Thank you for telling people that sugar is bad for them. My Slinky is on a total raw diet too, and telling ppl that chicken is best for treats, thumbs up. Not too many people know enough good things about ferrets. I'm on a forum called "Ferret Love", and went on there to get knowledge on raw diet. I researched Google for training and got a link to you. :)
My ferret don’t like chicken and neither does he likes his chicken treats for ferrets I bought at the pet store, it is banana flavored so I thought it would work? Nope, he ate some and it didn’t seem to be something he’d really want to eat (Instead of refilling his bowl, I put some treats instead so he had no choice but to eat them. I refilled the bowl with his normal food right after ofc) There were also peanut butter flavored treats.
Thanks for informing ferret owners. 20 years ago it wasn't known that sweets are bad for ferrets. I used to give my ferret raisins. It was his favorite treat ever. He would shake them before he ate them and would do anything for them. He would get super hyper after eating them but would suddenly crash. One day I realized that he had no energy anymore and took him in to the vet and found out that he had problems with his pancreas. He had surgery and as he was recovering, the vet gave him some vitamin suppliment to help him but that seemed to have a bad effect on him and he died. I was devistated! Never feed your ferret raisons or anything sweet. It's tempting because they love it so much but it can kill them.
Some ferret owners give raw egg yolk up to twice a week. If you go to the holistic ferret forum I'm sure they have more information about this. I have given it to Joey a couple of times and he did enjoy it :O)
My mom gets a whole chicken every month and makes soups, and cuts it up, she said she will save a big chunk for the ferrets so im excited, we pick up my two fur babies in a week!
First time reading the article, which is very good. May you feel Joey close to you every day. I know he's rooting for your (someday) next fuzzy. Don't be surprised if he/she seems super quick to catch on because Joey may decide to coach, too! I 💖 Joey!
FYI Joey uses "Cozy'n Fresh" manufactured by PlanetWise Products Inc. Can get it from "Tractor Supply Company". Unless you live close to one, call and verify its there.
Way to go Courtney! I feed my ferrets much of the same Joey gets! I feed Epigen 90 and the same treats as you except for the cooked chicken breast - I have tried every which way but they do eat their chicken soup made with the Wysong Au Jus! Thanks!
I’m glad you said that, about looking other Isles, I feed my ferret a high protein cat food, Blue buffalo does have a bag that I never find in stores, but I always order it from Amazon it’s a purple bag of iBelieve blue buffalo kitten food
That's still way more than suggested. For perspective, once every two months is 'frequent' for bathing ferrets. Rinsing ferrets without soap or shampoo to lather is another story altogether.
hi! im struggling with the vitamin alternative solution. the ferret vite has alot of stuff that is sugary like molasses, but what can i use for the vitamin supplements. what do you use for probiotics and alternative for ferretone as well? i haven't found much information for alternatives on line, i know its not good for them but the supplements are what i need alternative for other than the marshall stuff. i use olive oil and i do not feed raw, she dosnt care for meat either just her 40% protein ferret kibble.and treats.
I only give the boiled chicken as a treat. Just the cooked chicken breast isn't enough to fulfill the nutritional needs of a ferret. Those that choose to feed a complete raw diet to their ferrets have to give organs, bones, etc in order to give the ferret everything is needs. Joey gets Wysong Ferret Epigen 90 kibble, the various treats in this video, as well as frozen thawed mice (never live!) every other day.
People at the Holistic Ferret Forum/Facebook group can help you with that! Just google them, they help tons of people to get their ferrets to eat meat.
I love your videos. I'm going to try to get my girl Daisy to accept chicken as a treat. I tried raw eggs but she was not interested. However I'm going to try scrambled next time.
Thanx joey the trained ferret! I have been learning a lot from you!! I have a 3 and 1/2 month old ferret. Her name is Raquel!! I already got her not to nip because I practiced your training. Thanx it helped a lot. I'm now practicing on the tricks. Raquel only listens to me. She still nips a little at my family. Is that normal?
Ferrets shouldn't be bathed that often. They should be bathed no more than once every other week. The more you bathe them, the stinkier they get. The oils on their skin go into overproduction and cause more smell. When you bathe a ferret, it drys their skin out, even with the Aloe ferret shampoo. Mine got a bath 3 days ago. Before that, they hadn't had a bath in...2 months? It seems like they would get stinkier, but just keep the cage clean and wash the blankets more often, not the ferrets. :)
I use boiled turkey because it's so easy to pull apart into little stripes of meat! But the idea to boil meat came from you even before we got our ferrets! Btw, do you feed kibble or raw?
I agree. Once every two weeks is WAY more than needed, by far. But, if you have a cat, that pops in a box, a water rub down can only go so far. I hold off as long as I can. I have found my sprite snuffling through the cat box on SEVERAL occasions. At some point, enough is enough and the soap comes out. Just try to bathe them as little as possible.
Sorry that Torgo won't be getting anymore cashews, though it is for his health so I applaud you for making that change! Ferrets are great at liking things they shouldn't (a lot like people-ha) I would not feed Torgo bacon either unfortunately. Even low sodium is too much for them and since the meat is cured it may cause them harm. Any meat that has been preserved in an unnatural way isn't a good idea. Check out the Holistic Ferret Forum or the American Ferret Association website for more info.
So I just rescued a ferret (he was outside my apartment complex) and I was wondering what some good kibble would be. I know to stay away from the ones with filler, but I was wondering what would have the most nutrients he needs. And thanks for the treat ideas!
+Daisy DeSilva Here is my video on what I feed Joey. Be sure to check out the links in the description section of the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xRf1TDxO2l4.html
i never gave my ferret meat before i will do it tho im kinda young for cooking so i mate let my grandma do it and i need to tell her to not put in suger no salt or nothing in it like seasoning. and i will go to petco and find what u had up there . like u said. both of my girl ferrets eat every thing so all i have to do is give them meat so they can be healthy . by the way there names are lilly and sofie . u can go on one of my videos called me and my ferrets u can see lilly im holding her and shes black and brown.
Skyler Alpha i don't think small amounts of fish will hurt them... but I heard that it makes them smell bad... do a little more research and use at your own discretion I suppose.
Thanks for the tip over the PureBites brand, I think I've seen this in my local Home Bargain store but wasn't sure if I should buy it so now I know, thanks! Hmm.. you scramble the egg? I read they're not allowed the white as they are lactose intolerant.. They can have the yoke though.
Joey TheTrainedFerret Yeah, yolks are fine. I'm surprised your vet said scrambled egg is fine too as that requires beating and mixing with the white and quite often also people add milk. Both of these I assure you are not good for the ferret.
My ferret isn't interested in any treats I try to give her and she will only eat in her cage so I'm having trouble training... She's also deaf which doesn't help lol
Oh no! :( Torgo loves Cashews. He goes nuts (ha) for them. It's a very rare treat that I've been giving him after his biweekly bath. Guess I won't be giving him that anymore. He also loves bacon. I feel like low-sodium turkey bacon is best for him in the bacon department because it isn't so salty and doesn't have as much fat as pork bacon. Do you think that's okay?
How do you get a ferret that has been raised on kibble (and is past the age of food association) to start liking meat treats? I've tried and she will just turn her nose up at anything. All she will eat is her kibble.
@@meganvantienen2575 That was an ooold comment. I now am an experienced raw feeder. The trick is to simply introduce meat and eggs alog with their kibble in very small amounts. Very tiny amounts at first or they'll turn their nose up at all the food. Gradually add more of the meat and eggs while giving less of the kibble and eventually they will wean off the kibble.
@@LyleVertigo ohh okay yeah i dont want to feed him meat beqause they say it wil bite more he is biting at the moment he is still a baby and im stil doing research how to raise him
I am trying to feed my ferret raw chicken and bandit treats but she only likes the ferretvite and suggestions on how to get her to eat raw meat and treats?
An addition to the "Ferrets eat meat" there is one exception if i remember correctly u shouldnt feed pork to them as this can cause some serious health problems that some thing one should look for when feeding treats made for other carnivorus pets
my friend gave her ferrets vegetables i told her your not supposed to its not good for them but she said she no's more about ferrets because her mum grown up with them well obviously not because she doesnt even n what they are and arnt supposed to eat im 12 by the way :)
I have an extremely picky ferret who doesn't really like anything. I have tried to give him meat in the past but he is uninterested in it. How can I get him to start eating meat?
I've always thought you were so pretty! I can't tell what it is about you but you're so pretty! And I love oey and I hope my parents let me get a ferret. 😊
I love this video thank you. but I didn't see any video about the "Litter Box".. I have 3 and they use it and don't.. they will go right outside of it.. Help please :)
john parks I've heard of people giving venison, but not pork. It could be fine, but try to research pork before you give it. I'm sorry, I just don't know very much on that particular meat.
what is the ferret eating routine? like, should just leave his normal food out or like a dog, do they separate their meal times? speaking of routines, you should do ''JOEY'S MORNING ROUTINE'' or'' JOEY'S DAY ROUTINE'' or even ''JOEY'S NIGHT ROUTINE'' that would be fab!
+GEMS EARLEY (GEM's) Joey has food out all of the time. He typically eats in the morning, midmorning, lunchtime, around dinner and a couple times after that. Thanks for the vid ideas!
+Joey TheTrainedFerret I have also have tried cooked ground beef, raw ground beef, cooked ribs, cooked chicken, but he doesn't like any of it. any sugestions?
Stephanie Machado No! Don't feed your ferret dog food! Those dog treats she showed were litterally nothing but freeze dried chicken, dog food has a ton of stuff in it that would harm your ferret.
IceRiver1020 okay thank you! so any freeze dried meat type treats is okay? Regardless of what animal it's meant for? I just got a ferret and she's eating high end kibble but I want to give her a better diet. And so far I only have the bandit brand treats but I know those aren't that good for her so I'm exploring other options
Yes, but that shouldn't be the entire diet. If you want to feed raw, search for the holistic ferret forum on facebook or on the web. They should be able to help the best.
Could I give these “treats” to ferrets everyday as regular meals for them. I’m trying to find a good food for them that’s something other then going to have to defrost chicken and stuff like that. Like, pellet food or so.
love your informative videos i own a ferret call "yuno" is my babie. i would like to know what healthy food can i gave her. i usually give her the food that is sold in petco but it looks too dry is any other variety that i can give her.
do you know if are little bits of grease-dried bacon (non-greasey bacon) with little fat ok for ferrets? lately, i can't seem to get ahold of my vet, so I'm not sure...
I don't give Joey pork and I've heard that a lot of ferret owners don't either. I can't remember the reasoning behind it at this moment but I would say to stay away from it. Check with the vet though when you are able to get it touch with him/her.
My ferret HATES meat, he will specifically pluck it out of his bowl and leave it to dry in his cage. Unfortunately he loves apples and cheerios. Any suggestions as to how to change this?
It is made of chicken and chicken by products. In terms of chicken, I've tried both raw and cooked. He literally would not eat any meat or treats until I accidentally dropped a cheerio on the floor one day and he ate it, but that is the only thing he has been willing to try so far.
i have a question sense im planning on getting a ferret but i want to know more so i can take good care of it. Is it okay to give the ferret a piece of chicken from my own plate that my parents make for me too eat or no? 👀
I wont recomend chicken since farms are feeding chicken with a drug called clenbuterol for grow perfomance. Just a heads up! Love your channel !!! Cheers
