What Makes This Song Special - Episode 11 - David Gray - Babylon
I’ve always had a strange “superpower” that enables me to listen to a piece of music and be instantly transported in my mind back to the moment I was in when I first heard it. It’s so vivid that I can often remember what I was wearing, who I was with, other events from that week, or even what I could smell or taste while I was hearing that song for the first time.
Every week I plan to pick a song that’s been important to me and part of the soundtrack of my life so far. I’ll tell a little story about what specific event or time in my life the song makes me think about. I’ll then analyse it from a musician and vocal coach point of view, giving some time to examine techniques of the singers. Every week, there’ll be an accompanying “part 2” video which will be my chance to cover the song in question and put my own spin on it.
