2 uploads in 2 days woooo, I told you guys. No more fun and games 😤. Nonstop WrestleMania content this entire month ! So don’t worry I’ll cover your favourite Mania I got you! Also I didn’t make this because of Hogan, trust me I’m far from a Hogan fan. However I’m a huge Rock fan. He loves this match, I love this match. It was just special. So I had to make this video!
Might as well do Rock vs Cena next. That's kinda like a role reversal as now Rock was the older legend facing the current top guy. Plus the buildup to that was epic with the back and forth promos. That was the last time ti me that a wrestlemania main event felt truly like a big deal. (Ps: dont worry about doing the rematch tho. Let's just pretend that never happened lol)
@@user-au2296 how can HHH and Jericho top the classic that was Rock v Hogan? HHH and Randy Orton main evented WrestleMania 25 which was supposed to be HBK vs Undertaker as the main event
Alec agreed! I’m all for the title match being the main event but an exception should’ve been made here! I don’t care what Triple H says! I’m no fan of hogan the person but he and the rock drew a lot of that house at wrestlemania 18 and should’ve went on last.
Michael Bandada i mean Shawn and taker did main event the following mania and it was still a very good match but I do agree with hulk vs rock main eventing
KCW Studios super underrated. JR killed it this match. Most people bring up his AUSTIN AUSTIN or his HIAC calls but my favourite JR performance is this one lol
Supernamek2121 They never wrestled because Austin said that hogan wasn’t going to put him over and if they did wrestled, they wasn’t going to be main event(just like rock v hogan). Remember This is 2002 or 2003(same time as rock v hogan). This is when Austin still had neck injuries.
Possibly one of the most emotional matches in WrestleMania history... Hulk Hogan vs The Rock, WM18, the return of Hulkamania... it was live at first sight, and I was 4 years old too!
I believe there is a reason why Cody said this is the best match ever. I always said too that doing fancy moves in wrestling means nothing if the crowd isn't invested. In pro wrestling the crowd plays such an important factor. That's why this match is so iconic. Like you said Wrestlingifs, the match is simple but when you combine great storytelling and psychology and add to that an insane crowd that is invested in both characters, that's what makes a great match. All the great matches over the years the crowds are always mad invested
Hogan vs Rock proves that complex moves are not required to have an amazing match. The atmosphere was unreal, and IMO should've been the main event. Really sad that we'll never get anything epic like this ever again.
@@DonDon-my4vv Hogan vs Warrior Rock vs Austin Cena vs Rock I don't know who can come close today. Maybe LA Knight, but he needs a dance partner on the same level as him.
@@suiken3149A match like this probably wont happen for decades if ever again. Hogan, the mega-star who helped create wrestlemania and revolutionise wrestling globally VS The Rock, one if not the most beloved charismatic superstars in history.
At WrestleMania X8, the fans are cheering Hollywood Hogan (it was at the Toronto Skydome and Canada is known as Bizarro Town where fans cheer the heels and boo the babyfaces i.e Edge at Summerslam 04) and Rocky decided to go off script and play the heel. Summerslam 02, on the other hand, witnessed The Rock getting booed by fans because they know that he’s gonna do movies in Hollywood and never wrestle anymore
I'll tell you why cause most of us saw him selling out to Hollywood that he was putting wrestling second.. That's why he turned into the heel Rock he became in 2003 when he returned for few months. Mid 2002 was the final nails in the coffin to the Attitude era with Austin and Rock leaving , the first brand split, the disappointing change from. WWF to WWE and these new guys named Brock and Cena. All hitting a once.
It's hard to argue with Cody when he thinks that Hogan vs. Rock is the greatest match of all time. When you think about what pro wrestling is, this match is the very definition of pro wrestling. 2 wrestling titans going face to face, the moments, the crowd interactions, flipping the script of face and heel on the fly, and just the atmosphere. This is what you show to nonwrestling fans and tell them that this is what pro wrestling is all about.
Hogan vs Austin will always be a dream match, they only had a handful of interactions, but the Rock/Hogan dynamic was just too good, on one side you had somebody who made it clear the business can still make legends, and on the other side you have someone who made the industry, Icon v Icon
14:19 I always thought WWE so far has missed a chance on putting over Lesnar's F5 in a similar fashion nowadays. Cole should have said "the move that ended the legendary undefeated streak of The Undertaker"
If Austin came out instead to set up Hogan v Austin, would if the crowd have turned on him at mania like they did Rock? It was still great what we got and what lead to(in my opinion) The Rock's best heel turn.
No. Austin was just too over for fans to boo him the crowd reaction at x-8 was because of 80s fans and 90s fans mixed together I think everyone loved Austin more. for some reason hogan like in the past with flair stopped that match from happening
As much as I would've loved to see Austin Vs Hogan, this was the right call, the crowd peaked during this match, I don't think anything has rivalled it since
Bro, you're such a good story teller!! You truly make me feel hype, holy crap. You REALLY understand soul, and emotion! Most people just talk about what simply happened, but you, when you speak, you're bringing the true feelings that came along with them. Thank you for that!
Still have a Rock DVD and this is one of the matches featured. Shoutout to Pav for featuring this fucking classic of a match bro Edit: thanks for the heart bro like frfr I fucking love your shit
I rarely watch wrestling anymore, but I still love it. There are certain matches that I've went back and watched over and over. But, this match wasn't one of them. I wasn't into wrestling in 2002 so I had no idea why this match was so great in so many peoples minds. This video explained everything perfectly and was so well made. Every time I watch one of these kinds of videos from you, they're always so amazing and they get my to go back and rewatch a lot of old matches that are so much more than I remember. Thanks for the awesome vids man, keep it up.
Good vid but one detail, Rock vs Hogan was always the original plan for WM18. Confirmed by Rock, Austin, Hall, Nash, Prichard and pretty much everyone involved. Rock and Vince talked about bringing Hogan in for a dream match since early 2001, the plan was in place months before the nWo debuted as Rock was basically booking his own programs since his July 2001 return knowing that his time as a full timer is coming to an end. There was never any plan of Austin vs. Hogan in 2002. Austin did turn down a match with Hogan but the misunderstanding comes from the fact that it was in 2005-2006, not 2002. Hogan and Austin traded shots at the Hall of Fame ceremony in 2005 and 2006 with Hogan even challenging Austin for a match on WWE RAW's return show to the USA Network in October 2005. The big talk was a WM22 match but that never materialized.
Bro I was there live. My dad and me. Freaking out. A memory I treasure to this day. And I’ve never seen or heard a crowd like that before. Truly the crowd and energy can’t be put into words!
The historical part of why Toronto loves Hogan makes this video for me. Hogan beating Mr. Wonderful in pre-BMO Field at the Big Event was a monumental wrestling moment.
*WReEStleMainia 8X* Also fun fact, the sign of Hogan's face you see at 9:45 was also in the crowd at WM6. I think it was an ad billboard that you see on the sides of buses.
Yo, Pav! Your content is definitely one of the best on the internet. I can definitely see your hardwork and effort in each video. I love how you dig deep into the topic your talking about. Just legendary. Great job, man. Keep it going.
This was the first Wrestlemania I ever purchased on PPV. I saw the poster on the sides of buses and billboards "ICON vs ICON". This definitely lived up to the hype. The Rock & Hulk Hogan was what John Cena and The Rock wanted to be. Not to say that was disappointing but this was driven with a beautiful story line and a beyond epic finish! One of the main reasons I fell in love with this company. Oh how I miss these type of lead ups....thank you for this video bro !
What made it special is that it truly felt like a clash of different generations colliding. Legend vs Legend, WWE tried replicating it with The Rock vs Cena but it Cena was never as big or beloved as The Rock was at his prime. You also had The Rock and Stone Cold tagging together against the nWo on Raw before this WrestleMania. Two of the coolest Anti Heroes of wrestling against the coolest Heel stable of the 90s going at it. Hogan vs The Rock should have been the last match of this event but instead you had the Diva match and HHH vs Y2J match afterwards which couldn't come close to the emotional rollercoaster Hogan vs The Rock was, and the crowd was so drained emotionally they could care less that HHH beat Jericho.
The crowd was so emotionally vested in both of these wrestlers. Hogan looked like he could still physically dominate, and the crowd loves a childhood hero coming back into their lives. Great story telling sold this match, and the crowd responded with gusto!
This is my all time favorite wrestlemania you and I are one in the same with this i must of watched my DVD version at least a thousand times .This match made me the wrestling fan today .
Rock vs HH, Randy Savage vs Ricky Steamboat, Austin vs Bret Hart, and HBK vs Undertaker 1 should have been the main event at their respective wrestlemanias imo, great video as always Wrestlingifs.
I just found your RU-vid channel this is so cool and awesome and the best ever and this this is so good and I cannot wait for more all new videos from you thank you very much
March 17th 2002 i was still in high skool..i watch this on pay per view...after that sunday was my birthday...so seeing the Rock defeat hogan was the best birthday present
And to think this was the beginning of the rocks legendary heal turn. It was the spark for great story's lines hogan's sugar Ray like return as champ. The rock vs angle vs undertaker, rock vs lesnar rock heal turn the rock concert, the rock vs Austin etc
I am happy that it was Rock vs Hogan instead of Austin vs Hogan, the way Rock controlled, handled and adapted the boos & match and the teamwork between both icons made this match legendary.
Wrestlemania 18 was the last Attitude era Wrestlemania.. The Ruthless Aggression truly began soon after. The story of the Attitude era needs to be told correctly WWE rewrote history when they officially said it ended at WM17. Most of us who actually witnessed the Attitude era disagree and felt it died a year later as Stone Cold, The Rock and the nWo were all on the way out with Brock, Cena and them the next era. Jeff Hardy, RVD, Jericho, Angle, Edge, Eddie, Benoit were already legends and established stars known by everyone in the Attitude era.
You know this is Wrestling to me. It’s what these guys create Beyond in ring action, you Had feeling like you were watching a movie Like something epic is taking place Like you are seeing something you shouldn’t be seeing. This match as far as Pure in ring action is show stealer and That’s the beauty of it. The crowd, Big fight feel, epicness in the air is what makes it one of the best ever. Always in my top 10🔥
Man I watched this wrestlemania so much. I rented it from my local blockbuster damn near a hundred times. I even brought it from that blockbuster. Good times
Lol when he said i watched it on a vhs now i wonder how many people watching this knows what that is we are blessed with auto rewind back in the day kids we had go rewind ourself and it took time
You might not do this mania match, but if u can can u do “what made roman reigns vs Brock lesnar special” (wrestlemania 31) since Rollins was the first person to cash in at mania and the match itself wasn’t that bad unlike the mania 34 match 💀
I feel like that this match was a passing the torch between hulk Hogan was a legend & having the the rock beat him at wrestlemania 18 made the rock the guy he became in the WWE
The crowd loved Hogan! They didn't have anything for Hall & Nash! I'd like to know what Hall and Nash were thinking when they were headed to the ring to attack Hogan. They didn't see this crowd reaction coming by all accounts! Classic match!
