I’m still learning and have a way to go but I managed to get about 95% right so I’m really chuffed!! My ultimate goal is to play with a band and this is a great bit of knowledge to have ; thanks guys xx

Thanks for showing us that Jamie and Jasmine. I never thought of doing that and have always struggled with finding the key. I got about 15 right so it should work for me 75% of the time!

What's the opposite of perfect pitch? Because that's what I have! Even if I could hum the right note, I wouldn't be able to say what it is. Having said that, keep up the good work.

It's called Relative pitch, most who say they have perfect pitch, really have great relative pitch.

Maybe 4 to 5 correct, good exercise. I had a clarinet teacher many moons ago and she had perfect pitch.

Thanks. Perfect pitch is not as important as relative pitch. By the way, perfect pitch is very rare, and no more common among musicians than among the general population.

@@GetYourSaxTogether Are you doing it yourself? I had a “soundproof “ music room (shed) built in my garden a few months ago. I love it. After 16 years I finally have some where I can play as loud as I want, spread out all my toys and spend time trying to become a better musician. Only issue is the internet is rubbish. So doing the improvisation master course is difficult.

very cool. I got them all! Interestingly though, I only heard the major tonic when you said it could be either or. I like Jasmine's method of "where is this going". That's probably how I do it unconsciously. Before adopting Jasmine's method, I'd often land incorrectly on the perfect 5th.

Wow. This is a fantastic exercise! Genius idea! I did the first 10 and had to stop due to a time constraint. I will do those 10 over and the rest a bit later. I guessed something on nearly every one and I was right about 50% of the time. No chance on #8 - for that one I could even come up with a guess. No note entered my head at all for #8

I loved this!!! I had to watch the second half a few times. I feel a little rusty, I got lucky number 13! Not too shabby for not training my ear regularly, I get to practice more and more!! Everyone in my family thought I was a little crazy actually knowing some of it lol Also LOVED the special guest, great musician!!

wow amazing ears! i cannot get what note it is by hearing it. do you have any more beginner exercises to learn how to train the ear to recognize notes? Also confused with transposition from piano (C) to sax (Eb), do you do that on the spot or the notes you mentioned are not transposed. Sorry for the naivety, i am at the beginning of my music journey.

Do you think people are born with musical ear able to identify pitches, notes, or it can be learned by most of us :-) It seems so tough.... i have the ultimate respect for the abilities of musicians, only now i realise how much work and efforts it takes to learn music...

Hello Jamie, I need an explanation, how can you tell if a track is played in this key when the chords are changing every seconds ? In jazz for example everything moves so fast, I mean, it's never the same key, it often switch from minor to major so how can we define the key ? Thanks.

Nice idea, but it presumes you know what the note sounds like and not really useful for the vocally challenged :-) Also wasn't sure whether I was supposed to be guessing the concert pitch note or the transposed sax note.

Hi Pete - not 100% what you mean by “presumes you know what the note sounds like”? I’m not presuming anything, especially not vocal skills. Listen to my voice!! 😭 I think maybe you’re over thinking it. You don’t need to get the name of the note, just sing it. Forget sax pitch or concert pitch, just go “laaaaaah” on the right key note. 😊
