It all depends. It can. You get use to changing your stroke. I have to do that anyways because I also have my measuring board on the outside of my H-Rail. If it wasn’t for my trailer setup what I would rather do and will make the paddle tighter to the boat is the following. Get 2 hrail Hobie adapters from YakAttack. Have them sideways so they are away from the boat and add the rotogrip adapters to the hrail adapters and not use the double header. Then the paddle will be tight to the boat and only the rotogrips would be sticking out which is not much. Hope this was clear enough of what I am trying to say.
Loosen it up and turn it into the kayak if you are going to paddle for awhile. That's what I did recently when I had to pull up the pedal drive and paddle thru rapids.
The measuring board holder is made by Yak Gadget. They make a version for track system and I have the version for H-Rail. Simple pieces of cut plastic. Works perfect.
You are going to have a blast on that especially with the motorguide. With everything else I have going on and money going out the door I had to go with Bixpy for now. I love that motor too. But yes the motorguide will be a blast!! Enjoy and keep me updated. The Hobie 180 is a solid platform that is proven. I have had no problem with mine and I am not gentle on it. Good choice.
That PA 14 is a blast, and the 180 drive is excellent. I ended up selling mine cause it was a little more boat than I wanted, but I had no complaints on the water.
