of the heavenly religions. The great intelligence, before you believe in something or not, is to read it, study it, and understand it well, and then you have the choice to believe in it or not. I advise you on this now before you do not have time to do that.
