I sat down and chatted with the publisher from Chicken Scratch Books, Kiri Jorgensen, about how to know if your children's book is ready to send to a publisher and what will make a publisher reject a story. Listen to it here.
Kiri says:
* The main things she looks for when reviewing a submission:
1 - Is it targeted to the right reader audience?
2 - Does the story have a strong, consistent voice?
3 - Does the character feel authentic to the reader audience?
She says if you have a strong character with a strong voice, a publisher can do anything they need to with the plot to make it perfect with our editing process. But your character and your voice are what you need to bring to your publisher as a writer.
Kiri will also be speaking more in-depth about publishing during this year's Kidlit Indie Publishing Summit. Get your ticket to join here: www.kidlitindi...

Thanks. That is where I am stuck right now. I wrote a story but it is above young children but not a middle school type book. Good comments. Donna Valiga
