It did have Creative Technology sound blaster cards, USB thumb drive which were at the forefront of tech back in the mid to late 90s. But then the country started outsourcing all the technology work and using cheaper foreign workers to undercut the locals. Without those jobs and nurturing of the local tech industry talents, there will be no tech advancement.

Yes Singapore is expensive but like Germany, Switzerland or the US, we have to develop new technologies in aspiring sectors to add value to customers who want them. Important is the government tru its system of governance and public policies. Forward planning and putting resources. Training her workforce to handle high paying jobs. Helping companies grow and thus attracting more to invest here. China since Deng Xiaoping in 1978 has established a Civil Service Institute to study and teach China’s civil servants; to train and learn from S’pore’s civil service. A first.
