The Beatles had very different and varied approaches to their songs, while Oasis was a pretty straight-ahead guitar-heavy band. But Oasis was definitely influenced heavily by the Beatles, and they never denied it. Love both bands.

Oasis was always paying homage to The Beatles. They never made it a secret that they were massive Beatles fans. Oasis took the Beatles sound and developed their own take on it and made it completely their own. The Oasis music from more than 25 years ago still holds up and will be timeless in much the same way the Beatles music is. Some music, you just never grow tired of listening to. The Beatles and Oasis are perfect examples of that.

I have to myself that Oasis has always paid tribute to the Beatles, Oasis really saved the late 90's, Oasis brings the Beatles to our lives forever .. And that has been and always will be wonderful.

I literally just realised that I’m pretty sure Yesterday the film takes a dig at Oasis. As when the main character types in the Beatles they do not exist and then the same with Oasis. Suggesting that Oasis wouldn’t exist without the Beatles

I´m a Beatles fan and I love Oasis. Anyway, a lot of fans of The Beatles despised and some still despise Oasis because of that big lie of "Oasis is a copy of The Beatles" The excuse ? It´s always the same: the intro of Don´t Look Back In Anger. Oasis put in their melodies some "touches" of Lennon&McCartney melodies, but they always had their OWN SOUND. If somebody is going to listen to Oasis for the first time thinking he´ll listen to a "new version of The Beatles" he´ll get a big surprise when he listens to Definitely Maybe. I don´t understand why a lot of people put Oasis in an underrated place because they think "they copied or stole from The Beatles" when that´s not true. Those of us that belong to the Oasis generation, saw them live and bought their records, know very well it was not like that. Some tribute to The Beatles in some lyrics ? Maybe. Some arrangements ? Maybe. But Oasis WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE OASIS, they were not at all a copy of The Beatles.

They don't really sound like The Beatles. They sound like they WANT to sound like The Beatles.

I've only just discovered your channel and I have to say it's brilliant. I've been listening to both bands for the last 25 years I've noticed little similarities between them. But now I'll listen to them differently from now on. Keep up the good work.

One thing I missed in your explanation was the use of cadences. For example, for lack of a better term, I call it “sharpening the dominant chord”. For example, if a song is in C Major, a normal cadence would be F>G>C, but Beatles would sometimes go F>G#>C. Another example exists, which I’ll call “Majoring the Dominant-Parallel”. If the song is in C Major, the dominant parallel would be E Minor, but the Beatles would play it as E major. Eg C>E>F>G>C (all major). These cadences can be heart often in oasis music also.

A thing that makes them special is they have a "mirage" sound in some songs: 'gas panic' 'shock wave' 'let's all make believe'

To me, the most obvious influences of Oasis are: Stone Roses Beatles SLADE Sex Pistols Neil Young La's Stones T-Rex And then you can see things of great musicians here and there, from electronica, from soul music, from punk, folk or whatever they were listening in that moment but the core of their music is inspired, in my opinion, by these musicians and made in their very own way. The influence of the Beatles is huge but it's not the only one, I guess the image, the whole references in lyrics, the fact that they mentioned them all the time and a handful of songs very beatleesque (Up in the sky, whatever, don't look back in anger, roll with it...) did the rest to oversize the debts.

Great video, and something I've noticed looking back was how the 90s kinda brought back that classic sound, as opposed to the more "electronic" sound and reverb snares of the 80s. Also not a bad band to be influenced by at all!

Really great video ! I would like to see you do a video about some tricky, inventive chords progressions. I think Arctic Monkeys are really great at that (especially the last album where they get some jazzy vibes, for example : Golden Trunks, She Looks Like Fun, Anyways the b-side. Their older stuff as well where they get easier chords progressions but it's still inventive and surprising for example : Only Ones Who Know, No1 Party Anthem...) It'll be very interesting I think. Anyways, thank you for your videos it's always nice.

6:20 I disagree with this statement in direct reference to this exact example of Oasis and the Beatles. If your song has the same chords, melody and rhythm as a band you have learned to emulate it's pretty likely that either you knew you were stealing and didn't stop yourself, or you planned to steal from the beginning.

the book called "The Songwriting Secrets of The Beatles by Dominic Pedler" lists a few examples of musical influences on Oasis, and perhaps more interesting that just 'direct lifts'. For example: The opening lines on Hey Jude and Live Forever are the same intervals. The Triple Fourth root movement used in the harmony on Wonderwall is the same as a few songs of that time, not just The Beatles, but in particular used in Here Comes the Sun, and A Day In the Life. The book also makes the reference not to get too hung up on the direct piano riff lift on Dont Look Back On Anger from Golden Slumbers/Imagine, but that the vocal melody is similar to Manfred Mann's Pretty Flamingo.

The part of "these are crazy days but they make me shine" seems written being inspired by Lucy in the sky with diamonds, the video and general vibe of the song are yellow submarinish and the last lalalalala sang by Noel was clearly going for the la la la lalala form hey jude.

I was about to be mad about the stolen chord progressions from While My Guitar Gently Weeps but then I remembered that the Beatles had some stolen riffs, too. Hell, even George's most famous solo song (My Sweet Lord) is lowkey stolen. A wise man once said, "It's hard to be original when there's only 12 notes in the world."

Also the "nanana" at the end of "All around the world" might make you think about "Hey Jude". The album "Be here now" ends with an instrumental reprise of the song, the same way you can hear in "Sgt Peppers". The song just before the reprise is called "it's getting better (Man!)" possibly another reference to the lonely hearts club band (the song "Getting better") which I believe is Noel Gallagher's favorite album of all time. So there it is.

Oasis are heavily influenced by the Beatles, so naturally that is going to manifest itself in their music. I don't see it as plagiarizing or ripping off the Beatles. There are similarities in certain songs, but it's a subconscious thing on the part of the songwriter. He's simply expressing himself and creating his own thing based on the music that he was influenced by that came before him. Oasis has some Beatles in their songwriting DNA.

I think the song ‘Don’t look back in anger’ really stands out because of one chord: the E major chord in both verse and chorus. When I first heard the song, that’s what drew my attention immediately. It lends the song so much more depth and power than it would, it gone to an E minor or G major chord, and I don’t think any writer except Noel would have thought of that chord. Sorry, not an obvious Beatles comparison, but I thought an interesting point. It is also reminiscent of Pachelbels’ Canon.

I love Oasis so much, they are my favourite band. And the fact that they are linked to the Beatles so heavily makes them even better because the Beatles are one of my favourite bands as well and they are both so popular! The similaritie I recognised the most between the two bands is the guitar riff in The Hindu Times which sounds alot like the sitar in Within You Without You, both amazing songs!
