My favourite part of the 65 was definitely the three round pill style tail lights. The 65 Impala also sold over 1 million of these which was the first vehicle ever to do so! 65 is my favourite year for the Impala.

I know this is from a year ago, but it just hit my recommendations. So… wow! My very first car that I purchased in 1970 at age 16 was a burgundy ‘65 Impala Super Sport essentially identical to yours only with the white interior. It also was powered by the 283 with the PowerGlide auto. In reality, the SS version in those days was a very nice trim package that you still had to option out to add performance over a standard Impala. While the exterior of mine was pretty much rust free, I discovered after I bought it ($450) a rust hole in the center of the trunk that had been cleverly concealed by an aftermarket carpet. 😂 But I did what everyone my age who was interested in muscle cars did ack then. I raised the rear end with air shocks, added glass pack muffler and spent a small fortune on Cragar S/S mags. Thanks for sharing your restoration! 👍👍👍 ~John in Ohio
My dad had the 65 Impala Sport. Beautiful midnight blue, white leather interior. Just the right time when I got my driver's license. Man, did I enjoy driving that around. You're right about it being the best Impala. GM never produced anything close to it after. Your video brought back some nice memories. Edit: This was back in the days when cars had class and character, and not to mention great designs where one could tell them apart from each other. Today's cars look like they came off the same bloody assembly line where in many cases you have to look at the badge to tell them apart. Auto design today is the s__ts.
I have a 65 SS I inherited from my dad. Used to like the mid sized cars like Chevelle and GTO but fell in love with this big boss over the years! He also left us a 67 Catalina convertible that we love but have no room for! The lines on both the 65 and 67 are sweet and those round 65 tail lights the bomb! Thank you dad for dragging these cars back from out West and building them your way. You were a mechanical genius and you are missed!
I think that the 1965 Impala had the best look out of all of the other Impala's. The main two things are the roof line and the round tail lights in trunk. Also, the shape of the fender and quarter openings.
My dad owned a 1965 Impala SS 396 Turbo 400 , complete with 8 track and cb. Dark blue with light blur interior. I was around 10 years old and my favorite thing was the vacuum gauge , that thing was amazing to me.
I remember when I first saw a '65 Impala, it was in October of '64. I loved the design. I liked the front bumper and grill. I like the tail lights popping up on the trunk.

This is a tough call for me. I loved all the impalas from 1961 through 1965. I owned a 63 and a 64. In the end, though, my buddies red 65 with the 327 and a Muncie 4 speed wins out.
BEAUTIFUL car and restoration! I learned to drive on 'my daddy's' brand new 1961 Chevy Impala, 2 dr hardtop (called "bubbletop" now-days??!) . I loved that car with it's 283, 4bbl carb (230hp it claimed). A Powerglide would let your competion, with a 4 speed, be half way down the block before you could get across the street, so therefore, AS A KID, I hated the Powerglide! (everyone stop-light dragged back then !). Now at 77 yrs old, I appreciate the smoothness and certainly congratulate you for being a 'Purist' on your restoration. I certainly understand the 'upgrades' to older cars, but there REALLY IS more to life than drag racing :) Like you, I love ALL of the old 50's and 60's Impalas (I remember drooling over the '58, as a Jr High kid, when it first came out) !! Thank you for keeping it 'real'. :)
The 65 Impala is a true gentlemen`s car and yours looks really nice, makes me wish I still had mine, 1965 SS convertible L35 396, white on red, everything was original when i got it except the paint, me and my brother restored the car together, he`s gone now and so is the car, really miss both......
I wish you still had it too. My dad helped me work on mine a little too before he died. He had dementia, and had lot a lot of his mechanical skills by the time I got it, but he still tried to help me as much as he was able.
Beautiful car. My favorite year was the 1967. Especially the Caprice with the formal roofline. Stunningly Beautiful car. The thing about the 67 full sized Chevy was the rear styling was very well executed. The front end was clean and elegant. The instrument cluster featured round guages with to me convey a youthfull look. Sweep speedometer always reminded me of a grandmas car. All in all Chevrolet was at the top of their game throughout the whole 60's decade.
My first car looked exactly like the one above (including the color). It was quite a hot rod. Sadly my spouse wanted to sell it in the 70's. Years later I got a phone call because of an old gasoline receipt in the glove compartment, and the person calling had the car and wanted to restore it and wanted to know all about it, color and interior and so on. I was so happy that the car was able to be restored. The only down side for me was that living in the Colorado Rockies, it was trickier to handle on ice and snow due to the rear wheel drive and sensitive brakes and steering. It was a 327.
Went with my Dad when he ordered a maroon 65 Impala. Talked him into ordering it with the 300 hp 327. Cut the resonators off and ran pipes like yours. Didn't change sound much. Drove it to high school in 65 and 66 after dropping Mom at work. Lot of great memories in that car. Thanks for the video of a beautiful car.
I fell in love with the 1963 Impala. Mr. cool teenager who lived across the street with his parents had a '63 factory white over champagne Impala with a set of Astro style mags, which was stunning. I would love to find one that's in decent shape.

1966 is my favorite it would be nice to have one again however vehicles that are existing In California cost in excess of $30.000 bucks thats for original condition. So anyway that for showing yours it looks fantastic.
Great car and history as well. I learned to drive in this type of model, so my father ran a Parking Lot at my city, Bogota, Colombia, and of course, these Chevys were the coolest stuff around here, back in the 60`and even late 70`s. Checking this cars again, brings to me a lot of memories, I love this Impala, because the 6 rounded tail lights, very remarkable feature. Can't argue with you much, it is beautiful! I really like the flowing fastback line of the 67 and 68 as well! Also the availability of the SS427 package would be enough to tip the scales toward a 68, but I do love the 65. My cousin had a maroon 65 like yours with a 300 hp. 327 and that car pulled like a big block. Truly great cars. I have a 72 Custom Coupe with a sb 400 and its not a bad looking car either with 8" Corvette rallies.

It's the first year for curved windows and the coke bottle curves. They are so glamorous. Your 65 SS is stunning. The black rear end trim imitates a racing stripe. The big blocks were rough on front tires and suspension parts. I really love them with Craiger SS wheels
Sitting in my '65 watching this. Non ss, 327 w/ powerglide. Original California car. All white. It was my dads. My dad passed away in 2003. I was 11 at the time. The car was owned throughout my.brothers. now i have it in Texas. Plan on making memories with my son like my dad did with me when i was a boy. Thanks for sharing. I love that color.
10 different engine options all available in SS trim. My Dad had a 65 283 auto SS purple with black interior. it was the first car I ever turned a steering wheel on, sat on his lap as a kid holding the wheel as he drove through the neighborhood streets. Try that now with my son and I'll have the neighbors calling child services. 65 and 58 are my favorite year's Glad to know you drive it.
My parents bought a 1965 Caprice, used in 1966, same maroon color, 327-300 horse. Great car, people asked us what we had under the hood. Mom had a lead foot!

This brings back great memories. My dad had a 1965 Impala that was same color and interior. He actually traded a lady for his 1967 Cougar XR7 GT. (BTW he kicks himself for getting rid of the Cougar). The Cougar wasn't really a family car and had the limited slip posi rear end which made it impossible to drive in the rare snows we got in Western Washington. By the time I was old enough to remember the car, dad had sold it to a friend but I sure wish he kept that car as well. Looked exactly like yours just don't know if it was a Super Sport. Last I ever saw it I was 4 years old.

Great to see this example, the ‘65 was a favorite of mine (I was 10 at the time and had a plastic model). I tried to get my dad and uncle (who had a 63 Impala that I also liked) into getting one but no luck. This car looks right from every angle, like a great sculpture.
IMHO, GM ruled the world of automobile styling in the mid-sixties. They sure had a lot of winners during that time, but it didn't get much better than this! Overall sales told the story.
Of all the cars that I have owned, the one that I wish that I still had is my 1965 Impala Super Sport. It's the one that I truly miss. I miss it more than my 1969 Pontiac GTO convertible, my 1969 Ford XL convertible, and my 1979 Mercury Cougar XR-7 or 1960 Chevrolet Bel-air.
65 Impala was my first car when in High-school bought in 67 was a dark emerald green with a green brocade cloth interior...loved that car! To this day it is my favorite Impala!

The lines on the '65, headlight to trunk coupled with the smooth transitioning of the trunk taillights make the 1965 Chevy a car to admire. A definitive change from the '64, a neighbor's car and the 1965 was something to dream about because the '62 wagon we had was practical but no comparison. There were five kids and two adults in that '62 wagon as I was 16 in 1965, the oldest with two brothers and two sisters. Another neighbor who owned a '65 was thought to be rich but really was an older employed teen driving a beautiful car. Your car is clean, and it is apparent you take care of the car, thanks for sharing.
I agree the 65 is my favorite as well. You said it best the side profile is what puts it over the top. I also have a 65IMPSS. I'm a somewhat tall person 6'3" and it fits me like a glove. My friends had 63's and 64's and because of the roof line I always had to make sure I didn't hit my head when I got into their cars.
Jim Powell speaking. Love the 65 impala. I bought one brand new in like September of 64 I believe. It was a baby blue color, 327/250. Black interior with bucket seats and a 4 speed. I loved the lines. The roof sweeping back and down behind the windows. And of course the tri taillights. The grill I also liked as it was not to busy. It sat very nicely. Really a great car. Not to mention you could work in the engine compartment easily.
OK, '63, '64, '61, '65, 62 of the '61 - '65, then we could go on listing since they were all great looking cars. Apparently the '65 was a record setting year for sales. Of the '66 to '70 I would say "69 (Caprice Custom Coupe or Sport Sedan) - '68, '67, '66 and '70. The '69 has to have the hide-away headlamps and fender-skirts, yes, fender-skirts. You have a gorgeous '65. Chevrolet sold a total of 2.3 million in '65 and Ford sold 2.1. Very close. Chevrolet = Impala and Ford = Mustang. '65 was a good year all around the sales yard. I had a chance to buy a 1965 SS, fully loaded including tilt, air and a 340hp 409 power everything. Had to have been a dealer demo. Damn...it took me too long to get the money and it sold while I was getting it together. The beige body and black top with white interior was a site. :( I had a '63 SS at the time and the best friend had a '64. Those were the days! Now it is to late and costly to get one. Damn auctions have ruined it for the small enthusiast.

I have a factory SS with a 327 in that aqua green . Now it is a 396 but really a 496 t-400 and as much as i love my 12 bolt , had a Dana 60 built for it. Now it's a sunset red tri stage paint over bronze with a soup spoon of multi color flake per quart. White inside with a console with a line lock on the shifter. Found it in a junk yard and saved another one.
What a great car you have. I had a 1966 impala 30 years ago. It looked just like yours with the fast back roof. It had a 283 with the power glide transmission, but it was not a super sport. I like the them both. It is hard to pick the better one. I had an advertisement from life magazine of a 1965 super sport framed and hanging in my room as a kid. I always wanted the super sport!
I learned to drive in a 65 Impala SS with a 283 engine with an automatic transmission (no third petal down there on the floor). Red with black interior - a wonderful driving experience.
Absolutely my favorite car by far, I’ve owned two 65 impala SS’s and one 65 Bel air and my father had a 65 Biscayne with a three on the tree, my love for the car came from a grade school teacher who had a 65 impala SS and I would go to the teachers parking lot during recess and admire the car and said one day I would own one ..
Best looking Chevy ever. Every angle is stunning. My dad owned a 65 Bel Air back in the day. In my teens, I owned a 63 and 64 Impala. Both 283 Sport Coupes. Loved them both but, the 65 was Chevy’s best looking Impala and that is something!! Life got in the way, preventing me from ever owning a 65. Thanks for posting this beautiful car.
Fell in love with the 65 during the time Eazy-E made the 64 super popular. I love the sleek body lines, the rounded tail lights and how looks fast even with standing still. I passed on getting one in my earlier days and have wanted every since. I had one, but traded it to my dad for is 383 which now sits in my second Impala, which is at the pro shop getting work done I just couldn't do myself.
It’s amazing that I ran across your video, I have all 3 impala’s you mentioned, 63’/65’ & 66’, all 3 are super sports and my 65’ does gets the most attention, mine are a bit custom to my own creations but it’s true, the 65’ holds the record to this day for the most sold impala
Really enjoyed this video friend, I had the exact same car when I was in high school. Only difference was mine had the 327. Mine was black on black, just a beautiful car. When you showed the interior, man did that bring back memories of being behind the wheel. Love the Cragars, always wanted to put a set on mine, but I sold the car before doing so, and bought a 79 Z28
I agree, the 65 and 66 Impalas are the best looking. The round taillights are the best. Same with the 68 Charger. Impalas are good size cars. Good for trips. You have a nice one there. Getting harder to find one that's not rusted out.

Dude, I got a 65 Impala SS 2 Door Hardtop from my brother Chris. He said that I needed a hotrod to keep me busy. I'm a Harley rider and I think I'm over my head with this car! I always loved the 65 and 66 models, and I really want to get this car put together and I'm starting from scratch. I have a 327 block and heads, and a 350 turbo transmission but I need an interior, I have all the seats just need a shifter console and so on... blah blah blah! LOL I'm probably going to get help from a few friends. I have a friend that has a beautiful 64 Impala, it's a lowrider but I want mine along the same lines as yours! Stock with the exception of the wheels. Anyway, if you have any advice for me you can contact me for pointers. Or not! LOL Anything helps! Thanks and enjoy that beautiful care of yours! I agree 100%. 65 was best year for both Impala SS and Ford Galaxy 500 XL. The XL is the SS for ford. I actually owned both in late 60’s and early 70’s. Loved both. My personal preference was the Galaxy 500XL by just a hair. Thanks for showcasing your SS. Loved the way you took your time showing and explaining that gorgeous 65 SS.
My dad bought a 65 Super Sport 327 engine and 4 Spd Transmision that I used to watch him swift,got me hooked forever on a car that I love ,what was a one of the most super underrated cars of all time that Set a record of sales of selling over a million cars in 65 that still holds the record today
The biggest improvement that came on the 1965 Impala was the chassis (frame) the use of a one piece drive shaft and the rear axle assembly HD GM 12 bolt !
1965 is one of my favorite year Impalas. My favorite being 1958. I remember riding the bus to school in 1989-1993 and seeing this white with turquoise interior (my favorite color interior!) '65 Impala with a 327 badge sitting along the road. Looked like a nice restorable car. Back then though, it was nothing but tri-fives for me, but I always admired that car. Would love to have it today. It's no longer there. Wonder what ever became of it. If I can add to my collection (my current collection consisting of one car - a 50% unrestored '58 Impala), I would want a '61 Impala 2 door hardtop, a '65 Impala 2 door hardtop, and maybe a '60 Impala 2 door hardtop.

My dad got me a 65 impala ss model kit when I was 11. It's been my dream car ever since. I currently have a 67 impala but still looking for an opportunity to grab a 65.

I remember my older sister and bro-in-law came driving in our driveway with a brand new Chevy. We all went out to see it. It was blue on blue and we asked, “what is it?” It’s the new Impala! Wow everybody said it was a 327 super sport and it was shiny and pretty as all get out. Glad to see them getting restored original once in a while. Good work!
My parents had a 66 4 door and I learned to drive on that car. I loved that car. Everything about it was a pleasure. I want to get an impala one day . I'll definitely look at the '65. Your SS is sweet.
Yes I agree I have a 65 Impala with the 396 in it. Not a SS though, it was my late Father and Mothers vehicle, I still have it in a shop been sitting there since 1974 , love your car very nice and clean.
I had a 65 SS impala black over Sherwood Green , black interior in High school. Kept it till it broke the bank. Now 23 years later I have another one that is in pieces. YOU have inspired me to giterdun. This on is a Convertible, with a 396 Muncie M-20 transplant from the 283 Glide. MAYBE this year it will roll again.
That thing is gorgeous. My parents owned a 65 Station Wagon when I was a kid. I really liked that car and she was damn fine looking even as a wagon. A beautiful silvery, blue color and I remember, lots of chrome.

when i was a kid my dad brought a 65 Impala SS Tahitian green, black convertible top. When he brought it home it was getting dark and i remember those back light's. It was futuristic! Great memories!

I must be old. I remember when you could buy a used 65 or 66 Impala for a couple hundred dollars. No more, that's for sure. You can't touch even a rusted out, 'back 40' find for less than 4 figures. Thank you SO much also for not going the route so many guys take nowadays by dropping the car way down and putting low profile tires on it. I love the way it looks in this video.
My Dad had a '65 Impala 4 door hardtop wirh the 283 and 3 speed manual. Two tone paint....crocus yellow with ermine white roof. He traded it in 1973 with 107,000 miles and layer wished that he had kept it. It had a bit of an interesting backstory. My Dad bought it used in May of 1966 with only 2,000 miles on it. The car was originally a showroom display car until the '66's came out. A salesman at the dealership bought the car for his wife, but it turned out that she did not like driving it because it had a manual transmission. So it did not get driven much and the salesman finally put an ad in the paper to sell it. My Dad saw that ad, went over to look at it and bought it.
I grew up with one in the family "stable". Had the 327 and auto. Took my driver's test in it. Spent many hours waxing and detailing, so I'm familiar with all the litte details. One thing you should point out too is that the gas filler cap is behind the rear license plate. So, no filler door on the bodywork. I didn't think much of it at the time, but in hindsight, it is something you no longer see on newer cars. Those chrome strips on the seats got HOT during the summer. We had the black interior too, so that didn't help. We were always puzzled about the manifold vacuum gauge (as kids). And the freaking clock NEVER kept time.
I loved the 65 supersport . ordered one as I liked, dark blue light blue interior, vinyl top. I should never got rid of it. I still dream about this car.
My dad drove a 65 Impala 2 door he bought from a secretary at a dealership. It had a 283 V8 white with baby blue interior. We loved it. My favorite is the 58.
This is one more sweet ride. Color is great on this body style car. 65 SS is one of the best years ever with the Impala. Such a change from the lengthy cars of the 58 through 64 era. I love all the Chevrolets from the era, but 65 is one of my faves. My brother had a 66 Chevelle SS in the color of your car and I had a 65 Impala SS in gold. We both had the Crager mags with white letter tires. Saturdays mornings were spent washing, waxing and cleaning our cars for Saturday night cruising.

I bought a 65 Impala SS off of a dealership lot in 1973 , Bright red , white leather interior , , It had the 396 , with a 400 turbo , changed intake and carburetor and went with a 750 Holley ( I kept the old Q-Jet in the garage along with that cast iron intake ) , also replaced the puny factory 2.63 rear gears with a 4.10 gear , Very fast . Stop light to stop light was a good time .my ex used to go pale when when this occurred .
I totally agree with everything you pointed out in your video....the tail lights are my favorite feature. I've kept mine stock except for a little accent bling under the hood and dual TransAm like exhaust chrome double chrome tips coming out of the sides. I was the 2nd owner...had it since 1966.....that's 58 years. Yikes! Been taking it to Hot August Nights in Reno for 34 years. Yu have to come out for that sometime....just let me know
Wow you have really kept it a long time, that’s great. I made a video of the sequential tail light install on my brothers 66 caprice you should watch it. It’s not identical, but close to the same installation.
My parents bought a brand new 65 SS Impala. It was the same color as this one except it was a 327 and had a black vinyl top. It was a real head-turner and at 17 years old, I loved taking it out on dates.
I agree, the 65 is the best looking Impala in my opinion too. It's a great looking car from the front back and side for sure and it looks fast, l love the roof line. I like the 59 and the 61 too but the 65 overall looks the best including the interior with the bucket seats. Nice car! Nice car and nice restoration.
I have a 66 SS but I always loved the 65 better just for the tail lights. Mine is a 396 car but one of the previous owners took it out and now it has a 350. I hope to locate a 396 someday. Your 65 is beautiful!!.
You are correct, it to is my favorite Impala. The SS were awesome with bucket seats and console with four speed. I loved the aqua green color with the white or beige interior. My other all time Chevy was the 1957 Belair. Both were and now are icons in the Collector world.

Nice car I don't think I've never seen a super sport. I went through about ten car's when I was 16 to 17. One of them was a 1965 chevy, no motor but the body had no rust. I put an engine that didn't fit right just a six cyl in it in my dads machine shed. I remember the motor had to slant to clear some thing underneath from hitting. I even drove it from Wi to Los angles calif, but 5 hrs from home, comin back. I found out later the cam gear spun on the press fit shaft and put it out of time. and later a head gasket the garage guy said that's why you could barley make it up a hill. I only mostly seen the 65's and 66's as family cars with bench seats. Your's is like something else. Wow, nice
