Please find attached the live recording for Anaesthesia Coffee Break and Adrenaline Memories with myself and Dr Lahiru Amaratunge.
Discussion was based on the 2016A2 Question, Discuss the factors influencing the speed of onset of blockade, of a major peripheral nerve, with local anaesthetic.
Highlights are:
1) Answer should based on Fick's Law of Diffusion
2) Lipid solublity is related to Protein Binding
3) Lipid solubilty is also related to Potency
4) 10^(pH-pKa) / [1 + 10^(pH-pKa)] calculates the unionised fraction for bases
5) In order, nerve Types and their sensitivity to LAs should be B, C, A delta, A gamma, A beta, A alpha
