Such a humble guy.. I flew to dallas from Los Angeles and I told my family to go to his shop. We where at his clothing shop and ask the clerk if richard was around and she said he was in his office on a phone call so I decided to leave,as soon as I'm leaving he comes out and say I'm not about to let you leave without a photo. He even signed my shirt!
Say what you want about his on-air personality or even the quality of the cars they sell, this guy is smart. He knows how to sell his brand and has succeed.
Harpoon_Bakery it’s his business that he built why would he give something away like that. I think Aaron was showed the respect he deserved and when he felt like he wasn’t getting what he wanted he was allowed to go with no hard feelings and continued respect. He was not entitled to a part of that business. At the end of the day he was what he was and that was a employee.
Love this show. It's over produced but in a good way. Theres no mock macho bullshit or idiots shouting at each other for no reason. No shoe horned in drama. It's got a great down to earth vibe. Richard seems like a cool guy. I wish him and GMG continued success.
its amazing how he gives the bearded wonder so much credit. dont think i have ever seen anyone give their mechanic that much credit people in his position usually just take all the credit.
Richard Rawlings and his team make my evenings a much nicer watch. I so wish I could come into some doh so as I could ask him to create a one off. New season starting here on Monday and I so hope that KC is still part of the show. What a top bloke. Love you guys, keep it up.
Kudos to the Dallas Morning News. I have never seen such as well produced interview come out of a TV news station, and DMN is a newspaper. We have infinite bandwidth, we don't need thirty second interviews with no content! I really appreciate the interviewer, crew and post team on this piece. Also I love Richard and Aaron. Such a great show, and I'm not even a car fan.
My Dad met this guy at the race track a while back during the nationals. He is just like he is on the show. Seems like a legit dude who is very funny and friendly.
giving credit and treating someone the right way are two totally different things. Aaron should have been part owner, i just can't for the life of me figure out why he was not "cut-in" ...he was the lifeblood of the fab part of the operation.
Richard is a stand up cat! I got to meet him at his restaurant in 2015 when he was unveiling the Pontiac he built for his buddies down under, the man will shake everyone’s hand he can, stop and take a shot with you, etc. this interview really shows the man I got to meet.. genuine to the core! He was just able to push his brand to the stand out/show stopper that it is. He had the drive and tools to do it. Great guy all around!
Richard Rawlings is the most HONEST and ORIGINAL dude on the planet! He keeps it real because he's had nothing. He's also got everything right now. He knows not to shit where he eats and to take care of those who made it possible for him to be as successful as he is today. No ONE person is EVER successful by themself. It will always require a collaboration or help in some way from some other place. He recognizes that and that's why I'd like to have a beer and share a doobe with him!! AND AARON!!
Glad to see the success that has come with y'alls hard work. I wish I had the knowledge, skills & abilities of these guys. Love the show & the work you do!! Two thumbs up!!
JoeGo101 Yeah it is.....and it's great....just imagine though how many thousands of guys tried and didn't make it? The "theme" in america is if you work hard, you'll make it...umm no....it isn't only hard work....it is hard work, knowing the right people, having the right experience and, as Warren Buffet says, a whole boat load of luck... Yeah, him winning those races put his name out there......skill? yeah...but a WHOLE lotta luck.....speeding down the highway at double the speed limit and NOT getting caught by the cops played just as much part in his win as his skill.... A good example of this is: I forget which car it was...but if he didn't have it done on x day, he'd lose the bet and $50,000.00...imagine if on the way back from the paint shop or wherever, the truck got hit and the car ruined? (like that beautiful mustang in that one episode).....there goes $50K...... Not a lot of people admit it, but there's a boat load of luck involved in "making" it.......
This little interview goes back to how I started out. I am a hands on guy but little business sense (lack the patience for paper work and phone calls). I started out 30 odd yrs ago building houses and taking home about $500 a week. give r take depending on hours worked. I wasn't happy nor going to get "rich" bringing home $500 a week. I started bringing home scrap wood and made bird houses, mail boxes, trinket boxes, blanet boxes and hope chest. As i made fuck ups and fuck ups and more fuck ups I learned to understand wood and the grain an how it would behave. My $15 bird houses went to $20-30 etc. My blanket boxes/hope chest went from $50-$150 to $500 all because I was learning how wood worked (and the finishes). I am sure if i had stayed at wood working I would be where i am now financially but my passion was in cars and I bought a 84 monte carlo which had a 350 4 bolt already. I took that car to the bones. I sold off the rims to offset the cost. I worked that car for 8 mths near every night and weekends. sold it and tripled my coin. i was ughh at the time spent to only get 3x my money back but at the same time i loved every min of what I was doing. I bought a rx7 after that and put a 3.8 buick turbo into it. painted it and sold that for 5x more than I paid for it and the engine/trans. Divorced my 1st wife because she hated how much I was ignoring her lol . (the sex was boring as fuck anyway so did't matter anyway lol) Point is as I have already got long winded. Is there is always a way to escape working for someone else and making them money. Everyone has a talent or passion but don't expect to open shop and everyone within 1000 miles know who you are just because you opened up shop. Took me near 30+ yrs to build a name in custom work. But I will say I do not advertise at all and I am usually that busy I have to force myself to not work a 12-14 hour day or take a saturday off. If you want it bad enough you will punch in the time and effort.
I really liked the interviewer in this piece. The fact that he has a legitimate interest in cars made the whole thing feel that much more sincere. Good on ya, Dallas Morning News.
Richard and Arron both seem like the type of guys you would want to go have a Beer with. They seem genuine all the way unlike other tv builders . Would love to meet these lads. Great show! Never miss an episode
Having a Richard Rawlings in Australia as a business partner would of made a huge difference in my 38yrs in the motor trade. Ah well 54 still going after it regardless😉😊👍👍
THe cars are junk, people are paying for the name right now which will cost them immensely in the long run. And this video is a lie, he got into the car business solely to get a show! As soon as this show is canceled the cars will plummet in value! Real car guys won't buy them! THe whole "empire" as he calls it will crumble because it's all built on the name.
Glen Haley now I do agree, when the show is cancelled he's gonna have HUGE problems, he has restaurants, a NHRA team one car in each class, and a fucking Tequilla business. He's overextended himself. See OCC Choppers, soon as Discovery dumped the show, 3 yrs later bankruptcy
Richard is a pretty nice guy if you can get him off of his cell phone. He's always working some kind of deal. Since Aaron doesn't have to worry about all that he is much more approachable and a very great guy to talk to. My brother and I had the pleasure of meeting them both a few years ago during one of their first season builds. It was a great experience to meet them both. As long as they can keep the Drama low (and hopefully no fake drama) they'll do well.
Richard & Aron have inspired me over the years to get off my backside and get stuff done so ill always thank them from here is london England , and richards book really does tell you how he started out with nothing to what he is today , this is one of best quality's of America is that they inspire & encourage success rather than the in uk who like to create celebs & then cant wait knock em down if their successful ?
Richard is a very smart business minded person that was a great concept for a person who loves cars , was In marketing or printing and the idea of a TV show to build high quality builds is awesome now to have some money to start and to get paid by the network helps big time with making sure your around for a while . And it is great Arron gets most of the credit I am a ASE Master Tech and love watching him you can see his perfection and eye for detail . This is a great show .
I HAVE A 1953 Buick I have pictures it’s FOR SALE CALL 210-557-7716 I payed 15 Thousand for it guy screwed me. Need to SALE to pay for my cremations I am very sick 😷 cancer, copd, on Oxygen, Insulin Diabetic. Email me MsSexyLdyThang59@aol.com
Me and my friend are going to open up a hot rod garage, and this video actually helps a lot some day you are going to hear about us on TV and RU-vid everybody just wait.
Just had time to watch this you are amazing please stop by and see KC And say hi just some old guy up here in Michigan that watches a lot of RU-vid videos and works on cars nice job
He's douchey on the show. Seems genuine here. Everything he said here is pretty much spot on. Show is overproduced. Maybe his fault, maybe the network, maybe both. It's a "reality" show. That's what they do. Over produce. Like he said, you guys that are hard core gear heads would watch a str8 up frame off car build show without the personality thrown in. They want the wives and kids to watch. That's why the show is so popular. That's why he acts like an ass on TV. That's why Roadkill fans and other car show fans don't like him. Btw, Roadkill is great, but they choose to appeal to a specific audience. If Velocity or Discovery or History channel told the Roadkill guys, hey, just act like Rawlings a little bit more and we'll throw you a cable show and a few mill every episode, I think they would go for it. I'm not knocking them, but who the hell wouldn't?
Road kill builds junk cars. can't Compare to gas money's builds. and yes Richard is a money hungry dude but don't we all wish we were in his shoes?? exactly
honestly I'd rather be in david Freibergers shoes. they build "junk" but the show is called roadkill..... they build awesome junk though, but their super bee and 67 camaro aren't junk. vettekart is sick too.
They didn't follow any rules roadkill listed. The car had to be within a certain weight. They went UNDER that weight. The suspension was supposed to be stock. They back halved the frame. Richard was supposed to be the driver. And Aaron drove. I'm full of shit? Why don't you actually do some research before you say something. You have no clue what you're talking about.
The best part was that they each have their areas of expertise. How many vehicles/clients did Aaron bring in and/or sell for profit or bankroll during all those shows? How much manual work did RR do on those cars?
i love you're show it's not boring not like american chopper full of drama..this show is funny and love richard for what he does and drink beer lot's of beer...from the philippines
Rick, you're one of the truly coolest guys that I' ve seen on T.V. You're like A younger Paul LeMat/ Henry Winkler/ Brad Pitt mix of coolness. GasMonkey is a sturdy brandname b.c. your skillset is a backable commodity. Peace, bro. Sensei Rick.
+white shadow You think running the business is easy? Do you think Aaron could build all those cars without Richard's money? Aaron had the skill but that means nothing without money and someone to back you.
I agree with him on the fact that most other tv shows build really expensive cars and really rare cars is good to see a show who builds cars fro regular people like me
The most honest interview ever!!!÷ If only our President, senators, corporate America and every other money grubber would speak the truth I might sleep at night thinking "hey at least he/she is honest"! Nope, everyone who makes more money than this guy doesn't want you to know. Plus, he's into cars and everyone else that he surrounded himself with!!!!!
I don't understand the hate for the show. It could be worse, it could be "pimp my ride" They build kickass cars. He makes good money flipping cars. All the comparisons of this with RoadKill is just stupid. Not even the same type of show. I am a fan of both. Haters are morons.
In 2012 I met Richard in D.C. at the Auto show. Fast & Loud was premiering nobody was at his booth at the time and the odd thing is 2 days before this we were emailing each other on a 59 Impala I had at the time. We never did agree on a price but would have been neat to see it get restored on TV...59 Impala Tuxedo Black on Red with a 3 on the tree.
Richard why don't you come and visit Australia we have some sweet rides down under and I have shipped lots of Aussie muscle cars into the U.S plus some rare American too . As long as you can handle driving from the opposite side of the car .We love your show and all of your crew are very talented.Come for beers and take home some cool cars
He's so different here... On TV he seems like a big pair of balls walking around, but now you notice that those balls have feet and they are DOWN TO EARTH.
Richard has come a long way from the start of his show. And I hope some of you haters realize that a lot of what he does is just to project a certain image for the show, he seems like a personable and intelligent guy off camera.
