To be honest most of the questions can be guessed based on context or just a word being different than the other words but this is still a great way to learn some vocabulary and have some fun
@wladfiggs
@wladfiggs Год назад
Yeah, but sometime that's what I get from people who just recently became advanced speakers. They get the word meaning, but in context it could be sarcastic or an exaggeration, and they go like: but, doesn't this word mean this and that? There are two points to explore here, some so called "unique words" come from Latin or Greek, and although not usual, a non native speaker can guess it better than a native with a weaker vocab. Then, one can say they got it from the context, but it was actually because it's the same word used in French, Spanish or German. Secondly, the context can be deceiving. But yeah, this is a great way to learn.

It’s more logic that being a test. You can randomly guess the answer by hearing the movie lines and watching the act so it would normally refer to a word that you’ll logically choose
@xMrFlyx
@xMrFlyx Год назад
1. Treachery - The word “treachery” refers to the behavior of deceiving, tricking or betraying someone who trusts you. Ex: Game of Thrones is full of plots involving treachery and revenge. 2. Bloodlust - The word “bloodlust” refers to the desire or enjoyment of violence. Ex: Many of Stephen King’s stories are about people fight against a villain or monster’s bloodlust. 3. Urge - When you get an “urge” to do something, you have a strong need or desire to do it. Ex: Sometimes I get an urge to eat piece of chocolate after lunch. 4. Vicious - If something or someone is “vicious”, it is cruel and violent. Ex: The police said this was one of the most vicious attacks they’d ever seen. 5. Meek - A “meek” person doesn’t like to engage in conflict or fight, and is usually quiet and gentle. Something “meek” also lacks strength, power or conviction. Ex: He gave a meek speech that was hardly inspirational. 6. Savage - If something is “savage”, it is aggressive, brutal or cruel. Ex: Epic movies usually depict a time when people were savage and crude. 7. Complacency - “Complacency” is a feeling of calm satisfaction with your own situation that prevents you from trying harder. (Keep in mind that this word is usually used in a disapproving way to refer to people who like to stay where they are and don’t want to grow, change or evolve). Ex: What annoys me about him is his complacency. 8. Deterrent - A “deterrent” is something that deters people. To deter means to prevent something from happening or to stop someone from doing something, usually something bad. Ex: High prices are deterring many young couples from buying houses. 9. Terrific - The word “terrific” seems to mean the same as terrible or terrifying, but actually the meaning is positive here. So, remember, something terrific is something very good, incredible or fantastic. Ex: John was invited to go on a business trip on behalf of the company. That’s terrific! 10. Teensy - If you call something “teensy”, you mean that thing is really small. Ex: I didn’t like the apartment because it was full of teensy rooms. 11. Articulate - If someone is “articulate”, this person is able to express thoughts and feelings easily and clearly. In other words, this person is a great communicator. Ex: She’s an intelligent and highly articulate young woman. 12. Non-patronizing - If someone is “patronizing”, he or she believes they are superior or better than other people. They treat others like they’re stupid or not important. The word “non-patronizing” means the opposite of that. Ex: I can’t stand that patronizing tone of hers. 13. Cower - When you “cower”, you lower your head or body in fear, usually moving backwards. Ex: The dog cowered in the corner, realizing she’d done something wrong. 14. Sly - A “sly’ person deceives people in a clever way in order to get what they want. Ex: He’s a sly individual. I wouldn’t trust him with my money. 15. Reckless - If you act “recklessly”, you do something dangerous, not worrying about the potential risks or result. Ex: His reckless behavior is what caused him to be suspended from school. 16. Insipid - If you say that certain foods are “insipid”, you mean they are blend. In other words, they lack taste. When talking about other things, insipid means something that lacks interest, energy or character. Ex: One of the reasons why I don’t watch cable TV is because there are so many insipid TV shows being shown. 17. Grandeur - “Grandeur” is the state or quality of being grand, large or special. Ex: When I vised Rome, I could see the grandeur that was the Colosseum. 18. Resign - When you “resign” from your job, you leave voluntarily. In other words, you quit. Ex: He resigned from the company in order to take a more challenging job. 19. Witnesses - A “witness” sees an event take place, typically a crime or accident. Detectives usually talk to witnesses when trying to solve a case. Ex: According to witnesses, the robbery was carried out by two young boys. 20. Lead - In the context of police work when a detective has a “lead” to follow it means that the detective has discovered an important piece of information that could help solve the case. In other words, discover who committed a crime. Ex: A lead from an informer enabled the police to make several arrests. 21. Trustworthy - If you are “trustworthy”, you are able to be trusted. In other words, people can count on you. Ex: In this job, we need someone who is entirely honest and trustworthy.

Quick note from a native speaker (Southern U.S.A.): at 0:31, you say "... if you don't get all the questions correctly ..." which sounds weird. I am not sure it is grammatically incorrect, but it doesn't sound natural to me. 14:17 I just thought of the symbol of "gold & purple" which means luxury, top class, power and whatever. And she is a police officer and... yape, sounds rational doesn't it? lol But I know the back meaning now haha, a culture lesson!

The result show me I am C2 but I think my speaking is B1(some topics I can fully covey thoughts but there's a lot of topics I feel like I lack appropriate words to describe)...

вы разбираете очень легкие слова .В контексте остаются намного более сложные и важные для понимания Например слово sly еще в начальной школе известно .в том числе в сочетании с лисой

This vid was --Terrific--. You know, I've been living in Canada for a while now, and although I've got all the words correctly, I still feel like my grammar is stuck. I get the message across, but my writing scores on those AI systems available online are not up to what I expected. I did well in English in college here (it was not a language major), and I dare say I was one of the best in my class, but still... I gotta find a way to improve.
