If I was born in ancient Sparta I might be able to servive if I was somehow transported to ancient Sparta as I I'm now I'd die within a week. 😲😲😱☠️☠️☠️
I believe if Spartans knew the art of not only empowering the physical aspect of a man but the mental aspect not in terms of torment but in terms of appreciation, they could have endured more training due to their conscious wanting to do it for a possitive reason instead of being forced to do it, because they still loved their families so they clearly had emotions, that's the conscious you have to empower to become out of body like a plant for example and work for a purpose.
@@adrianmagria9868 That was the kids. That means they likely weren't very tall, but once they were adults they would have been on the top rungs of their society, and thus would have access to the best food sources and proteins of their culture. I would expect a lot of them to be 5'8" but jacked.
@Ali Ay yeah theyd be so disappointed that they would go back to their barracks and start having rough sex with each other like they did aggressively as well as pedophilia
@@alexios3180 I believe Yavus was referring to the power of modern technology. For example, with one AR-15 and plenty of ammo, you technically could wipe out a whole Spartan village.
So, strangely enough, Sparta was one of the few societies in the history of the Western world where you actually hit the jackpot if you were a girl and not a boy. You got a husband who looked like a superhero and you actually had several freedoms that no other women were allowed in centuries.
@@antonisnikolaros8185 I love how everyone is saying Spartans were a hellenic and savage society when they were one of the few that treated their women better than any other society did for centuries. Let's all just ignore that fact because the men were treated like the cattle for once, welcome to how life was for women in every other civilization.
This is exaggerated. Babies were put to death for major defects, not minor ones. Having a child was dangerous and expensive, so you didn't throw it away unless it would become a burden to the state. If you had down syndrome, spina bifida, or were black or something, then they'd throw you away. Otherwise it was all good.
@@BoopSnoot people were still ignorant and Savage as fuck back then. My great grandma was born in a dirt floor for God sake as a Danish immigrant first born and lived next to the neZ perce
There were more than two Greek city states. As each city state acted as an independent country. A person's life in ancient Macedon, Epirus, Thessaly, Crete, Ephesus, Syracuse ect. Would have been very different than that of someone in Sparta and Athens.
Something I've always wondered: how did Sparta become so brutally obsessed with creating the best warriors that distinguished them from other city states? Was there a defining event that made them like this?
they were already pretty good warriors but when they expanded they wanted to keep hold of the lands they took so instead of fighting over who should have this and that they united every man like a brother who he would fight to the death for and they decided to become one fighting unit one fighting country one fighting brotherhood all connected so nobody could ever take from them
Actually, yes. The Spartans were descendants from invaders from Crete. They saw themselves as occupiers of a foreign land rather than its inhabitants. Read Herodotus's account in his book.
The exact reason that made Sparta a military state was the Helot uprise. Which was there slave class. The helots outnumbered the Spartans around 3 to 1 so every Spartan needed to be a possible combatant
Fresh milk and tsoureki bread in the morning pork steak (huge) and fries with salt and oregano along with choriatiki (Greek salad with feta cheese on top ) in the midday) Greek yoghurt with honey and walnuts (BIG portion) in the afternoon and fruit salad with apples pears tangerine sprinkled with sun seed and orange juice for dinner. You will get at least 3 kilos in a week with moderate work out too.
Track your calories, you could be eating frequently but not caloric dense foods. Find what your tdee is and track your cals for a week. Go 500 cals over your tdee. You'll gain weight.
A childhood that consisted of emotional neglect, body shaming, and demeaning attitudes towards fearful reactions? Damn, I didn't realize I had so much in common with the Spartans.
It's interesting that only soldiers who died in battle and women who died in childbirth could legally get a funeral in Sparta, since they both died for their country. Definitely a good way to keep the citizens focused on the Spartan way of life.
They probably threw many prodigy children because of their physic and illness..... who knows those children could led them to invent some extraordinary things which can be helpful for those warriors...
Sparta was not the place for them culturally. Yes, it was wasted potential, but in diversifying their culture the Spartans would have created factions in time and a divided state was a state ready to fall. Sparta's strength was in their military unity and obedience
They have Retold History to hide real shit. What they wont tell u is They were based off a Gay principal they would Have sex with eachother nights of the battle. Look this shit up dont just believe me.. Roman/(The greek word Romance) the greeks believe there was no greater love than that between 2 men. Yall gotta do ur own research no just believe this bs they just tell u. Just like with black ppl... History starts as them slaves.. But they never tell u the life before slavery black ppl ruled Egypt it was a world know Empire. They have started history in reverse to their likeing. 💯
@@InfiniteMind9 im studying ancient greek and i can say this is true to an extent, they saw women as a reproductory object and saw men as just pleasure there was no seperation between gay men and straight men they all were the same
From what I understood from the video itt wasnt that the were litteraly steaving the Boys. They just didnt give them enough food to feel full. They gave just enough to do what they have to do în a day. Plus the body gests used to it
They were given just enough so they could get what they needed to done. The ridiculous work out regiment probably undid anything that not eating enough did to their body. Plus I also think it would be helpful if they didn’t need as much food is their cities were to be sieges or if they were on the warpath
You should do a video about Ancient Greek "Maenads". They were these absolutely crazy women who killed humans and animals in weird rituals. No one has done a proper video about them and it would be pretty interesting :D
Unlike many other ancient societies, life in Sparta as a woman seems to be really cool. I feel very sorry for the boys though. I wonder how the mothers felt when their sons were abandoned to die! I don't even wanna think how the babies felt! And can you imagined not being loved as a child? I almost want to cry!
well it feels harsh to us but its their culture. I mean to them it be as normal as your everday life is to you. Ex.Like if my immediate family tradition is to sleep on camp cots then i sleep on camp cots its just the way it is.. i dont know any different even if my cousins sleep on normal beds. just different ways for different families.
Bruh a spartan could beat every single one of our asses on a 1v1 hand to hand like for real there isnt a way there exists someone whos trained like these guys
You can tell how prideful their uncompromising culture was, when theres an ancient spartan grave of a woman with a carved text. And that carved text portrays how she restored the honor of her family by murdering her own son who was a deserter.
Weird history should try Africa empires that dominated world trade and had the richest man in history? Or go into Japan or Middle East. Maybe do the crusades from Europe and Middle East.
@@cocokosh9909 Look up Mali, Ghana, empire. During that time Africa was dominating the world trade with their resources which gave them more power and money during that time.
@@mr.kingofphenomenal4629 Yea no, Africa has NEVER dominated world trade ever, except for maybe the exporting and selling of their own people as slaves. And where the hell did you get the richest man in history from lol? King Solomon, and pretty much every Arabian Royal has had more wealth than the richest African leader. I think you have been taught some bullshit by people with an agenda.
@@MideanStone Just look it up. I learned this stuff in high school. Yes Africa did dominated the world trade. Every country wanted their resources which is why European colonized Africa because Africa resources were so rich and full of everything they needed.
Lucas Santos Did you not watch the video. The women in Spartan society weren’t delicate, they practiced wrestling, javelin throwing, gymnastics, and also constantly exercised.
I see how they would be good fighters but i question their ability to feel love and on a battle field thinking of your wife and children probably make you fight harder than being pissed off plus if you have freedom as a child i think you might be better at strategic endeavors.
@@TheMontoya09 wow this is really cool! I don't know if some of my ancestors were Conquistadores, I wish, but there is some probability since my lastname can be found in some american countries. the name also isin't very common and was of lesser nobility, like a landed knight.
Frankie Lima child abuse done right turns them into the toughest MFers on the planet. Although that that point it’s probably not so much abuse as it is strict and harsh parenting. Especially when the entire community explained to you why they were flogging you daily.
The other classes of the society made up a huge portion of the spartan army, even helots. One of the reasons Sparta never went far with their armies as the helots would just leave or rebel. Helots were also mainly from Messenia a reason to the west of Laconia which was an entire greek population of their own.
Are kidding this is the fucking Jedi order training children since birth to feel nothing so they can be Jedi masters like lmao same concept the Jedi were crazy
Seems to me that the Spartans were highly overrated, mostly due to the battle of Thermopylae. Their rigidly structured society based on oppression and violence was eventually rendered obsolete, even in the ancient world.
They were brutal, dumbfuck, abusive slaver trash. I don’t care when they existed. Right and wrong also existed then. They aren’t any sort of hero to me. They are novelties of a horrible era.
I’m reading and hearing many different things about Spartan societal structure. They were a fierce bunch indeed. Honestly they’re shrouded in mystery. In the rise of classical Greece stories were mostly oral. I do know that not all historians agree that they were entirely as harsh as said. They could’ve been. Perikles was known to be the one I guess, to create historical lit. They did have an honor code which was cool. They upheld women in the highest honor as life givers. Even a conformist war breeding society could’ve been easily corrupted from time to time. I would’ve chosen my Spartan cousins nonetheless.🤘🏼
Yea.. risk getting raped by older pedophile soldiers when your 7 or 10yo, then be forbid to live with a women until and if you survive till 30yo. Cool life... for you.
@@estradamurcielgo175 No I meant in Sparta. Both places had it, but it was more common in Sparta. Spartan soldiers had to live in their barracks until 30 and we're encouraged sleep with other men to improve the bonds of the soldiers. Young Spartan soldiers were even taken in by older Spartan men and most of the time they were together. I'm not homosexual haha. I just know the history. I doubt you know much about ancient Greece, since what I was saying is well known.
Fun fact: a lot of spartan men where really really gay, however part of their duty to Sparta was to produce an heir. So there was public shamings for men who refused to wed past a certain point and even after the nuptials, it wasnt uncommon to have the new wife dressed as a boy to aid in the baby making process
Spartans killing babies when the baby could have grown up into the wise adult that would've made a new method to keep Sparta alive: Spartans when Sparta falls: "How could this happen?"
The Spartan warrior obsession was a result of their fear of a slave revolt. They kept the native Helots as slaves and considered themselves foreign occupiers. Spartans kept the Helots in a constant state of terror to prevent any possibility of rebellion, declaring war on them annually to cull the stronger Helots. Sparta was kind of messed up.
I read a story about a Spartan child who snuck a fox to eat and he got caught because while hiding it in his clothes the fox woke up since it wasnt properly killed and when it awoke it began biting and eating his stomach. The child who was use to the pain did not move or scream and instead held his silent position until he fell over and eventually died from his injures. Not sure if its true but if it was then its nuts that they would rather be attacked by a wild animal than be caught
Sir, I would be really really greatful if you can make a video on life of the golden age empires of India. There is no single authentic video available on the internet about it. Please please. 🙏🙏🙏
Hope you guys can also make a documentary about the Batavi and the Batavian Revolt against the Romans wich was directly caused by the Year of the Four Emperors.
So basically, compared to Rome the Spartans were an insular society who viewed themselves as better than anyone else? Meanwhile the guys who actually, y'know, realised you could just train any random joe to be a good soldier with a stake in a massive empire basically ruled the world. As much as I dislike seeing people hero-worship Roman ideals, Spartan hero worship is ten-times worse...
You left out the part where these boys once they were partnered up with their mentors were basically made to be their lovers as well. Pediastry was normal back in Sparta. As well as the custom that on the wedding night of a man and woman, they would shave the womans head and dress them as a boy. Meanwhile, the woman were strongly believed to also sleep with each other during the festivals (which mostly women attended btw.) Apart from that another interesting fact is that Spartan woman were renowed for their beauty in the whole of greece and especially for a dance in which they kicked up their feet to hit their butts in the rythm of a drumbeat, exposing a lot of their legs in the process, which was deemed pretty extraordinary back then. Just some additions 😬
