Joaquin grew up in a cult that encouraged adults to have sex with children and he watched his brother die of a drug overdose right in front of him. His 911 call trying to save his life was played all over TV and is still accessible on the Internet. I can't imagine the trauma and pain he carries around with him on a daily basis.
"This guy has inhumane discipline. He just ate an apple and smoked cigarettes. And on set, he never looked at you." Good news guys, i have inhumane discipline.
I admire Joaquin Phoenix and his acting tremendously. In 8mm (a disturbing film), Gladiator (a masterpiece of acting), Joker, I Walk The Line, the list goes on and on. Superb talent.
He’s definitely one of the best there is. His joker was amazing, had no idea what he was going to do scene to scene cause he played a mentally disturbed person so well..
It was so obvious to me that I was watching an Oscar-worthy performance when I saw this movie. His performance truly had everything: the poise, the spontaneity, the believability and the nuanced cadence of a master craftsman… Bryan Callen really was exceptional in Joker.
Joaquin Phoenix was in a similar and equally good movie just prior to The Joker called You Were Never Really Here. He plays a PTSD veteran who now works as a contract killer who specializes in brutally killing pedophiles. It is pretty dark and pretty much a modern version of Taxi Driver. It is a really good movie. Super dark.
I like that movie , but my favorite recent Joaquin film would have to be “Don’t worry , He won’t get far on foot “ which came out in 2018 ( between “Never Really Here” and Joker) it’s an amazing movie and one of my all time favorite performances from Joaquin .. heartbreaking movie and a must watch
He is a spectacular actor, one of the best of his generation. It’s been amazing to see him go from strength to strength, playing offbeat / anti hero characters…
Joaquin pheonix played the role as joker perfectly. The movie, the soundtracks, the atmosphere, the theme, the realness, the depression, the scenes, everything was perfect. Joker was and still is a good movie
@@yoholmes273 Isn’t fruit slang for gay? Joaquin Phoenix isn’t gay. He’s in a relationship with Rooney Mara and they have a son together. He’s also really into martial arts and has been since he was young.
Joker is one of the most powerful, well made comic book movies of all time, the story, beautifully shot and filmed, everything was top notch. Todd Philip’s created a masterpiece, Joaquin Phoenix nailed the role of Joker 👏👏👏
That's not nice. A person can't hold his own and give a salient criticism or opinion without having 10 thousand Instagram followers? The whole Joe Rogan brand started with him talking to people he loves.
@@themanwhoknewtoomuch6667 I'm getting ready to watch 🏈🏈🏈 but I wanted to reply to your comment. The zeitgeist mantra is "diversity is our strength", DIE=diversity, inclusive and equity. The politicians and media people screaming the loudest sadly do not allow any other opinions or perspectives other than their own echo chamber talking points. Have you noticed several Republicans are secretly Democrats but you never see Democrats who are secretly Republicans? So-called wedge issues, they divide America...by design. Whether it's migrants, abortion, trans agenda, etc. there is no "middle" ground. The power of the media to mold and shape public opinion is real. Example: giving Zelensky $billions of dollars with zero oversight. Sadly, we are no longer the "united" states but rather the divided states. 💉😷 Fooled alot of people, so-called green, sustainable energy is a scam as well. Meteorologists cannot successfully predict a precise course of a hurricane 5 days off the coast yet we are to believe their dire predictions years and decades from now are correct? Go back and listen to Al Gore predictions, all wrong. That's my two cents, time for breakfast.
@@themanwhoknewtoomuch6667he’s probably referring to the fact that hes both not a good actor and has been repeatedly exposed as rapey asf. On top of that his comedy is so bad that he has to podcast with brendan schaub. I get the sentiment of what you’re saying but bryan callen might be the worst example to use
@@Richard-Espanol Joaquin was apparently already quite a bit loopy before River died, I read an article some time ago that Lea Thompson avoided him on the set of Space Camp, when he was about ten or so, because of his bizarre behavior.
After first couple minutes of that movie I also realized that I'm looking at an Oscar worthy performance. Walking out of theatre with friends first thing we discussed was his performance and how he should get like 10 Oscars for this lol. Joaquin is just on another level
Meanwhile Jared Leto legit broke down crying that everyone hated his joker performance. Joaquin Phoenix improvised and brought 100% while Leto was just being a creep leaving rats and animal carcasses in people’s trailers. Just shows how out of touch Leto was with the character of the joker
It goes to show that when you method act and bring your real emotions and experiences through acting into your performance, you get a masterpiece. Ledger and Phoenix both made the Joker legendary
Next week Schaub will be saying how Phoenix ran into him in an elevator, complimented his comedy career, play wrestled with him and gave him a noogie before Brendan gave him a motivational speech to get him into character for the Joker.
@@at8630 Jack is also super underrated. Robin Williams as well. Both could pull off the funnies and the serious roles too. Michael Shannon, Willem Dafoe, Juaquin Phoenix, and Chris Evans are my top 4 currently. Where I know I don't have to read the script that they're in and I know they'll do the story right. Even if the script or character is lacking. I'd say Chris Evans is the best personality actor right now. Personality meaning he imbues a certain characteristic into the character he's playing and makes the watchers feed into that characters personality. Going back to Snowpiercer being the one that woke me up to his personality acting abilities.
@@zaynes5094 I like all those actors too, but Joaquin acts as if his life is on the line. His level of fear fuels his work on set. I can’t help but respect that more than the others. His body won’t move if it’s fake, or stale or scripted, he’s a true artist.
@@zaynes5094 I like Chris Evans but I really don't understand how one can speak about acting talent and include Joaquin Phoenix and Chris Evans in the discussion. One is a mainstream pretty face with comedic ability and a ripped to shreds body, the other is possibly the finest male artist on screen of the last 25 years. Certainly in the debate with MAYBE a handful of others that are in the running (I'd include Daniel Day-Lewis, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Christian Bale).
I guess im the only one who thinks joaquin phoenix, and the joker movie are completely over-rated. Blows my mind that anyone would compare that to christian bale in the fighter which was excellent
How is anything he said false? Extras don't have lines and stand in the background. Bryan Callen did have lines in at least 2 scenes of the movie I can remember. That's more than most people can say. Callen probably spent more time with Phoenix than most of the other co-stars like Brian Tyree Henry or Brett Cullen.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Todd Phillips first commercial project "Hated: The GG Allin Story" which is an EXCELLENT documentary into the last months of GG Allin's life and how rowdy of a punk rocker he was.
*I remember reading on Reddit YEARS AGO* that: 1) Tom Cruise is psychotically nice and takes interest in the smallest thing you do. 2) Sam Jackson is REALLY into P0rn 3) Joaquin seemed like a guy who wanted to be friends with you but was severely self conscious *A couple years later* that “Hentai” Sam Jackson interview dropped 🤨
@genises200 - there’s a autocomplete interview and he’s asked “do you watch anime?” And he responds with “Yes. I. Do. Hentai too” then laughs like a madman 💀 legend.
There a very few movies I'm grateful to have seen in theaters and Joker was a absolute masterpiece that I'm so glad to have seen on the big screen! Bryan was so good in the movie you could barely tell it was Bryan Callen!
"Could the government keep it secret?" That is such a trope! If its real then they obviously couldn't! If they could keep it secret... IT WOULD BE SECRET! Jeeez
Tod Philips is one of my favorite directors as well. All three Hangover films are fantastic. Tod also directed the original GG Allin documentary way back in the 90s! That's an insane journey in an of itself...
If you liked Joaquin Phoenix's performance in Joker, you would fall in love with him in Beau is afraid, which I found the most bizarre film I've ever seen.
Joker is still one of the most immersive and concise movies I have see . I feel everything they needed too show was shown to tell the story. It was something special.
@@conversationstranglersteve9873 schaub was using Joes name in the comedy scene to get things and threaten people (like Bobby Lee) schaub hasn’t been on jre or invited to the mothership since that whole thing

Joker was an all time great performance from a high level actor. That role is just something else. I'd say the same thing for Heath Ledger in the dark knight. Jared Leto fumbled it tho
OK, since you have seen Phoenix and Ledger, which one played the character better? I haven't seen Joker, but Heath Ledger as Joker was in my humble opinon, the absolute best performance I have ever seen from an actor, no matter the style of movie.
@@im1sickpup269 Watch Joker. It was a really good movie. I only go to theaters once every year or two (if that), but I went to see it and was totally worth it. Hard to compare the two “Jokers” because The Dark Knight trilogy is showing Batman’s human side, whereas Joker is showing the villain’s human side. I think if Heath tried Phoenix’s role, he would have failed and vice versa. Theyre both equally great in their roles
To me Heath played the definitive version of the Joker. Every angle of the character was covered. He was perfect and felt real. I don't think anyone will ever top his version.
@JoshuaCastillo6309 I actually think the opposite. Heath Ledgers Joker was more like an entity of chaos whereas Joaquins felt more realistic in the sense that it was a guy beaten down by life and driven to madness by his misery
Love Joaquin . . . However . . . The Joker movie was the worst representation of who joker is ever. Joker is a criminal mastermind. Not a frail sociopath with no confidence and lack of MASTERMIND qualities. Dont hate me cuz its true.
Everytime I hear the word 'Oscars' I get pissed off again for Toni Collette not even nominated for her performance in 'Hereditary'. You can quit now, Oscars. You have no credibility left. Especially now with the insane DEI enforced regulations.
I know what he means about from just seeing him walk; I saw something special in the trailers of Joker in two moments that really stick in my mind. 1. That moment when he's walking through the cheering crowd pumping his fist with them while his body language somehow makes it really obvious that the character doesn't fully get it, and is partially just imitating what's happening around him but is still feeling... something that he doesn't recognise and probably couldn't name. 2. That moment he sees the guy in the clown mask drive by in the taxi and he has a look of... I don't even know what to call it... on his face, but again the viewer immediately understands it. Since each of those moments is only about a second long, it takes a hell of a lot of skill to be able to pack in that much information, but he made it look effortless.
Park City was a decent place for working Utah until Kali ran them out of their own town to make room for trophy McMansions, like Moab, Aspen & Santa Fe. Ted Kacynski was right. It took Berkeley to make him realize it. He did the math.
Mr. Rogan, I have a story for you because I'm a victim of child trafficking. My story needs to be heor please help me out, sir. And I have all the proof.
It's odd that Todd Phillips only started getting real credit after the Joker. His comedies such as Old School and Hangover are brilliantly written. For some reason people don't recognise talent for making you laugh, just when you get depressed or creeped out.
@@mrjon75 if you like stuff like Bad Teacher, School For Scoundrels, The Hangover, etc you'll dig it for sure. RDJ doesnt do many straight ahead comedies like that anymore
I Worked with Mr Phoenix on photoshoot. The shoot wasn’t going well so He grabbed a cup and filled it with gasoline out of his motorcycle & lit himself on fire several times (all his idea). He didn’t think that was good enough so he started running and jumping into a wall at full speed (again all his idea). I thought for sure he was going to leave in ambulance, but he got bored and just left. He was super nice & we got some amazing photos.
The joker is the worst movie ever. I was expecting a batman flick and got a mental illness movie. Great actor great acting but horrible storyline for a batman franchise
Yeah Joker was a good ass movie in my opinion. I might watch that shit today as a matter of fact. I'ma go to Bojangles....No.... McDonald's....I'ma go to McDonald's and get me a Mcgriddle for breakfast and come back and watch Joker. Hell yeah.
I grew up in a one bedroom apartment with my mom and dad and my brother and sister. I am definitely well liked. Even though nobody knows that fact about me.
If only Heath Ledger was still alive, all of those Oscars would be his. Joaquin Phoenix plays a good crazy, more realistic Joker but Ledger was THE Joker.
@@manilove2pwnyou liked your own comment which is also depressing lol exactly why that movie points out mental health. Now imagine it with social media…
I thought it was good.. but I wouldn’t put it in a top 10 or anything.. felt like an original character who had been tweaked to fit the Batman universe.
I remember watching it Thurday night the week of release before pretty much antone . Me and my best friend have been Batman Stans since we were young young. (Were early 20’s now). We didn’t even plan on watching it that night , we just decided to bc we said screw it . Theater empty for the most part but best movie experience I’ve ever had .
