The only thing stupid is that simplified explanation. In addition to being rare and pretty, gold has many practical uses in electronics, aerospace, medicine, and dentistry. It also is the best form of money due to its durability, portability, divisibility, and fungibility.
@richielek
@richielek 5 лет назад
@@FiatBurner gold may be used for some special equipments, but not massively. there are other materials (ex : metal alloys, composite, stainless steel, etc) that are more cheaper and have greater characteristics (at least these materials are more than enough for products). gold may have good durability for money, but metal money is heavier, taking more place, paper money is way more flexible and card/e-money is even more flexible, after all, money is used for transaction purpose not for beauty purpose. what i'm trying to say is gold is a great metal but many materials can replace it, for me gold is just overpriced cmiiw.

+rachelle2227 Both are probably better investments too. Silver is easier to move for industrial uses and can be broken down into more manageable amounts for small or fine grained transactions. Platinum is worth more and tends to be more stable. The gold market is pretty emotion driven, flooded with people who invest for idealogical rather than economic reasons, which makes it kinda flakey.

To further elaborate on this video here are some fun facts. 1. Gold is an excellent conductor of electricity. Copper and silver both have a lower resistance and therefore conduct electricity better but they both tarnish so gold is the more reliable choice. But the most interesting thing about gold in my opinion is that multiple ancient civilizations that had absolutely no contact with each other used gold as a currency and before the discovery of electricity was useless. why you ask? 2. Some conspiracy theorists believe that our creators are aliens from space that have evolved to the point where they can no longer reproduce. So apparently they spliced their dna onto primates when they first visited earth long ago. They with their advanced technology had many uses for gold and they commissioned us to become a labor force in order to mine it for them in exchange for gifts such as, better brains brought on by all the dna splicing, fire, our first spoken language, and advanced mathematics. (whats weird is that ancient peoples grasp on mathematics was actually surprisingly good and the upper echelon in our hierarchy kept a lot of that information secret. look up the history of sacred geometry. pretty neat.) anyway they say that being taught that gold was highly valuable at the same time we first developed advanced cognitive reasoning kinda stuck with us through thousands of years. But the infinitely more likely and yet infinitely more boring theory is that before electricity gold really had no other uses other than being a currency. Other precious metals tarnish and corrode and therefore cant be stored for long periods of time. it is also rare, has a distinct color, and is rather malleable. making counterfeiting difficult in the ancient world. i personally prefer the former just because its more fun
@TheRTM

Actually they could reproduced they used their DNA and spliced it with primates for the sole purpose of creating a work force (slaves) to work, the mines and tend to their crops etc.

1 thing she said didnt make any sense.... if you made a statue of gold it wouldnt look the same in 1000 years, it wouldnt even look the same in 10 years... and the reason is quite simple to explain with science. you see gold is a precious metal that is very expensive and rare (as explained in this video) and even small amounts of it is worth thousands. left outside to the elements the gold will shrink or even lose large chunk over a small period of time because of natural carbon based life forms finding value in the shinny metal... i.e. niggas gonna to steal that shit... science bitches!!!!

Gold is valuable because of its metaphysical properties. Gold can help develop a person's abilities. How it was used also for wireless electricity distribution in early civilizations. Precious metals like silver and copper are used for disinfection and cure of bacterial diseases. These metals are not rare.. people are not stupid enough just to value something pretty. These earth elements can do more to humans aside from aesthetics purposes. And rich people knows the real use of gold that's why they invest and save gold. Thus, a real currency.

Imagine aliens that don't have the same concept of rarity=value coming to earth, they would think we were so primitive.

or they value another metal like copper and start stealing our wiring and pennies (even though they contain very little copper)
@rachelle2227
@rachelle2227 9 лет назад
I don't see how that would be possible. I think supply in demand isn't only a human thing, but would be a thing for any sentient alien. So long as another species is smart enough to build things and own things that aren't directly related to their basic needs, supply and demand would come into play, because everything is finite. This could be slightly different if an alien race could manufacture gold or any other material from any other base material (like water), but that may not even be possible, and definitely super advanced if it is.

+Bounsingonbongos1 This reminded me of a random conspiracy theory were some people believe modern humans were created by aliens that influenced the DNA of primitive man. Apparently they needed us to mine gold which had some sort of anti-ageing properties for them... ..... now that would make it rare and valuable.

+Bounsingonbongos1 you know I'm pretty sure that they would look at us like we look at birds. Some birds like to decorate their nest with various things, create dances or some other display which is fascinating to see. In the same way the aliens might just consider that using something shiny like gold is a part of our mating rituals rather than primitive in the same way that we see a bird find certain pebbles or debris as part of their aesthetics. I'm sure aliens got their own mating rituals don't you think maybe with tentacles?

hmmm sorry for the disappointment, but magnesium in water does nothing, perhaps you should have tried it before saying that! It is actually the alcali metals from the first row of the periodic table that reacts with water and explode, magnesium in is the second row. It will just deteriorate just like Iron produces rust in water. - A chemist

Wrong! Gold IS a store of value. It requires labor and resources to acquire, so in a sense gold is a manifestation of that work in a compact package. Many objects are valuable in this way, but it is the many physical properties of gold that make it useful as money. Now fiat currency.... that is something that only has value because we believe it.

Ok... thinking that gold came from a meteorite is only a "theory" it is not a fact. The fact that they mine gold deep in the earth and around volcanoes says a lot that the earth makes this precious metal itself.

It crazy cool metal and there reason it super valuable it NEVER rusts tarnish or corrode. You could leave a chuck gold sitting in the rain for billion year still going to be just as shiny a billion later. It use in electronics and other industrial applications. Its just useful stuff and more them just pretty to look at.

Yes, gold is pretty, but it's not as rare as they make us believe it is. Have you entered a small jewelery store in your hometown? We have at least 20 of these stores here in my town, and the amount of gold in each is huge. I remember a lady bringing an armfull of necklaces of all different sizes, and that was just one small part of what they have. I can't even imagine what they have in a big store in Dubai, for example. There are many conspiracy theories outthere around gold, and some of them are pretty good.
