When the environmental conditions are good you will see more lichen and moss as they are very sensitive to pollution etc but when the conditions are bad you will see less lichen and moss. That’s how they act as a bio indicator. I hope that’s clear?
@@jamesroutledge7434 what does sensitive to pollution mean? In my biology book it’s written that lichens are more tolerant of sulphur dioxide than others so what are lichens and how do they indicate the level of sulphur dioxide in air?
Essentially if there are more pollutants in the air something like a lichen will die first, as they are not very tolerant to the toxins compared to other plants.
